Excellent review, you nailed it. I just got one yesterday and am very impressed by the sound quality at this price point. I was upgrading from a Pioneer Elite VSX07 that was over 20 years old. I bought a set of KEF LS50's last year and this amp totally opened them up and they are finally sounding like the speakers people rave about.

NAD has served me well since I bought my first preamp and amp back in the mid 80's from NAD. NAD's design philosophy has been a solid foundation for excellent products over the years. I have been skeptical about their venture into class D. However thanks to this excellent review I will be open minded and will consider trying it for my second system.

Great review Hans. I own a previous NAD amp the C390dd, its the best bit of equipment I've owned so far and I'm saving my pennies for an M32 that uses similar tech. In my opinion an amp should no longer be called 'integrated' unless it offers some streaming capability!

@@erikquinn707 Hi Eric I,m an audiophile for over 50 years and I'm not claiming that I and expert but the NAD C 388 is a great product plenty of power and as you mention you can upgrade the AMP. It is a forward- future proof Amp and I'm very happy with it. It controls my speakers very well(Dynaudio)that needs lots of power happy in all aspects. Besides that it is 90% efficient meaning your electric bill will be lower and if you upgrade to the module Bluo-OS 2I it is Roon ready . I use Roon software to manage my music library. Go for it and the online service is very good and helpful. Perhaps you know you can get the latest software for your amp by download it on your USB stick and use the USB connection on your amp to have the latest improved software for you amp. Soundwise I'm happy as it controls my speaker very well bass is tight and mids and highs are clear dead quiet background no noise whatsoever. Overall it's effortless and if you want to go further you can download a room correction software on your laptop that will screen the listening room that you can store for even further improvement of your listening environment which can make a huge difference. I hope it will make your decision a bit easier. Regards Roland.

@@erikquinn707 So far I download the software on my computer(NAD website)transfer to USB then connect to the USB connection on the AMP and follow the protocol that is explained in the NAD website. My guess when you buy a new unit you will get the updated version or ask your dealer anyway it is not difficult.

Thanks for the review and your thoughts. I like this amp and was considering purchase as it's now available at substantially discounted prices however time has moved on a little since your review. The bluOS is the older module and does not have DIRAC, the MDU slot cannot take the new module unfortunately. The hf bypass (if used) for use with sub is hard set at 150hz, which seems strange and basically useless (for me). If these things are not of concern then the amp is very good buying at current prices. Still not much competition around today at similar money that provides all the performance and functionality of the C368 in one unit. Cheers.

I bought the C368 in 2016 and listened to Apple Music and vinyl on it for a couple of years, liking it very much. Then recently I added the Bluos 2i and subscribed to Tidal. MQA is the answer I have been waiting for for decades: I’m amazed at the sound, which is infinitely better than CD (which I’ve never liked). And I was surprised to find that MQA not only preserves the advantages digital sound has over vinyl (yes there are some), it also adds the wonderful analogue warmth and clarity of vinyl. I hope MQA becomes mainstream and the Tidal HiRes subscription cost comes down!

Been thinking about changing my streamer (Squeezebox Touch) for a Node 2i for a while now, and I've also wanted to change my old amp (DSP-A970 but used in 2ch only) but have been unsure what to replace that with. SO, when I discovered I can get a BluOS 2i MDC inside this C368..... well it arrives tomorrow! Hope it lives up to expectation but if it's well recieved by yourself I'm sure I'm going to love it! If I connect a CD player to this amp (with BluOS module fitted) via a digital connection, and play an MQA CD, will the amp's DAC decode the MQA? Or is the MQA decoding only for what is connected directly to the BluOS module (i.e. Streaming via the Ethernet port)?

OK. I own the c368 since a year. I love it as much. It sounds good. And the BluOs 2i MCD is working great. I will clearly recommend. But. You what should know. If you come once day to the conclusion to upgrade the c368 with a C268 in Bridgemode, you've to connect via Sub-Out und you will lose the ability to use your sub12f (for example). Even you can't just use the new Eigentakt C298 with C368 or fE just e tube amplifier. There is no real Line-out It's my mistake. All title bit. I did not thought about before. So this thing is wonderful, but it won't stay for a long time here.

It's my very first time watching Hans do his thing. I don't pretend to understand even half of what he is saying but he breaks down his analysis in a way that I can learn from him bit bye bit. I'm just in the phase of learning about HiFi Reference Audio. I hope that my knowledge gets me the most sound quality for the money. If I could ask you a question Hans. I really like the sound of Triangle speakers. First choice is the Signature Delta 2nd the Theta on stands. Will the Nad C368 and C388 be a good match? I have not tested the APTX mode since I play uncompressed music. But in general APTX is switched on automatically when such a signal is received.

The NAD C399 has just come out and while it is more expensive I am debating between it and the C 368. I plan to pair it with the Wharfedale Linton speakers. Do you yet have an opinion on the C 399 and whether it is a worthy upgrade for the C368 in terms of sound quality?

But do i need it or can the cheaper 130W or 150W models Dave me money and still drive well, say, a Monitor Audio Silver 300 80 - 200W Silver 500 (250W) floorstanding speakers ? Also if we wanted extra power for more powerful speakers, we connect a power amp to the Pre Out / Sub out and enable the bridge mode switch ? Is that correct ? My Idea originally was a NAS (Synology) with a DAC attached and then the DAC connected to an amp. So I'll be able to access every media on the NAS with the phone and play it on the amp. without having the media on my limited phone storage

Yes you can. You simply point the BluOS player to the share on your NAS that holds the music and it will index it but leave the music files on your NAS. You need to use a smartphone or tablet as a remote control for selecting the music but it will not hold the music. Again, the music remains at your NAS. The BluOS player in the C368 will store a database with titels of your music for fast access and the tablet/smartphone will read that database, display it and let you choose. When you choose a track or an album the tablet/smartphone will report that back to the BluOS player that will get the appropriate music file(s) from your NAS and play them.

Als je Spotify wilt blijven gebruiken is er geen voordeel. BluOS maakt het mogelijk andere streamingdiensten te gebruiken, met name Tidal en Qobuz leveren een hogere geluidskwaliteit. Daarnaast kun ej muziek vanaf een computer of NAS weergeven.

Ik heb een tijdje het prijzige Qobuz gebruikt en las ook dat Tidal zich anders in de markt gaat zetten en zich wil onderscheiden van andere streamingdiensten door hogere kwaliteit aan te bieden. Dit zijn dus beide streamingdiensten die gebruik maken van BluOS, begrijp ik uit jou woorden. Mijn ervaring met BluOS is slecht ik heb de NAD T758v3 versterker met een losse BluOS module, deze valt telkens uit en ik krijg dit niet opgelost. Ik lees erg veel dit soort klachten. Daarnaast vind ik de app van BluOS niet gebruikersvriendelijk, loopt ook vaak vast en herkend de versterker niet.

This is the decades of the *active speaker w/DSP* - I know that doesn't fit into NAD's strategy (and PSB needs to lift their game in this respect too) but I'd be willing to bet that >60% of your subscribers rely predominately on desktop systems. I do video's about true hifi - or whatever you want to name it - and not about plastic boxes that use heavy DSP to make 'impressive' sounds. De sales of active speakers in this segment still is rather low. I probably never will review KEF speakers since I am fully banned after not willing to write what they want.

@@erikquinn707 im enjoying my C388 with the UF5 Elac towers. Its my second system and when I set it up in my big listening room that combo was exciting. The only way I can describe the sound stage was it was spacious and holographic, really fun listening experience. I think its a bit much for the room I moved it to but too much is usually just enough! Plenty of power to push those 4ohm towers and no need for a sub with just a added notch of bass.

im also using it a streamer by pulling down from amazon by way of an ethernet cable and controlling it with my phone. Ive tried the bluetooth but it doesn't have the quality. There is little to none background noise which is a big plus for me. I did have one update after I purchased it and the app handled it with no need for a USB stick. Good luck and enjoy the journey!
