Just a reminder about getting a higher item that you dont need vs a lower item you did get that is bis, the item type wont change when its 8/8 upgrades. I know some people were confused about that. Yes it'll be cheaper to get 8/8 on the item when a higher one drops you dont need but just keep in mind it wont go up a tier when you cap it.

One thing to keep in mind though, using your belt example, if you get a BiS Adventurer Belt it can only be upgraded to 411. If you later get a non-BiS Veteran belt that can be upgraded to 424, no matter what you still will have to re-farm the actual BiS belt now as Veteran. This would also apply to Veteran (411) to Champion Gear (437). I could be looking at this the wrong way, but this seems very grindy assuming I already got the BiS Adventurer Belt, but cant max it.

It's actually less grindy if you think of it this way. You get best in slot belt on adventure track and you max it out at 411 with crests and tokens now if you get a non-best in slot belt next week on the veteran track it can be upgraded to 424 which will replace the bis 411 but any other belt you get from here on out will only need flighrstones to get it from whatever level to 424

I know people who last season ran the same mythic plus dungeons over a hundred times trying to get one specific piece of gear to drop for their best in slot and it never did at least this way you have four variations of your best in slot that are required through different methods

I gotta say, this was VERY nice of em' to do, like say you get a chest and it's champion. Now, you get a champion chest again, but with better stuff on it, BUT you upgraded the first chest with all your mats. HOWEVER, you can just flat out only use stones to rank up tht better chest with avoidance or w/e on it. WE'VE NEVER seen tht before! this is big.

On paper, it is better than previous upgrade systems but in reality, it is just unnecessarily complicated and convoluted and results in choice paralysis for the general player base.

Great video, nice breakdown. Not enthused by the new system personally. The only reason they did gear replacement for each tier was for time wasting/grind to get items with relevant stats. They could have let us keep the same gear like with valor, but just make the upgrades for each tier require the higher lvl crests.

7 weeks into the patch you can upgrade 16 pieces of gear to whatever your max is basically. Since every 2 weeks you can fully upgrade 5 pieces. Sooner if certain crests don't count towards your max.

Do M 9+ for champ gear. It is the lowest level that champ gear starts dropping. Odd levels are the ivl changes, so do odd keys. It will take weeks to gear for 17+ for heroic. Chill on 9-11 keys. I'm 431 in 2 weeks with 3 pieces of heroic tier. I'm a new player, and picked my own strat, and it worked. I DID NOT KNOW when you upgrade your trinket slots, other tirnkets only cost flightstones, etc.., TY!

m+ 0-8: Veteran gear m+ 9-16: Champion gear m+ 17-20: Hero gear (not including the vault rewards) To simply answer your question, Champion 1/8 gear is what you would get.

Maybe, but the barrier to entry to newer players will be the lowest it has ever been. New dungeon pool and easy affixes. Don't be afraid to make your own groups, but do it early in the season so you can keep up points wise.

Don't worry about it. For 99.9% of players just upgrade items that you will use and don't worry about anything. The possible worst thing that can happen is that maybe there will be an item that you could have upgraded on Sunday if you optimized you will upgrade it on Tuesday which is like who cares.

Let’s see. Very early days you would get a token and it might be for your spec, but might not so your BIS was from random blues. The your tier tokens would drop and you had to enchant and socket it, hoping it didn’t overlap with another piece of gear that gave you a better stat like ARP and if it did you didn’t use it. Then it would drop and of course you had to sim it to see what stats you had to reforge of course changing all of your gems out to meet your caps. Then you would get your tier piece and hope you didn’t already have a titan forged item in that slot because you would need to farm a different item. So no I don’t remember that

If they had 1 currency, dropping from everywhere, balancing the drop amounts of it would be impossible. Unless you would preffer farming for 4 days straight worldquests and rares to upgrade your heroic ilvl gear. That doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? There had to be different currencies with different drop tables otherwise it would be a total clusterfuck. Just imagine rares/wqs right now dropping valor. Would that make sense early on in the tier?And even if it did, how much valor should you get from every activity so you don't instantly upgrade everything in matter of days and suddenly gain 15 overall ilvls or on the other hand take days to upgrade a single item. It's not something that could ever work with a single currency. They wanted to make casual players, who are not constantly doing keys/raids have a bit more gear to help them out in world content but also enough gear to encourage them to jump into raid/m+ and in my opinion, they found that way. So before calling a system silly, I would advise you to just think about it a bit.

Like in the old days what did we have, honor, valor, and I am sure there was something else. It was simple. Higher ranked stuff just cost way more so it worked. You then decided what you wanted. Keep timewalking stuff separate, that's fine. I still standby this is a silly system and I have thought about it long before I posted this comment. I have no doubt in my mind it could be much simpler and having it like I said has worked in the past. It's the reason they capped it in the past too so that you couldn't do what you are suggesting and get too much ilvl at once. It worked before and it was much easier to understand.

heroic crests can be farmed from 11-15 and the next crests from 16-xx. So if you no raiding, do about 12-14 +11 and after that just push to 17 to farm gear ( 17+ and up is upgradeable to 441, highest for m+)

You can run 11-15 if you get the chance later, but if you can run 20s you will want that for vault and for the end of dungeon gear drops. You can always downgrade aspect crests to wyrm to catch stuff up.

Oh Naguura! I love how you're casually throwing around 441 and 420 as theoretical item levels as if that's what everyone has. Some of us are still trying to crawl out of the under-400 range. Also, everyone is talking about how great this new system is but I think it's needlessly stressful. I get a drop at 403 that is better than my existing 390 but the 390 is at 1/8 and can go as high as 417 while the 403 is at 6/8 and can only be upgraded to 409. Do I upgrade the one I have and use up the few crests I have, put it in the bank and use the new one until I have more crests, wait a few days to see if a 405+ drops, pour my energy into getting into a raid group to try for a 420... And what if I spend a crest and then immediately get a better item drop in that slot??????? I have bags full of gear again trying to figure out what to do and as a result I'm not upgrading ANYTHING because I'm worried I'll make a bad decision. This seems a lot like gambling to me, and I don't play WOW to do math.

Generally you want to do your upgrading at reset each week after you open your vault. This has always been the case. In the meantime you want to equip the highest ilvl gear because for the last season that has been the better determinant of value than something being "bis" but lower stats, fundamentally meaning it's not bis. But also if you get an item that's adventurer 1 and then get a drop for the same slot that's adventurer 6, then you have two items that are adventurer 6 because you can upgrade the lvl 1 to lvl 6 using flightstones alone. If you're struggling to get out of the 400s, then your immediate crest concern is just whelpling, which you will spend on whatever the highest piece of gear you have is after you open your vault. It's not so difficult.

You will never get an item drop that is 6/8, those are only upgraded items. Instead you would get a 2/8 from the next higher track instead. You can check out my other video where I explain the system so you understand it better and might not be so stressed! Because the decisions u make are a lot less important than Valor Points used to be, so just upgrade your items and don't worry about it that much

because you get free ones. she explained this. you can't go past 150 fragments collected but there are ways to get more, but those methods are limited in some way. the other one is below drake and not really that useful except to catch up so they hand it out in Loamm when you first show up. and you get at least two free drake crests.

Blizzards always working to make us hold on to and use items we don't need or want just to get upgrades. I also don't think you can upgrade an adventurer item beyond that unless I'm missing something in their 12 step program to get the loot I want at the highest level. Well it does not work for me. I have the Onyx annulet 424 ring and an upgrade to an other ring slotted in eigther slot 1 or 2 i have to pay 366 flightstones and 4 drake shadowflame crests. Other people told me the same that you can upgrade...but that's not true.

As I said in the video, you need 2 rings to unlock the free upgrades You would need 2x 424 rings to upgrade another one for "free" (same with trinkets)

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding here, but at 1:20 she wasn't referring to fragments, she says "crests are a limited resource and you can only have 10 of each that you can farm". I've used 2 Drake crests and still have 9. I've also now got a stack of 12 Welpling crests.

U can farm maximum of 150 fragments of specific crest per week, which then converts into 10 crests but u can also get crests from other sources like weekly quests etc and that doesnt count towards the fragments cap.

The fact that they are overlaping each other only makes it more confusing for absolutely no useful reason, excellent video as i will always need to check this chart to see what i have to do because its so messed up i my brain denies to memory it + that vendor in Loamm with the crests has them in the opposite way and i have no idea why, it's like the entire system is build to confuse the player on purpose.

Typical Blizzard System. Every Gearing System that involves you not immediately wanting to upgrade gear that you have on the chance that you might drop better gear is simply awful. We had that multiple times already, it was always despised.

yeah this sucks, already did like 20 mythic +16, already have the 10 wyrm crest cap, already have couple aspect crests, and didn't upgraded any item because the "play" is to hold everything until you get 431 gear on +20 somehow, otherwise you are wasting 1 wyrm crest everytime you upgrade one item, this is so shit because you think "this is so min-maxing, why i will hold this to save me couple wyrm crests, i can get upgrades now", but even if you think that, you will not feel good knowing that you are wasting 1 extra crest per item compared to people that are able to do +20 dungeons with last patch gear (currently, only the best players on raider io are timing 19-20)

4 ilvl ranges (lfr, normal heoric and mythic) and one stone each for them to upgrade stuff can farm 10 stones each per week (plus some extra from special sources sometimes) you dont need limited stones to upgrade pieces below the highest ilvl of what you own for a certain slot

This new upgrade system is worse than the way it was before. I used to be able to get a piece of gear that I could level up from rank 1 to rank 13. Now I have to get a new piece of gear to upgrade it more. And having multiple currencies is stupid too. I have tons of whelpling, drake and wrym crests I will never use again. If they were account bound that would be so much better. Blizz really screwed this upgrade system.

It's not confusing. It's only new. Don't complain about learning something that will vastly improve the overall quality of life for wow players. The Valor grind was beyond tedious to the point it made you want to quit the game. Naguura, your waterfall chart was amazing on how it showed the upgrade process. Could you make one that shows the cost associated with up upgrade as well? I think that would help tremendously. Thanks for the great content.
