I work in medical microbiology where we see Pseudomonas aeruginosa on a regular basis - in fact I had a lovely blue plate of it today cultured from a urinary infection. Although it's a normal part of the skin flora, it can cause opportunistic infections of the lungs, urinary tract and even sepsis, especially in immunocompromised individuals. It can grow in air or in the absence of air, which is why it thrives in pockets between the nail plate and nail enhancements that trap and hold moisture. Two fun facts: the blue/green colour is caused by pyocyanin generated by the bacterium and a pure, young culture smells pleasantly floral, like old fashioned soap. But beyond that, moist, airless places are also places that have the potential to grow some very nasty bacteria indeed - take Suzie's excellent advice and eliminate them.

AM, I worked as RN in leg ulcer/compression management. Pseudomonas was very difficult to deal with under 5 layers of bandages. Antibiotics didn’t work, as exposure was better, which could easily be achieved. Stop compression, advance the ulcers. Keep the compression, advance the pseudomonas. We would increase bandage/dressing changes, which also delays healing. Best to try avoiding with scrutinizing each visit, cleansing and drying as much as possible. Best wishes from Devon UK

These videos are fantastic ❤ back in the day when I became a nail technician there was no you tube to learn from. I had to go to as many salons that would allow me to come in and shadow as possible. Shadowing is when you stand behind them all day watching everything they do in order to learn new techniques. It took me years to become a good nail tech. I am so happy that Suzi is doing this now to help other people learn faster. The industry has become very competitive.

I told my mom in jr high that I wanted to be a nail tech. She replied very unpleasantly and said she’d take me out of school then and I could take care of my baby brothers (10yr age difference) until I could go to beauty school. Needless to say I just pushed that aside. Now with YT and all these great teachers I’m learning to do them on myself! I love it!

Just for anyone else’s info. I’ve had the greenies twice from press ons due to my negligence in letting water and stuff get under. But what I did was take everything off and file down as much as could be safely done and I bought a breathable polish. The breathable polish allows the spot to be exposed to air and not spread the bacteria and also I wasn’t walking around with green spots on my nail.
@hannathehumblebard101
@hannathehumblebard101 2 жыл бұрын
Press-ons are the worst honestly. Most are too curved to fit properly and the glue bubbles easily, leaving big air gaps. This is what happened to me too, and a big part of what made me go buy a beginner kit and basic efile. The press-ons with the tacky tabs I don't mind cos they're only for a short time.
@Jiminie53421
@Jiminie53421 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, press ons are hard 😓 The good and bad thing about glue is that it comes off easier than gel or acrylic. It’s good because removal can be much easier depending on how you apply it but then the bad thing is that it also lifts 😫 That’s why I tend to use gel if the press ons are translucent/transparent or I use acrylic if they are opaque since I’m just more confident that I won’t get any air bubbles or lifting that way!

I also learned how to do nails from Suzie's videos! It was about 5 years ago when I decided to do gel and acrylic nails on myself to save me some money. I had no idea how to do it or what I needed to buy, so I started a search on youtube to find out all the answers. I watched a whole bunch of videos from other nail technicians and they just made me more confused than I already was. Then I found this passionate and professional nail tech, who was able to answer every single question that I had. It seemed like she was reading my mind! I have been watching NCE videos from then on and never stopped doing gel acrylic nails on myself. So many people tell me it looks like my nails are done by a professional, without realizing that I'm the one doing all the work in my living room while watching movies on tv to keep me entertained for a good 3 hours. This is all thanks to Suzie! I'm so proud of my nails because of her! Thank you ever so much for all the knowledge you have provided me over these few years. By the way, I never had any greenies on my nails, so I guess Suzie does a pretty good job teaching this amazing skill.

During the pandemic we did a deep cleaning of everything at work. My hands were in water a lot and banged up my nails. I had on a polygel set of extensions. I developed a greenie on 1 finger on my dominant hand from what I assume was a lifting from banging, water and the dirt I was scrubbing. It was a light green-ish color when I found it. It took 1-2 wks to clear up. And, I also learned a lot about nails from watching Suzie and have really enjoyed using her nail products.

This video is so relatable! I too began doing my nails as a result of covid. Been doing them for 2 years and had the greenies once. The acrylic I had used was dark, so I couldn't see that my nail was affected. I was just going to do a fill in, but my discovery of the green middle finger caused me to remove all the nails because I was paranoid that maybe it had happened on another finger as well. And I was right! My thumb also got some greenies :( Thankfully, greenies aren't contagious and easily fixable. It just looks a little gross but it will eventually grow out !

Nails cannot mold. Mold is a fungus; you can get a fungal infection on the nail, but mold cannot grow on the human body. Living people cannot mold. The only way a human can mold is if they are dead. As Suzie said, the green stuff you can see on a nail is not mold but a bacterial infection. I know you know this now from watching her video. I just wanted to clarify just in case there are others who don't know. I've seen so many people say it's mold right away when they see a greenie, but they don't even seem to know that a living human can't mold 😕 People need to get more educated about this sort of thing!

Greenies come from what I call “microlifts”. These are tiny insinuations between the nail plate and the nail plate and the enhancement. The nail seems to be fine but it isn’t. I have only experience greenies with dip powder. I have had “macrolifts” where you can physically see the enhancement lifting up. I have found that this is actually a better scenario because in that case if water is getting in, at least you can slip a paper towel near the nail plate underneath the enhancement and dry it out and actually prevent the greenie until you can take care of the nail. I don’t even bother with dip anymore. Gel is better if you are in a profession where your hands are wet. And the best way I have found to prevent lifting and to get the nails to last is with builder gel applying in thin layers.

A few years ago I hurt my nails and because I had gel and color I didn't realize that my natural nails got badly hurt. This actually came to light only about 2 weeks later when I removed the product (which didn't lift) and saw blood under the 4 nails...😭 within a few days greenies showed up and it started to burn. It eas painful because my nails started to lift (natural nails, mind you) but the infection kept spreading to the the healthy new tissue. So I decided to dip my nails into white vinegar and I did this for 10 minutes 2 times a day for 3 days and the infection was gone.

Thankfully, I caught mine early. I looked up the home remedies if you take a Q-tip and put a little bit of bleach on your finger and leave it for 10 seconds, and then scrub it off do that once or twice a day until it goes away Listerine helps a lot, same thing method as the bleach you can make a garlic salt, onion powder, vinegar, soak for your hand and leave it in there when it’s hot and then once it cools down, reheat it and do the other hand if you need to and that helps to get rid of it

I found out the hard way about greenies and inhaling fine particles from filing and now i always wear a mask after i got a mild upper respitory infection from inhaling the poly gel particles I cannot emphazise enough how important wearing a mask is to protect your lungs as well as making sure your nails are prepped correctly

Caught the greenies by wearing press-ons to try and grow my nails, since if I didn't have anything on my nails, I'd bite them off quite a lot. Caught them quite a few times which made me stop even trying for a long time (I don't have money to get gel nails professionally done and to maintain them). Rn thankfully I'm being able to grow them through self control, but I'd like learning how to properly put that gel protective layer on top of them. Just found your channel, might be a life changer, we'll see

Hi Suzie! I'm a beginner and I love that you share your knowledge in your videos. I have two questions, not removing the product from the nail can cause the greenies? how often is it necessary to remove all the product from the nail and replace it with new one?

Fun fact, the “lip” growing on the nail is actually the cuticle, while the skin we push back is the eponychium.

When I was in the Marine Corps I used to get acrylic, I didn't get the greenies but would get dirt trapped between my natural nail tip and the fake nail. I eventually switched to a new place and gel and didn't have that problem again.

I watch your videos all the time and have learned soooo much. But for some reason I can't keep myself from getting the "greenies"! What to do? I have done gel and just started acrylics and can get them on very well. Watching you doing the counting has really helped making the right bead!

I did a Pharmacy Tech course and we were of course taught how to properly clean your hands. The teacher used a UV light to check all our hands afterwards. One of the students had acrylic tips and we all gagged at her nails.

Oh my God lol. I'm a nut about making sure soap gets under the nail, especially with longer sets! Now I wanna take a germ light to my nails loool. I just bought a nail scrubber brush to take with me too, it never occurred to get one til the other day 😵
@duchessnyx

This is a disappointing attitude to see. Mine are cleaner underneath when I have acrylics that are longer vs nothing and shorter, because I'm not getting so many substances smashed into the fingertip where it becomes impacted. All nails simply need cleaned well, and the underside should be maintained as much as the rest, regardless of length or type.

I got the greenies for the first time a few months ago when I did press on nails. It’s wasn’t as bad as the pics because I caught it in time. But never again. I’m scared to use press on nails again.

Susie has inspired a lot of us to do our own nails. I watched every video 3 to 4 times over. I started about 8 months ago but always had beautiful long natural nails so almond was very easy for me to shape and I cheated using my own nails as forms and did an overlay type service on them however, I am a smoker and the reason for starting nails was to build up my pointer and index so I could file off the staining. I also came across some stain resistant top coat which has made a world of difference. My struggles now are that I love the coffin/ballerina shape but am having a rough go at the dominant hand with my non dominant one. I’ve even tried the lazy girl method which proved to be a lot of extra work because of adding way too much product and apparently I have giant thumb and index finger beds so the plastic tips weren’t large enough for those fingers but I’m getting there none the less and as with anything, practice will work it’s magic and with time it will get better. Thank you Susie and cameraman for all your hard work to help us all out. Sending love from the states and of course we’ll wishes to you both and your furry kids too. ❤️❤️💅🐈🐈‍⬛😻
