Very helpful!!! Kept rewinding & practicing each step as you talked! I wrote down the sandwich configuration in the notes section of my manual! That die cut is so beautiful that I just had to order it & make some for my cards! Thank you for sharing! I am no longer intimidated while trying to foil die cuts & foil waste! FABULOUS tutorial. I live in Devon UK and waiting for my Gemini hot foil machine which should arrive any day now from Crafters Companion. I have been viewing all your tutorials and I am so excited. Loads of hot foil dies to buy, but my birthday is coming up so keeping fingers crossed my family will be generous!!! Great to know you can use general dies too! Yes, the hot foil brands are: Gemini FoilPress Paper craft foil, Spellbinders HotFoil, Couture Creations Go Press & Foil. Other foils will not work.

Thank you. Foiling the waste and using the back side of some dies are great instructions. As for foiling a die cut, some people might ask - wouldn't it be easier to just cut the die with mirror card? I guess if you didn't have any or had already cut the die, it would be good know that you could still do it. Also, I guess it would be cheaper to have several colors of foil than several packs of different colored mirror card.

Nancy....I have been following your instructions on the foil press, which are so so very easy to understand and thank you for explaining the sandwich...but my regular die keeps cutting thru my cardstock when I am just trying to foil....any ideas? I am using the large gemini and adapter plate...

Don't use the metal or hard plate under the die. Use the magnetic shim so it doesn't cut through

If you put the die cut side face down, does it not cut the foil plate? I got it cut the die then foil the cutout die

Regina M Dziak yes, never do face down with regular dies. Unless you have a metal plate under it.

When foiling your die cuts do you have to use the Crafter's Companion foil? Crafter's, says we have to use their foil, is that true???

Hi Gail, CC has been very strict with their rules, only use their dies in their machine and their foil. I have tried all dies and Hot foils and they work well except you have to turn the heat up to medium. ToDo foil, Spellbinders glimmer foil and couture creations foil all work. The only dies you don't want to use are the ToDo dies because they are too thick.

I bought the hot foil by mistake so I bought the go press and foil but I can’t believe how much the foiling dies cost! I recently bought a mini Minc too. I’m on a fixed income and really couldn’t afford those machines but now I really can’t afford the dies. Is there any way to get some that are cheaper? Or even other ways to foil without dies!

I used a stamp and cut die, as I put it through the Gemini ( the big one) it did sound as though it was cracking, is this normal? I used the adaptor plate by the way

Use the thin metal shim that came with your Gemini so it doesn't cut into the adapter plate.

Another quick question. Are there any videos using the Gemini foilPress as a traditional letterpress? So no foil, but getting that impression of letterpress. Maybe inking up a die cut and then letterpress it using the Gemini foilPress. Does that make sense? I wanna know the sandwich to do that. Or maybe you could try it and show us? I see Jennifer McGuire did it using the Platinum 6 die cut machine. I wanna do it using the Gemini.

I haven't tried the Glimmer Foil Press machine, but I do like the Gemini Foil Press so far. To me, it is easier then the Couture Creations Go Press and Foil machine. It all depends on what kind of die cutting machine you own.

does anyone know if using this foil press with magnesium die cut/embossing plates? they are roughly the same thickness as the silver plastic Christmas tree plate the OP showed us in this video, but I work with metal, and can make any design on magnesium using an acid wash. any help would be much appreciated. would love to get one of these machines soon if it does use mag plates.

You can use other hot foil stamps from any company but not from ToDo. They are too thick.

@Elin Stengrímssen the Spellbinder Glimmer machine can be used with most die cutting machines. It will work with all other hot foil plates. It will not fit in the Gemini or Gemini Jr. You must use the Gemini Foilpress in the Gemini machines.
