I also love Hailee Steinfeld in this. I think she's hilarious. Her and Renner work great together. I think their styles compliment each other well. I very much hope to see her in future marvel stuff. I would like to see her character take on the hawkeye position in the MCU [not necessarily the name, if they have something better to go with] with Clint as a mentor giving her advice and maybe intel from time to time. Jacques is Clint’s inside man. They are pretending to not know each other. Kate’s mom is definitely the villain and is working for Kingpin. I knew she was working for Kingpin immediately like first scene of the scene episode bc in Marvel, Kingpin is the guy you go to when you don’t wanna sell your house. Then she goes from basically poor to filthy rich. She was threatening Clint’s family when she asked about them, that was a subtle threat for sure.

Another possible theory: "Uncle" is Kate's father, who faked his death for life insurance money to save the penthouse (remember, Maya's dad was also having money issues, despite being leader of the Tracksuits). He said he was going to protect her, and has done so from afar - that's why the Tracksuits would be in trouble if they went after Kate. Jack is undercover and putting on this unidentifiable accent (note the aphorisms conversation) to deceive Eleanor, who is still working with her supposedly-dead husband. I think Kingpin will take over the Tracksuits in a post-credit scene once Maya switches sides and moves on.

Fun fact that I don't think anyone else has really mentioned: Kate's dad is played by Brian d'Arcy James... The same guy who played Shrek in Shrek the Musical. But for actual theories, I'd say Kate's dad is still alive and, under the surface, a mob war is forming - mostly between the Maggia and Kingpin. The Tracksuits are under "Uncle" who is almost certainly Kingpin and - in the comics - Madam Masque is with the Maggia. If Kate's dad is a leader of the Maggia family (since he'd have a massive penthouse next to Grand Central), that'd make him either Tombstone or Hammerhead. Jack probably is aligned with Kingpin and the whole engagement is probably Elenor's (but mostly Kate's dad's) idea to weaken Kingpin's hold on Manhattan. Which will snowball next episode and be a major plot point for most of these other series. Thematically, it'd make sense and it'd add an extra layer of salt to Hawkeye's wounds. All of his vigilante huntings only lead to worse mobsters. This leads to Hawkeye basically being the "Nick Fury" of the Marvel Knights. And just as a minor guess - I'd say that the watch belongs to Jessica Drew, Spider-Woman, just because it's her colors and she needs to make an appearance sooner or later for either Knights or Secret Invasion.

Episode 5 ends with Kate's Mom meeting up with Fisk, it'll be the bug cliffhanger before the finale. She dones a mask and goes by the codename Madame Mask when with Fisk, who goes by Kingpin along with a group of other masked villains, maybe JLD is there as just herself because she feels untouchable.

Hey Nando, I like the video and theories! one quick thing- I don't think people recognize Clint as Ronan due to Endgame because he wasn't wearing the "cloak" or whatever you call it, that has the hood attached. He had some kind of combat uniform on, but it seemed (to me) pretty similar to his other uniforms from previous films, like in Avengers 1 & 2/Civil War. I think its the Hooded Cloak and Mask that he was trying to get back, not the battle uniform or whatever its called.

The biggest thing that hit me about this series is that this is closer to what Black Widow should have been. Street level / real injuries/ murder mystery / infiltration / trick gadgets/ hidden bad guy / a bad past resurfacing. I even think Natasha having a period of mentoring Yelena on things she learnt since being freed free from the Red room and being part if society would have been interesting. Certainly none of the bombastic nonsense that was in the film. Maybe even doing it as a series would have been better to develop the relationships and characters of her family and to develop an actual personality on taskmaster would have been cool.

We have met two other members of Jack's family (although one of them was a child with a throwaway line), neither of which had an accent at all similar to his. I'm not going to suggest that it means anything more than a joke, but the idea that Jack's accent is fake makes sense: it doesn't have to be an important moment, but it connects to the comic book character and it's an easy joke or added depth depending on how they play it.

Actually wait, this also provides a really great ending thematically. Kate finds herself functionally without a family, but has been helped Clint so much with connecting with and protecting his family that she becomes a de facto Barton and spends Christmas with them. BUT ALSO: Kate *does* have one more member of her family that we’ve given some attention: her aunt. Kate could easily head out west to connect with her aunt, and maybe perhaps potentially make some West Coast friends if you catch my drift..! (Perhaps Ant-Man, whom they tried very hard to get an appearance from and also keep referring to!)

I think you’re bang on man. It’s going to be a little underwhelming but solid and with a nice reveal at the end like king pin or daredevil or she hulk. I think the echo story won’t really go anywhere because there’s a series coming. But I’m liking the series as a whole so far, it’s charming and a nice little quality interlude series connecting phase 4. It’s got some sweet wholesome bits and some comic nods and some tie-ins to other stuff like the ep4 Kate and Clint movie night and the battle of NY.

Sure he was taken away by cops but Fisk also has cops under his belt. That all could have been a ruse to throw off Kate. I don't think we know enough yet to say whether he was right or not

I'm getting the vibe that maybe Mom is kind-of a middle-man for hiring assassin's and such. Like, say some big boss-of-all-crime wants someone taken care of, they ring Mom and ask "Hey, is Bullseye free", and she's like "No, but I can spare Ronin", or something. I don't think Hawkeye killed Echo's dad. I think that was someone (previous Ronin - Swordsman?) working for Mom, under hire of Kingpin. Which would lead into the Echo solo TV series, in which Kingpin would be the main villain and possibly Daredevil would co-star. A few things you didn't mention that maybe you haven't taken into account: A) They precision skills Mom displayed in episode 1 when flicking the bit of food into her mouth (Lady Bullseye?) Could she have been more hands-on earlier in her career? B) The Maya flashback in episode 3 was date-stamped when she was a little kid doing Karate, but the flash-forward to her Dad getting killed by Ronin was not. Leaving that exact time period that that occurred deliberately vague. C) Mom probably sicced Black Widow onto Clint in Episode 4. Does this mean she's in conversation with Black Widow's current handler (presumably Valentina Allegra de Fontaine)? Also, Mom definitely killed her previous husband (though probably not pre-meditated, more of an opportune moment) Also, also... Is the next big Avengers-style film going to be Young Avengers vs. Dark Avengers?

I never thought of this until you mentioned Madame Masque. What if Eleanor isn't Madame Masque, but Kate's dad has another secret daughter who is? What if Marvel isn't quite ready to reintroduce Wilson Fisk, BUT, Kate's dad fills that role? Kate's dad looks a lot like Count Nefaria. Count Nefaria was a Maggia (Marvel's "Mafia") boss. So by the end of Season 1, Clint is retired, but Kate has a whole swath of her own enemies. Not Echo of course, because she's getting her own series, but dad survives and it turns out there's another secret daughter about ten years older than Kate, who ends up being Kate's arch-enemy/half-sister in Season 2. Hawkeye is one of the few Marvel series that seems primed for a second season. Clint could retire, but be a mentor Kate can call on occasionally and Kate can take up the heroic mantle. The only thing about the series that slightly disappoints me is we're not going to get a Swordsman complete with Makluan technology blade.

As for the mom being a villain, I was sure of that after episode 1 and Jack is clearly a bit of red herring, as in more of a henchman than the big bad. I think he either put the sword and costume up himself for sale (why he was there driving up the price for it) or he knew Eleanor had done it. Not sure if he killed Armand to keep him from revealing Eleanor's criminal connections or if Eleanor herself did it. I'm still 60% certain that the Ronin that killed Maya's dad was not Clint, we've never heard him actually acknowledge doing it. If he did, there is no way Maya would ever stop hunting him and his family and we know she doesn't die because spinoff-series.

Haley does a pretty fun play on Kate Bishop. I think the thing that just bothers me about this is the show has too much plot and the show crashes the two character objectives together in a very disjointed way. The biggest thing that bothers me is this missed the heart of the book. I cared about the tenets of the apartment and when Grills dies, it's like a shot through my own heart. When Clint let's Simone and her kids come watch holiday specials at his place, I feel for a single mom who just caught a break and watching her pass out on the floor is relatable. It's not absent from the show. Clint wants to be there for his kids. I just don't fucking understand why he doesn't go home.

The “Madame Masque” in Agent Carter is an actress who uses the name Whitney Frost as a stage-name - Madame Masque’s real name in the comics. She never uses the name Madame Masque, she never wears a mask even invoking Madame Masque’s…mask. So Eleanor being Madame Masque is not even a little bit of an issue here.

I had a terrible thought. What if the “uncle” is actually Eleanor’s father - Luciano Nefaria! Eleanor “becomes” Madame Masque at the end (face deformed or to preserve identity). And if Kingpin does not show up, then people can be pissed again (see also Mephisto, Quicksilver, etc.)

My theory, which I haven’t seen, is that Jack is the “uncle”. They already said he’s the ceo of the tracksuits and he interested in Ronin stuff. Maybe as a gift for his niece, to help track ronin down. That will be revealed and we’ll find out that Eleanor is the real bad guy with her boss, Fisk, behind her doings. Which are separate from what the tracksuits are doing. Armond was tryin to warn Jack that Eleanor and Fisk were trying to take over his gang.

As far as Kate's Dad is concerned, up until the first episode it wasn't clear who he was going to be playing, so I had the idea that he might be Hawkeye's brother Barney, then episode 1 had him as Kate's Dad. I say this because after watching this video it got me thinking again, what if he is truly Hawkeye's brother and he's just undercover with a different name or whatever (sort of like is suggested in the video, but like Eleanor's part of Kingpins team, and Kate's Dad is a sort of double agent, like he's truly working for Shield or whatever organization Contessa is working for (especially if he is Barney, it would be interesting to have him as a Dark Avenger) or whatever but he's undercover in Fisks team or whatever to get close to Eleanor or whatever). It would be an interesting twist for the show, especially since a big aspect of the show is family. If Hawkeye keeps Laura and their kids secret, why wouldn't he keep a secret about having a brother as well. I could even see it be something where he sees a picture of Kate's Dad and he has a flashback of them as kids and either Kate is showing it to him and says it's her dad, or Clint grabs the picture from somewhere and is looking at it and Kate walks in and asks why he has a picture of her dad or asks who the picture is of and Clint tells her it's a picture of his brother then she looks more closely and mentions that it's a picture of her Dad or something. It would also be a nice parallel to Natasha and Yelena, and something Clint and Nat could have bonded over (both having siblings), and would give Kate and Yelena more of a reason to become friends like Clint and Nat were, assuming they want to do that. Also, if he does turn out to be Barney Barton, I don't think he's the one on the watch, it's definitely possible that he is on the watch, but I don't think it's him. It could be too that he's not on Echo's list because it was only meant to be Hawkeye's living family and he's dead, or at least presumed to be, or he would have been on the list but Echo had to leave before completing the list (it does seem weird that it would list Cooper and Lila's ages, but not Nathaniel's, almost like it's incomplete), or Kate broke into Echo's apartment while she was writing it and she put it down and hid to surprise attack Kate or whatever.

big twist: the stepfather is the dad and he faked his death in avenger's. he used to be called the matador and was trained and inherited the swordsman title while hawkeye became ronin. this would be what the mom was arguiing about with armand, why she's extra sketchy and he's extra laid back about how kate treats him and explains her natural talent with weapons and that kingpin was who helped them out and he's 'uncle', so, echo and the track suits are working for him.

The language Laura spoke is German. Well, at least it was supposed to be because I (native German-speaker) still don't know what that line was supposed to be and I wouldn't have identified it as German without the English subtitles. Just a nitpick but it's pretty common in US productions. There are some actors who do it really well and others you don't understand at all. I can forgive it with recurring cast members because languages are hard and they weren't cast just for that purpose. If you cast someone for one scene though - who is supposed to be German - it gets an eyeroll from me. You don't need to cast a German. But at least get someone who can speak halfway decent German so that those who speak it can understand it. Always breaks immersion. Goes for other languages, too.

As a non-German speaker it definitely sounded more like when I hear people on TV speak German rather than TV Russian to me and I never thought it could be anything but German. I'm not sure why people keep thinking it was Russian, maybe they are being biased due to the TSM connection. It is weird though that they didn't have her get the line right if it was German. I appreciate not everyone is great with languages, but it's not like she was having a conversation, it was literally one line, you'd think she could parrot it. Makes me wonder if they're going for a non-specific language, like from a fictional European country that exists in the MCU (Latveria or something), that could be an interesting twist/set up for the future, like if Laura used to work for VVD.

@@TheDelinear Interesting theory but it definitely was supposed to be German. I had English subtitles on and it said that she was switching into German. Otherwise, I would have never gotten the idea that this was supposed to be German. Maybe Russian and German sound similar to people who don't speak either? Interesting. You would think that one line should come out halfway decent. But it really depends on the actor. Some do an amazing job, others not so much. One of the best actors speaking German is Michael Fassbender for me. He did a great job in X-Men: First Class. You can hear a slight accent but you understand him very well. His German heritage probably helped in that regard.

I thought the butterscotch was weird to implicate Jack. It just means he had been to his uncle's ever. Maybe it would be more odd for the mother to have some, but her having been to visit her fiancée's family isn't unusual.

Why wouldn't the mom be the matador? She is literally wearing the red cape as was pointed out. ALSO matador related there was an exchange with Jack and a rose in his mouth he tries to give Kate. Anything there? Probably not but maybe?

In general the netflix shows have been stated to not be canon.... However , with the Multiverse opening up Some character and storylines will begin entering canon like Charlie Cox DareDevil and Vincent D'Onofrio Kingpin

And they probably only keep the actors because if you look at them both for fan reception to the castings the fans actually like the castings for those two that's probably why they're keeping them so far stuff like Ghost Rider it will probably be recast because people didn't like the casting for Ghost Rider in both of his appearances when it comes to casting the same thing with iron fist those two are probably going to be the big ones to be recast when it comes to characters who already appeared before in MCU media also this will probably mean Ms marvel would be a mutant because they're trying to separate themselves from the horrible inhuman show and also it's something I can definitely seem them doing with Mis marvel it works oh so they were changing stuff from the comics so they just probably going to combine mutants and inhumans considering the very very similar to each other so if you are going to make sense to combine those two you just have her be a mutant which is what they're going to do judging by my logic

I’m honestly really enjoying where the show is going. It starts off slow and meh, but it gets better and better and both more fun and interesting, but also deep, analytical, intimate, and overall, just personal and I love it. Hope it keeps it up and marvel sticks the landing. I believe in you marvel! The good can out weigh the flaws! (Also Kingpin please PLEASE-)
