When it comes to the Skrulls I'm operating under the assumption that any character that is revealed to be a Skrull has only been once since the beginning of the show unless explicitly stated otherwise.

@fatcatsgoneblack I'm pretty sure that Ross is still living his life normally, and the skrull stole his identity like a day before the scene started solely to trick that one guy.
@Tuaron Жыл бұрын
Yeah, especially for someone like Ross - I'm pretty sure they were just taking advantage of how easy it is to impersonate someone for a brief period, especially when he's supposed to be on the run/in hiding after the end of Wakanda Forever, so most people wouldn't know enough about his whereabouts/movements to think it was an impersonator. If they wanted us to go "oh, Ross was a Skrull all along", they did not set that up/communicate that well.

Also, the fact that if the reaction wasn't as bad as it is, they would get away with it and use more AI going forward. They stopped the One-Shots because the last one was to retcon Iron Man 3 and it was so poorly received that they stopped that altogether. But the Specials were well received so there's going to be more of those. Same principle here.

Definitely agree with you on the show needing to have another lead added that's a bit more higher energy. Everyone is so sullen. I do feel like Disney/Marvel missed out on an opportunity to bring back Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau because 1. Monica has connection to several of the characters already (Fury, Talos, Gaia) and it would've been interesting to get a sense of if she and Maria had even kept in contact with the Skrull, or at least the ones they knew personally. 2. The mid-credits scene for the WandaVision finale, set up Monica being reintroduced to Fury, so this would've been a great way to set it up as them working together at least for a bit before shipping her back off to space where she could've served as a "woman in the chair" role which leads into 3. tie-in the only movie they have left for this year: The Marvels. If both this series and that movie were supposed to be follow ups to Captain Marvel, why not try to boost sales and make an attempts to connecting the story more?-

Okay, so the title/intro sequences are sometimes at the end of the episodes. That's the case for WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk (WandaVision did also have an era specific intro for many of the episodes as well). Loki and Secret Invasion both have them in the middle of the episode after a few minutes have passed (though Loki only really has a title card and then the sequence is saved for the end, so maybe not?). And then What If...? starts out with the title sequence. So I guess when you think about it, Secret Invasion is the first of the D+ shows to have a standard title sequence. Edit: Hawkeye did have stylized title sequences for every episode, though. So I guess two shows. I kinda forgot Hawkeye existed for a second, though. But I don't think we ever got the main Hawkeye theme played during those title sequences.

Melinda May especially makes sense because IRL Ming Na Wen was in Boba Fett so it's not like she doesn't know Disney Plus people. And in the story, if they don't retcon everything, there was the whole Life Model Decoy season and plotlines and while it isn't entirely the same I think someone who a) has worked for Shield for a long ass time and was trusted by Fury personally (to spy on Coulson in the early seasons) b) has experience with bad guys looking like good guys and c) is an incredible BAMF who can kick all the ass old man Fury can't anymore, and now with Maria gone we need a right hand woman so bring her on in. TLDR Agents of Shield is incredibly underrated and deserves to be part of the 'mainstream' MCU

Ever since Far From Home, I've had the theory that Soren has been Mariah Hill since the 90's and Mariah Hill doesn't actually exist, she's just Soren's human alias which would have been really cool, Nick Fury's right hand was a Skrull this entire time and maybe he was the only one at SHIELD that knew that.

@Marnie_C Жыл бұрын
The intro gave me major uncanny valley vibes which I think is what they were going for. A lot of times with movies involving alien assimilating into Earth, there is always a moment where the alien that is pretending to look human looks just slightly off. Our brain is trained to know what a human looks like but when things are off it causes uneasiness. The intro gives off that vibe. The world is shifting and swirling and nothing is in "focus". I also think it isn't just straight AI art, it has elements of counter culture soviet art which fits with the setting. The soviets wanted art to be 100% representational of the world but the counter cultural wanted to express themselves which resulted in expressive distorted images. It also has vibes of propaganda art from the period which again fits into the narrative of "there is no secret invasion, you're friends aren't shape shifting aliens"

Will it carry over the rest of the series after hitting the point that hard right off the bat? We’ll see. But a good choice.

I think this is going to end up being a bigger problem in the later shows or movies that are trying to tie in multiple projects together, but it felt like I missed an entire movie about Skrulls just in trying to watch the first episode. Nick fury on saber? Talos and Gaia having a connection? It felt like so many of the shield, characters or Skrull characters had so much background or connection that we just haven't seen before. I probably need a rewatch of Captain Marvel, but unless I caught the post credit scene for far from home as well as some other things that I'm sure I've missed, it felt like there was a lot of background info that was assumed without being given.
@Tuaron Жыл бұрын
Fury on SABER is just a thing revealed in the SM:FFH post-credit scene, never elaborated on until now, the Talos/G'iah thing is simple (she's the daughter from Captain Marvel, she just grew up in those 30-ish years) but there was a breakdown in the relationship we're now learning about (definitely something that'll be expanded upon further, over this series), most of the stuff is being told to us now, not stuff it assumes we'd know (which is why we're being told it, sometimes repeatedly).

I feel crazy right now because the title sequence was the thing I liked the most about this episode. I don’t know why it was just feeling “meh” the whole time, maybe writing (cant place exactly in what way though so idk)? It never felt either tense or surprising in a show about uncertainty and impostors? Or maybe I need to rewatch and see if it was just whatever mood I was in or something. Edit: might be the low energy thing you mentioned? Also maybe the writing thing is that dialogue felt very expositional, even the emotional stuff was expositional because we barely actually know these characters and what they mean to each other. So they would say something that felt vulnerable or honest and then immediately move to another piece of exposition. Worst offender was when fury asked talks about Gravik and talks says “let’s talk about you first” and then like two sentences later he talks about gravik anyway.
@localyocal498 Жыл бұрын
I felt the same way. Loki's ending kind of stumbled due to the long monologue explaining everything to us instead of finding a way of showing us these things. the way they used AI for the title sequence is honestly the best case we could hope for. They didn't try to hide or mask it in any way, they openly stated that it was AI and it was obvious just by looking at it. It was also clearly a stylistic choice as they still hired and payed for a VFX studio for to produce it. I honestly thought that the sequence's bizarre look was appealing in a way, it was something so inhuman that a human couldn't really replicate the same "uncanny valley" feel, making it pretty unique.

Endgame is late 2023, Fury is in SABER by mid 2024, so does this show take place in like 2030? I have trouble seeing how this could take place any time earlier than late 2027 (~3 years to build up the skrull resistance), especially since the skrull seemingly live ~3 times longer than humans, so presumably their grudges and resentment wouldn't grow as fast, making a resistance like this take longer to start growing. I suppose in the grand scheme it doesn't really matter, if everything is kept behind the scenes and is therefore not noticed by the public, then it shouldn't affect any other properties

Before I forget: can Nando tell me where to find that desktop image? Looks great. Is that Hope near the focal point? I liked what we got from Mendo so far, especially that moment after Fury killed the Skrull, just seeing Talos' sorrow that another member of his people had to die. Olivia Colman was fun, the "Fury you're not the same" messages were going a bit too far but I'll forgive it if that becomes more subtext rather than a superliminal thing in subsequent episodes, the Rhodey/President conversation felt really odd and out-of-place in this episode (particularly as we got no follow-up/callback in this episode, so definitely a thing that'll work better in the overall series but not so much in this episode). Not a fan of the Maria Hill death/cliffhanger partly because of what Nando mentions: she has been a good presence (I do like Cobie Smulders), but also has felt like too much of a blank slate/cipher/underwritten character that I don't have nearly as much emotional attachment (and I do have to concede that the MCU's been pretty vicious in killing off female characters, especially as Talos' wife is killed off-screen, too). I definitely understand where Nando's going with the "lack of hype train" thoughts, definitely highlights some of the...less apparent effects of the WGA strike (and good on 'em, they should get a good, fair deal). Similarly wonder about whether the uncertainty about the future of the MCU doesn't help and the Secret Invasion storyline running into the Civil War issue (vastly scaled down, shifted to fit a rather different storyline) is...a choice that could work, or at least deliver something good despite not being a great adaptation.

Nando would be a good director as he is good at noticing momentum in scenes and how they should compare/contrast with each other.

Sam Jackson is 74 right now. Good on him for still having presence to do action but … it’s getting wonky and awkward too.

1. The marketing for this show isn’t great 2. Captain marvel made everyone less clear on the skrulls and their role in things, and it seemed like interest in them dropped off after that. 3. Most peoples first exposure to this show was all of the bad press from the AI opening, already putting a bad taste in peoples mouth before even trying the show out. 4. Marvel is already kind of walking on eggshells right now with the fandom. Very curious to see how this one turns out.

Lol the reviews are all over the place. It's good, it's boring, its a solid start, its bad, the opening credits are stylistic, no they're ridiculous................. Just amazes me with all the varying opinions and all these youtubers being like "hey its just my opinion, but I'm also right but I can't say that, but you should also respect my opinion and you're wrong for disagreeing with me!!!..............But without actually saying that you're wrong because I can't say that........or maybe I do because I don't care what people think." That is KZbin reviewers of comic book properties in 2023. Outstanding................

Serious question is agent Coulson alive, or is the mcu just operating like nothing in agents of shield did not happen?

Talos wife is not dead. She’s disguised as somebody else.

Marvel should 100% be ashamed of using AI

Im watching dude! I super appreciate the level headed and positive perspective you provide. I get too curious for my own good and look at too much of the chuds and jabronis posting their BS, so coming to you is always positive. The AI stuff is bad, yes. But thats literally the only thing people are focusing on. One thing i kinda want to mention is Fury's personality. Fury in CM was more happy go lucky and more trusting. After years of experience and betrayal hes more hardened and serious, but still full of heart and wisdom. This show portrays him as a kinda cooky slightly bitter old man. I feel like the show wants us to really pay attention to Fury. My big prediction is that regardless of whatever skrull reveals happen, theres gonna be some massive reveal about Fury himself. We have a long time with him unaccounted for. We gotta learn. Has talos been fury since before the blip (the age of ultron diagonal toast theory)? What caused him to change and never return to earth? Why does Damage Control know hes not on Earth? Lots of questions.

I feel like the question 'is Fury a Skrull?' sits in the same category as 'is Deckard a replicant?' like the story is less interesting if the answer is yes, it would undermine what the story is actually about
