This movie takes place in small town Idaho during 2004. But it looks like it takes place in the 70s, 80s, or 90s because lots of small towns in the USA look behind a decade or two ..or three... because people are relatively poor and find ways to save money by buying used items including clothes. They don't tend to care about fashion if it means they can save money. I grew up relatively poor in a small town, so I can relate so much to this movie. We had 70s shag carpet from my Aunt when she updated her carpet, she gave us her old one. Even when they came out with flatscreens and computers, we could afford neither, we had my grandma's old tv from the 70s, complete with its wooden frame. The reason he's on that bus with the small kids is probably because he can't afford a car, or hasn't gotten his driver's license yet. It's a right of passage for American teens to get their driver's license when they are about 16 years old. And lots of teens get jobs and save for a car, or their parents buy them one. So most kids drive to school in high school if they can. Napolean asked if they have large talons. Talons are the claws that birds have on their feet. Glad you guys liked it. It is of course a bit exaggerated, but it really isn't far from real life in small town America in a lot of ways.

That's one of the funnier things about this movie. It's making fun of small towns in the middle of nowhere. Pretty much all of Idaho is completely empty. Just so you know, this is what most of America is like. I am a Canadian who traveled to every state in the continental USA for work, and this is the norm. HOWEVER, there are some places that are fluffing awesome. So many people think everyone in the usa is rich, but not the case.
@EagleFang74
@EagleFang74 14 күн бұрын
This is not "the norm". This is much more of a sterotype of the midwest and northwest. The northeast and mid-atlantic states are nothing like this. Every state has rich and poor areas. Calling this the norm is insulting. These people were written and acted as caricatures and meant to be seen as weird and outlandish. Stick to describing Canada.

In rural country areas of the US, all the kids in one area often ride the same bus -- little kids up to high school. They usually drop the little kids off at elementary school, and the older kids will usually transfer to another bus to go to the high school. School bus routes are very expensive for less populated areas. The part where he's tasting milk, he was being tested by The Future Farmers of America. The Future Farmers of America (FFA) is a youth organization that focuses on agriculture education and leadership development. I've probably seen this movie at least a hundred times, and I still laugh my a** off when that orange hits the windshield and Uncle Rico screams. From what I understand, during filming, the actor playing Uncle Rico had no idea that they were going to do that, so it was an actual reaction.

This movie, and other polarizing movies (usually small, independent ones), kind of broke Netflix in the early 2000s. People either loved Napoleon Dynamite or they hated it, and there was almost no in between, so the Netflix recommendation algorithm(s) started being less accurate - they called it The Napolean Dynamite Problem. In 2006 Netflix ran a competition with a $1M prize for the best movie recommendation algorithm that could bump their recommendation accuracy by at least 10%. Someone actually won, but I don't remember any of the details. Edit: I didn't even finish watching this movie the first time, I thought it was so stupid. But I came back to it later, and have seen it several times and I think it's hilarious.

As someone who learned to draw on my own, it takes practice to get better. Napoleon just needs to keep drawing and improving his technique and eventually he would be very good. My niece started drawing very rough cats and, because she loved to draw, she kept at it and got very good. I saw this video on KZbin of a father and mother seeing their child's drawing and the father started laughing and rolling around. That would destroy a child's confidence in drawing and trying to improve.

There is a stereotype that the Midwest is 10 years behind the rest of the county. So making a movie in 2004 Idaho, feels like 1994. The clothes, hair styles, glamour shots, school lunches, and music all scream 90's Americana.

This movie was made a shoe string budget. Better than 90% of the 75million dollar movies today.

This movie is so strange. It was filmed in the early 2000s and you can tell it is set in the early 2000s because of the cell phones. But everything looks like the lamest possible version of 1982 in America. Love it.

Hi guys,hope you had a great weekend! Could you please react to Frequency (2000)... it's basically a sci-fi fantasy thriller with heart. It's not actually time travel, but it involved communication over time through a radio. I think you'd love it.

There's another movie from this director called Gentleman Broncos that's just as weird and funny. I haven't seen anyone react to that yet.

I thought tetherball was invented in Algiers. I've always thought North Africa was a tetherball hub. JK :)

Talons .. the sort of claws youd see on an eagle. Or a dragon :) chickens do not have large talons.
