I test out a brand new Napoleon ROGUE XT 625 with Infrared Side Burner and completely miss out on all the features because I have no experience with BBQs! Apparently the side burner is used for searing steaks, not boiling water. The side shelves fold, and they have different Propane vs. Natural Gas models because of different burners. Either way the food tasted good and it was quick!

how does one spend a good amount of money on a bbq, go to the effort of making a video, yet not know what an IR burner is?

Their advertising specifically mentions the side burner is meant for cooking steaks. they said the heat given off the infrared burner incinerates the juices and therefore leads to little to no drippings.

Sounds yummy! Haven't yet had a chance to try it... seems like I'm mostly cooking hot-dogs, sausages, hamburgers and chicken! NO steaks yet, can you believe it!

The key is to get greats really hot before putting meat on and don't move to soon and I won't stick. Also the side burner is a infra-red sear burner

It is a bit late now, but you should season your grill grates prior to cooking anything on them. Those are cast iron grates so they can be seasoned similar to a cast iron skillet. There are plenty of videos on KZbin that show the process like this one "kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqTdhn6Hmd-kgtk". Seasoning your grates will keep food from sticking to them. Also, your side burner is an infrared heating element, which gets extremely hot. This side burner is typically used to sear steaks and other cuts of meat. You don't need to worry about grease dripping on the side burner because it gets so hot the fat sort of evaporates.

the side burner is for searing meat like steaks. it’ll heat up to 1200* degrees and cook a steak in seconds

Thanks! So I assume that's for making "rare" and "medium rare" steaks where all you want is the outer surface seared and the inside still raw?

@@elithegreat6463 Thanks for the advice, I will look for it! I usually cook steaks on the main burners as the family likes more medium to well-done. Personally I prefer rare so I may use the searing side burner once I learn how.

Just got this grill to replace a weber genesis . So far it is superior to the weber in igniting the main burners, running up to 700 degrees and searing steaks the grills are larger and come in 3 pieces . Aesthetically it looks better and seems better built.

I don't have much previous experience with BBQ's but I agree this one does the job nicely so I am spoiled and don't even know it. 🙂

The side burner is a sear station you can definitely put steaks and stuff straight on there also with the sticking that usually means it's not ready to turn leave it cook longer then see that the meat releases from the grill

Put some oil in your marinade mixture and it wont stick. Extra oil will just burn down!

You didn't season correctly that's why it's sticking my brother.

Thanks for the tip! I've been cooking on it for a while now and things are better, I guess it's built up a layer of charred food deposits but I need to clean it and season it again!

@@devhackmod Thank you for the video! I am actually considering upgrading my BBQ (low budget, it was my first BBQ so I had to learn) to the Napoleon SE 625. I hope you are still having fun using the Napleon! Try to use a brass brush after heating up your BBQ to max. temperature after every cooking session. With that kind of brush you can clean the grates easily and use the "layer" in order to prevent the sticking. The same way you clean a cast iron pan!

@@GReddy-if2pi Thanks for the advice! Yes, I'm still using the BBQ frequently, works great and no problems sticking but I will continue to clean the top well after it gets hot.

🤣No clue! I didn't want a BBQ, wife buys it and expects me to start cooking on it! Since this video was made I've learned and become better but by no means a BBQ expert... I know just enough to feed the family without poisoning them and without blowing myself up. 🤣

Yes, I know but this video is bit old. If it's any consolation, I've been using the BBQ a lot more the past few years and making good use of it! Everyone is a new driver at one point... then they get more experience. I was lucky to have the best to learn on. 🙂

In all honesty, the grill seems very disappointing. Does really have that strong sizzle you’d expect from a expensive bbq I think my small weber baby q 100 would cook that chicken so much better -no joke

Does the type of gas make a difference? For example, natural gas versus liquefied propane tank? Our BBQ is hooked up to the main house gas line, and I believe the combustion properties of natural gas is different to propane.
