There are 2 versions... "Degrassi JR High" was the original show in 1987. "Degrassi" was a remake in 2001. They may have used Narbo in the 1987 original... but even if they did, it never caught on as a common slang.

I’m a mid boomer with mid gen X kids. The oldest only did a short stint of Valley Girl speak & then focused back on her studies. The youngest had a great saying…something about monkeys flying out her butt…. She’s still colorful & funny. My boy thought he was a surfer thug dude…now he’s a boss. He was always boss. I love your videos. It helps me understand why my kids & their friends were so cool.

The thing about monkeys flying out of one’s butt is from a Saturday Night Live skit series, “Wayne’s World.” Wayne would say, “And monkeys will fly out of my butt!” To indicate something extremely unlikely.

Just looked it up since I wasn't familiar with it either, found out it wasn't commonly used so much in the US but it stems from a Canadian show The Kids of Degrassi Street which I wasn't familiar with either. Admittedly I would only have been 5 at that point. But most words lasted more than a year. I don't remember it at all. I remember ALLLLLLL of the other things you mentioned, and you left out, like, how, like, we added like, like to everything. That was a thing for a while. Maybe California needs to check in specifically? A lot of the slang came from there, and when someone mentions some sort of '80s slang that I don't specifically recognize, sometimes it's something that just didn't make it off the West Coast.

You and I were born in the same year, and I've never heard of it. I came to this video to see what I'd missed, hoping you'd tell me what it was. This was surprising to me because what I've learned since this crap started against us, is that we all grew up the same in a time when the Internet didn't exist. To all the kids around, that means that we didn't even get on the same trend at the same time. It took time for things to spread across our nation (like clothing and haircut fads (for guys: Rat Tails, for gals: tall bangs). But somehow, we all had the same upbringing: OUTSIDE and OUT OF SIGHT.

It’s from Degrassi the tv show which is Canadian and wasn’t around in the 80’s that I know of. It means “No Acting Required By others” on the show. A But there are a few other meanings I saw too. Urban dictionary says it means f-king Moron, loser , idiot or Hoser. Hoser is also Canadian slang. It was in the movie Strange Brew with Bob and Doug McKenzie that came out in 83’. I remember it being used by some but it was short lived in the states I think. Greens Dictionary of Slang says a Narbo is “an insignificant, boring person” but it’s dated 1993’. Not a GenX slang word. Not because it’s Canadian but because it’s dated early 2000’s.
