Daniel Hill thats kinda harsh, but your right, ken is being a hypocrite though. Which is what I was trying to say, I don't hate them, cause I don't know them, and therefore I don't want to judge them. But your 100% right. People will only get mad at what effects THEM personally, or get mad at what everyone is mad at just cause everyone is hating, but as soon as a day pass or something else happens people don't care anymore. Its the culture man. I don't think its gonna change.
@cesariogarcia11366 жыл бұрын
Daniel Hill exactly. The album was okay. It had high points, but I think that was based on the production. Nas just wasn't spitting like he can. It was too basic for nas. It was like I was hearing it, and I was just bored. The real shitty thing is Beyonce and jay z dropped a album the same weekend, which is crap because I think jay rock had the best album out all three, but it was overshadowed by jay and b. And nas.

People that says Kanye was the problem on this album (Ken) are just hating on him and afraid to say Nas fell short in every single aspect of his job as an mc. Nas on his prime (not even Illmatic Nas but Stillmatic Nas) would have kill every single beat on Nasir.
@mistahmst6 жыл бұрын
The beats were wack. The drums were weak and sounded more like ideas that never really build up to anything. Nas's performance was also pretty lackluster for the most part, but at the same time, I have a feeling that his heart just wasn't in it because he was also given lackluster beats. I'm not making any excuses for Nas because he decided to put the album out anyway, but let's not act like he was alone in making this album forgettable.
@chrisjfox87156 жыл бұрын
Or they just disagree with you. Not everyone's going to agree with you sometimes, just accept it. Even the beats were much better on Daytona. If I, or any of them, was hating on Kanye then why do we unwaveringly love Daytona so much? You guys make zero sense.
@rafinhaipsep6 жыл бұрын
Nas been rapping on beats worse than the ones Kanye gave him almost his whole life and rapped waaaay better than this. and I know is subjective but I don't' see nothing wrong with Bonjour, Not For Radio,White Label, Adam and Eve and Everything beats. Even on Cops Shot the Kid kanye had the best verse, the only bar close to a quotable on that track is on kanye's verse ("Tell me, who do we call to report crime If 9-1-1 doin' the driveby?"), and this is a kanye far away from his prime lyrically, that's how bad Nas was on this album.

Yes because Nas is not a legend, he's just a soundcloud rapper trying to make it so he couldn't' say no to kanye west beat that he didn't' like, that's why, according to Ken, he rapped over 6 beats he didn't like at all ("Everything" being the exception). Lets be honest. Nas is a great lyricist. But, he’s not the most articulate or artistic dude. He is not an artsy type at all. I say that because... it was probably SUPER difficult for Nas to catch a vibe with KanYe. Even with KanYe fanning out, he’s so eccentric. I can definitely see KanYe rambling on and on about what he wants from Nas, and Nas sitting there like, “....aiight...” Lol. And then Ye starts changing tracks and beats, and redoing stuff, and Nas is like, “WTF?! Man, I gotta get this over with, so I can get back to NYC, asap” LOL
@gdiggedy96 жыл бұрын
Nas just wasn't motivated at all to do this. His past work with Kanye is superb. Poppa Was a Playa, We Major, Still Dreaming, Let There Be Light. This is not the album Nas said was done 2 years ago.

No he is tho...did you listen to distant relatives when nas collabed with damian marley? Nas spazzed the fuck out on that. Because the vibe was right. I think him and kanye just wasn't a great match. that being said, nas still delivered the hardest verse of the year on adam and eve last verse

+Eleftherios maybe present day Nas and Kanye is not a great match, but the songs they did in the past years ago are excellent. Maybe with more time this album could have been great. It feels rushed.

Very true!!! But I just disagree with the Original comment stating that nas isn't articulate or artistic. Dude has had great ideas and been artsy. I don't know what yall are talking about.. for me this is one of the best albums of this g.o.o.d. music run. The beats throughout this are all amazing. I definitely thought that Kanye kinda outshined Nas, but Nas didn't sound terrible to me. He could've delivered some better hooks here and there maybe, and some lines were pretty cringy, but otherwise he sounded good. He didn't have a flow like Illmatic, but he sounded good enough. but the production is the main event on this album for sure. Kanye's samples are crazy. Thank you DEHH! I swear I was telling people that the Nas album let me down hard. Not cause Nas didn’t rap well enough but cause he was overwhelmed by Kanye’s production. Whereas Pusha T flowed on Kanye’s production. Nas was supposed to prove he can flow on classic production like he did on Illmatic. But he didn’t. Again it’s not that Nas was terrible but the standard he has set with past projects shows he can do better than this. This disappointment is Nas is like a Straight A student that submitted a C paper. Everybody expecting an A from him and then we get a C instead.

Sometimes u have to let the beat breathe, I like how Nas let the beat be heard & not emphasize his raps too much on the beats. Nas had his usual smooth flow on this album but he also added a bouncy flow as well dat I enjoy. I know Rick Ross is polarizing but Ross got nice beat selection & even wit his usual lazy flow u get the musical experience when listening to Ross because he lets the beat do the talking & u enjoy da production and thats the same way I felt with Nas based on a lot of beats Ye produced for Nasir. Nasir sounded extravagant like a Rick Ross album or early Jay Z albums and I like Nas's new approach to rapping over a different style of music hes not accustomed to, why do u want Nas rapping wit a NY State of Mind flow over these beats, it wont work. Nas lets the music breathe & u were able to enjoy the beats a lot but what Nas was saying was good and his flow was on point. I dont get the critique of Nas's flow, Nas's flow on White Label & Adam and Eve were crazy especially when he switched it up. This is the first Nas album where the beats stood out more than Nas rapping but I dont see dat as a bad thing as everyone else, I like the beats a lot and Nas was saying dope shit & he sounded good, Nas probably dont sound as hungry but Nas doesnt need to spit a bunch of multis wit crazy complex wordplay, Nas gave good content talking bout real shit & had some dope 1 liners, plus the beats were great & had no filler. Wat more from a Nas album u want, dats ur issue u want Nas rapping on dat Illmatic shit & Nas isnt even on dat type of shit anymore. I like Illmatic but people got to let it go & get rid of dat damn nostalgia, its sickening man. Nas always had to fight dat battle of underground & mainstream & its unfair Nas has 7 platinum albums, Illmatic is a classic & Nas best work but It Was Written was more important for Nas's career cause it made him a superstar & Illmatic flopped commercially at first. It Was Written was dismissed at first by Nas being a sellout playing a fake Escobar character dat did mafioso music but years later It Was Written became a classic. Nasir is a great album, man yall too nitpicky
@starrgazer96 жыл бұрын
The World Is Yours was my introduction to Nas at 7 years old through the game Tony Hawk's Underground. Yet, I was satisfied with this album. Different strokes for different folks. This was way better than that Teyana Taylor album, I know that much. If you wanna talk about an artist being able to do better... KTSE represents that fully.
@anthonycelestin35596 жыл бұрын
Screw The Media U can't compare Nasir to Illmatic, their two different sounds & Nas rapped completely different back then compared to now. Even Nas on Life Is Good wasn't rapping with the same intensity as Illmatic. Nas content is maturing even though he isn't spitting wit the same intensity, Nas was rapping more about street shit compared to now, Nas is way more conscious now & talking bout da shit he does by investing in business & going to France. This album lacks real structure and doesn't have a real theme to it but at the same time I felt Nas blended well wit da beats & the songs had a lot of replay value, plus Nas made some good points & said some real shit. Nas got different styles of music & I think its unfair to hold him to just da Illmatic sound, he's more than just a rapper dat did Illmatic.

Funny thing is that with 4:44 Jay-Z beat Nas at his own game. Album had introspection, social commentary, brags not just based on financial nor material wealth, nostalgia, and arguably some of the warmest most soulful beats he's ever got (thank you No I.D. (also thank you for Life is Good LOL)). Jay-Z sounded old and wise. Nas sounded old and senile. Irony.

My expectations were crazy high because when Kanye produced for Nas before we got: Still dreaming Let there be light Poppa was a playa The World (unreleased) We Major (sure it was a Kanye track featuring Nas but listen to the energy, flow and lyrics brought to that, it was lacking on this Nasir) It’s not that Nasir was trash, i just expected so much more because of what I’ve heard from them before when they worked together. Some of those tempos were too slow for Nas too.

It just wasn’t a match made in heaven. The album isn’t bad, imo. But, I don’t get the sense Nas was truly inspired by Kanye’s beats. The talking point of Nas having bad beats is very exaggerated. Everybody has a few duds, but because it’s Nas, people like to exaggerate. If Nas is going to do an album with just one producer, pair him with any of the likes of Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Alchemist, Havoc, RZA, etc. and he’ll come out with a banger.

The slow beats really tripped up Nas' flow. I was waiting for him to break into a crazy story/verse and it just never happened. He just rambles in a slow, erratic flow, never really nailing down a theme. I'm convinced Kanye just stuck random Nas lines over beats Nas didn't actually rap over. It'd explain a lot.

Nas has said in interviews that he needs his time to write and get inspired. I think he spent the last few years writing for his album but when Ye hit him up he scrapped what he had to save it for later and then wrote from scratch which isn't what he's used to. Listen to his features this decade and his albums, he's clearly still got it. No way the guy who wrote Nas Album Done would get out rapped by Kanye on Cops Shot The Kid. Concept/writing wise, that song was built for Nas to kill, especially considering what's going on in America today. Another issue might just be that he's ran out of shit to rap about. The direction of his writing was an issue imo, especially considering the album cover set certain expectations. And he's given us 3 conscious albums in a row and all in different ways. One political, one pro-black album and one personal album. Because of who Nas is we expect another conscious album. But maybe he doesn't want to give us that anymore and wants to be braggadocios and rap for fun like he was on half the album and in his features this decade. He might know he'd get crucified for it and get compared to Jay's 444 though so he kept it on some halfway inbetween conscious and braggadocios shit without being able to commit to either fully. With all that said I still thought the album was decent after I got my expectations in check and realized below average rapping from Nas is still ok considering his standards

Nas is one of those guys whose music only hits in certain areas of your life. Or in certain environments. I hated this album in my car. But walking through my city on a cold morning, I played this on my headphones and appreciated it a lot more. Sounds like a cop out, but that’s honestly how I feel about Nas in general.
@Flow3496 жыл бұрын
Let’s call a spade a spade Nas been working on an album for years with producers like Premo and Kanye came and scrapped the whole thing and copied and pasted the verses from that album over his production. This is why it constantly sounds like Nas is trying to chase the beats...because he probably never actually rapped on them.

Yeah, I'd say the production here sounds phoned in, unlike Daytona, Ye, and KSG. It's hilarious that some people can't accept the fact that us not liking Nasir has nothing to do with some biased agenda. If Nasir had come out first and Daytona last then we might have a different perspective, but like Feefo said, Daytona being so amazing is part of the reason why Nasir sounds so simple and dull.

Here's my opinion on this album, which I admit I enjoy, but there definite flaws that really bring it down. Not for Radio Pros. Very cinematic beat, stellar introduction for the album, lots of powerful statements, Puff's ad-libs Cons. Nas's flow sounds a bit stilted at times, there's a few conspiracy theories sprinkled in there, 070's singing gets annoying for me fairly quick Standout lines: The first 6 six bars, especially, "Sengal's finest, minerals, diamonds/The Earth is cursed but I survive many climates"/ Cops Shot the Kid Pros: That Slick Rick Sample, the tire screech sample, both of which give the track more oomph to the topic at hand, and the old school feel Cons: They could've went in more depth because they have before and delivery wasn't as energetic as it should've been Standout lines: "Get scared, you panic, you're goin' down" White Label Pros: The beat slaps HARD, epic trumpets and all the aggressiveness is Nas's delivery for the first part of the song (energy kinda dies after "that dig you out *****) Cons: A glaring lack of focus on a topic and some uncharacteristically weak lines (That heart attack line and "Its bubbly til its bubbles we see". Like really...) I enjoy it but should've been MUCH better, content-wise. I was expecting some scathing critique about music labels or about corruption of those in power. O well Standout lines: When I fast I see Elijah's features Bonjour Pros: Classy sample, Tony Williams extravagant singing, the speaking of French. It all just makes me imagine living a lush lifestyle, plus its nice and laidback. Cons: Unfocused :( not as descriptive as it should've been and what it should've been was something akin to something on It Was Written, or even Life is Good's The Don or You Wouldn't Understand. Still a good listen though :) Standout lines: Vacation, twisted, whatever happened, missed it/Vacations I didn't like, put myself through a guilt trip Everything Pros: Powerful singing, a very melodic and pensive beat which really bolsters Nas's lyricism, which although a bit all over the place, was superb and beautiful on this track. It was aptly titled since I feel he tried to talk about everything that matters to him cons: none Standout lines: Yellow taxi seats over Maybach seats/Just to remind me, just to inspire me/To stay focused, its a real sick society/ Adam and Eve Pros: The dusty piano sample, The Dream's vocals, Nas's delivery and most of his lyricism. Cons: He was offbeat a few times, he ended the final verse in a lazy way, and was also unfocused here...If he would've delved into the concept 100%, man, this track would've been way better. Standout lines: The first 6 bars, especially, "The Ghetto Othello, the Moor/O my God, they speak venomous on the boy" Simple Things: Pros: Relaxed beat, soothing singing sample, both of which suit the nature of the song, Nas's laidback delivery Cons: In one of the lines, he get's a bit offbeat, but I don't find it too bothersome Standout lines: I drop lines prestigious schools read to their students/Look at my album plaques, somebody agrees with the music" Final notes/thoughts: The beats were phenomenal, so props to Kanye. Nas, I'd to hate to say this, especially with him being my favorite rapper, but he sounds tired. I really hope this isn't his final album. I give it a 6/10

I'm going to real and speak a small 2 cents. Nas album was DOPE. The criticism, for the most part, is by many old heads still basking in nostalgia of Illmatic. Virtually every single time Nas drops a project, there's criticism based off semantics that they'll give others a pass, because they're not Nas. Even Nas on the last track "Simple Things" touches on this and respond that his legacy, the plagues, and acclaim still over these decades, SOMEBODY LIKES IT. And he say, people are more checking on what he got to say over what is being produced. No matter who is the producer, this same argument continues. It's been 20 plus years of this same complaints, and Nas is still doing Nas. The question is what do you want? Nas doesn't owe anyone anything, and been on a 6 year hiatus and it's not his fault that you all over-hype yourselves. To me, all I ever want by any rap album is BEATS & RHYMES. Nothing more. Nothing too fancy. Overproduced. Just samples loops, some kicks or snares, some bass is need be, and just lyricism. This Nasir album was just that. BEATS spit over some lyricism. why search for nuances? Why be overly critical and not just sit and enjoy? Nothing wasn't un-listenable, unless you aren't a true hip hop head that appreciates flipping rare samples and someone to spit bars over. People be asking too much when it comes to Nas and it really boils down to the gift and the curse of Illmatic.

Definitely one of the biggest disappointments in my life. I'm 20, grew up listening to Nas, he's my favorite and most influential rapper. I have to say this was lazy. As a writer myself he probably wrote most of those songs in an hour maybe two MAX. The rhyme's were simple, the schemes were simple the way he ended rhyme schemes were so lazy it's not even funny! As a writer myself this dude did not try at all their was absolutely no fight for perfection. Not to say he'll ever achieve perfection but he most certainly didn't try. I guarantee you Kayne came to him and told him about the project then Nas hit the journal to just pump out an album. 0 blame on Kayne you're an MC this is what you do. The beats were fine NAS is the one who came up short. No memorable verses expect maybe the first 2 on Adam & Eve and even they were weak. I've never been so disappointed in my life you let me down Nas. How could you come out off Life is good after a 6 year wait and write some ish like his verse in cops shot the kid. That was lazy! Most of these verses are lazy he's just talking he refuses to pick up the brush anymore.
