This is why I respect Myke's opinion the most. He doesn't like Kanye the person but doesn't let that distract from the quality of the album; Kinge clearly can't separate the two.

@Chrisratata6 жыл бұрын
Cortez Robinson yeah... He wasnt dissing Kanye as much as he was acknowledging what he wanted more of from Kanye. I don't think Kanye's lazy with his solo projects but I will say that he's riskier with them, overall; when it comes to art, the more risks you take then the more likely you are to be polarizing. When producing for someone else, Kanye still takes risks but I think he's more focused on doing what's best for who he's producing for.

He wasn't dissing Kanye tho. All he was saying was that Kanye seems to be at his best when he collaborates with other people. That was actually him saying how good Kanye's work on this was. If someone said that The Fugees brought the best out of Wyclef, or that The Lox brought the best out of Jadakiss, would you look at that like someone giving the other members of those groups more credit? I wouldn't. I'd look at it like them being praised for what they can do when they have the right people to synergize with. If I can step into a different genre as an analogy, James Newton Howard's best music is when he scores for M Night films - in other words, JNH is at his best when he collaborates with M Night. That's not me knocking JNH's efforts when he works with M Night at all; in fact, it's me acknowledging just how amazing JNH can be. That said, I do think Ken is struggling with accepting just how much he liked it, but the idea that him saying when Kanye is at his best was him discrediting Kanye is just false.

My take on the title: Going back to Ghost Town Part 1 off of Ye (an obvious precursor to KSG), I think the line "we're still the kids we used to be" is definitely related. Back in late April, Kanye kept tweeting about how kids are innocent and pure because their minds haven't been corrupted by the world yet, and how we're all dying to be kids again (aka ourselves). One tweet said: "We're dying because we've lost our inner child." So the 'Ghosts' could literally be themselves now, dying, while the 'Kids', aka their inner child, watches (or sees). Kids See Ghosts. All of that ties in with the mental health stuff as well. They're trying to find their inner child to rid of pain and feel FREEEEEEEEEEEEE. "My childlike creativity, purity and honesty is honestly being crowded by these grown thoughts. Reality is catching up with me, taking my inner child, I'm fighting for a custody." -Kanye on 'Power'

These Kinge's Kanye conspiracy theories are becoming the best part of these Kanye reviews.
@Chrisratata6 жыл бұрын
I didnt even see it as a conspiracy theory actually. He wasn't even knocking Kanye, all he was saying was that Kanye seems to be at his best when he collaborates with other people. Rod echoed what he was saying perfectly - that as an artist, sometimes when we work alone we can get so meticulous and neurotic about our work that it becomes mechanical instead of organic...which sometimes makes a difference in the quality of the work. You'd be surprised how many artists, of all types, can relate to this. Ken wasn't emphasizing the shortcomings of Kanye's solo efforts nearly as much as he was praising the strengths of how great he is when he collaborates. It wasn't a diss. It was Ken essentially expressing what he feels Kanye needs to do more of in order for him to continue to become a fan again.
@rafinhaipsep6 жыл бұрын
The only reason why Ye doesn't sound as polished or well crafted as Daytona and KSG is because Kanye did "Ye" in 3 weeks basically, it has nothing to do with kanye working harder on other ppl's projects.

Banana Rama i hear ya but I'd say he just likes what he likes Plus, and this is a big plus, Ken was actually giving Kanye credit here for how well he did. I'm not even big on Kanye (TLOP was decent, Ye is meh to me) but it takes me outta the review if it seems like someone is backhanded complimenting or has a weird bias or suspects a conspiracy/agenda for the fanbase of the artist. It's cool that he likes what he likes but it also sounds like he's way too narrow minded for the specific kinda shit he wants to hear at times. The fact this dude is putting so much effort into saying 808s was a wack album 10 years later is just tired as fuck. You can tell he looks BOTHERED to say that this shit is even solid. Like c'mon fam, just take a breath. I do agree that Kanye's at his best when he collaborates with others. Kanye's lack of lyricism gets kinda hidden if other people help fill the track out and he can focus on one dope verse and shit like that. Or he'll step it up because of the bar being raised.

This is what happens when you have a preconceived idea about an artists and it doesn't allow you to be even the least bit objective. Ken has such a personal bias against Kanye that he is not able to critique the album honestly. He has to configure his argument around his previous statements about Kanye personally. Its really interesting how the rest of the team really just moved on from Ken. It was hilarious. I really wish that they reviewed the Saba and Skyzoo projects. I am assuming that it is too late for both of them. Its kinda sad.

Curt James which is making ye statement make more sense cuz he has the choice to not listen and slaves had the choice to come together and take over there plantation they deadass outnumbered them like 80 to 1 so it is like they made a choice they let their mind become mentally trapped and people don’t get that ye was trying to say that

I love that y’all have beezy slightly fading in the thumbnail. I thought this album was great at first but after a few listens it’s amazing. I personally think Kanye has been on a great streak with these albums he’s produced.Great video ounce again guys.

no he still salty..never liked his opinions on music anyway since it seems like he only prefers certain types of tracks and never branches out. used to think he was the guy to listen to about production tho, but if he's not giving KANYE WEST beats a listen then I'm done with this dude. so salty.

Myke you were close, I think what you were referring to was “perceptual narrowing”. Still, dope as shit that you knew about stuff like that. Loved hearing you talk about it.

Loved the talk on the title of the album, i took ghosts in a realitivly litral sense as something that haunts. I like this interpretation personally becuase it leaves ghost to stand in for anything that fucks you up at a young age.
@vitaminwater436 жыл бұрын
Daytona 9/10, i love the lyricism, prodution and all around the focus Pusha displayed on this project, and Kanye hats off to him he killed it with his production. Ye 6/10, I get that this is a innerself work I'm just not there in my life anymore so this project isn't for me. Kids See Ghost 8/10 I'm gonna start this off by saying that I've never been a fan of Cudi and i mean ever his lazy signing and drowsy sound wasn't for me but i love the production so fucking much and Ghost Town pt 2 was fantastic.
@kix57756 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I’d probably bring Daytona down to a 8.5 or 8.2 but yeah, totally agree with you. Cudi still doesn’t sound amazing to me but hey, production can really carry an artist

I think I get what Kenge is saying. Kanye is all over the place now mentally more than ever. So maybe him working on his own project is reflecting him being all over the place, whereas working with someone else allows him to focus on one particular direction. This is a recent issue, just like him actually admitting to having a problem being recent.
