Exactly, and also with that rule, if for any reason, a wrecker is needed to free your car when it's stuck with another one, your day is done regardless (see Harvick and Kurt Busch at New Hampshire in the first round of the playoffs as another example), whereas the Reddick incident was before the rule was implemented (along with the rest of NASCAR's new crash protocols this season), so you're all right, there really is no inconsistency, rather it shows the difference of before and after the new rules were put into place.

+RPM Report The Jimmie Johnson situation at the end was legal. The team must complete the pit stop in the box, but if their is an issue during the stop after the driver tries to pull out, they can fix that issue out of the box, they just have to still be in at least a box and not on the actual pit road. They talked about that after the race.

it shouldn't matter, it's STILL doing service outside his pit box, therefore he should've been held a lap

Rule Book said ONLY thing can be done in the box is Tires. You can start fueling if the car is IN or OUT of the box because they don't want you to connect and disconnect because it's a SAFETY issue NOT a advantage issue. And that the same for the Lug Nuts. It's a SAFETY issues not a advantage issue. Jimmie Johnson was 1 of the 8 cars this season that the driver had to finish tightening lug nuts in the 2017. He was the 3rd of the 8 that happened this season and all 8 didn't got penalized.

Steventhe2nd like or not your opinion will not change the rule. NASCAR will not change the rules because fans like it or not. They will only change it if more then majority of the teams complain about something. NASCAR DO listen to the teams. Because last year before the season we complain about splitters are not universal because a RCR splitter will not fit on a Hendricks car. Then most teams asked NASCAR in the summer to make it universal and by November they made it a rule in 2017 that all splitters bolts pattern on the splitter and on the nose of the car need to be the same.

The larger the track, the more you have to depend on other people stationed around the track. I used to work for ARCA. At Atlanta one year, Darrell Waltrip's last race actually, both races were postponed until Monday due to rain. Because of race traffic, regular Monday traffic, and a minor problem, two Cup officials were late. They asked me to spot for turn two and the beginning of the backstretch. So here's what really happens when something goes wrong for someone. I see it, I key my mic, and say, "Watch Car XX, scraped wall out of 2. Track Clear." Then RC decides if any immediate action is needed. If when the car gets to turn 3, and has started leaking something, that gets reported. There is no time to go back through a notebook of past similar situations, and read what was done then. If it happens often enough, it's remembered. If not, it has to be decided right there, right then, right now. At Talladega, you can't see the whole track well enough from the control tower. Now you have to go by what your spotters say and how they say it. TV cameras only cover so much. Each person sees the seriousness of a problem different. So it's not always the RD making the call independently. Now this doesn't address every issue in the video, but these are how problems have to be dealt with. And some examples, there was too much time between comparisons. Rules may have changed, personnel may have changed. Too many variables.

First of all after incident number one NASCAR changed that rule so that if you're trying to avoid a wreck you can speed on pit road so long as you slow back down as soon as is safe. Second the incident with Jr I believe that was before the yellow line rule as there was no double yellow line back then. And everyone knows it's up to either NASCAR or the flagman as when to throw the caution (which is why it's so inconsistent.) And the incident with Johnson at the end is covered by the rule book which says no cars may be serviced outside the pit box except to tighten lug nuts. This rule was added so that cars that did not have tight lug nuts weren't losing wheels on the track, because previously cars that left the pit box would have to drive around the track and could potentially lose a wheel which was a safety concern. However for that incident with Austin, well, there is no explanation there. That was just dumb.

Yeah, isn't that how the rule goes? If you spin, don't hit anything, and are able to continue before the other cars come back around without any potential obstruction of the track, they don't throw a caution. It's happened on short tracks, superspeedways, and road courses as well. Busch's incident resulted in damage, and the likelihood of debris (in fact, wasn't some debris seen coming off after that, or one of the times he hit the wall later on? Like some of that heat shielding or something? Because I recall seeing something fly from his car and shatter into dust on the track at one point afterwards.), not really an inconsistency there, either.

Actually, they already have a 5 mph threshold, but the drivers and teams use that to their advantage. For example, if the marked pit road speed limit is 50 mph, it is actually 55 mph because of the threshold; however, most teams will try to use the threshold and go 55 mph. If the car is clocked at 55.1 mph, the driver is speeding.

Dale Jr. and Regan Smith were in the same situation. Both drivers had position inside before being forced below the line. Both passes were legal. NASCAR probably penalized Regan because at the time he was a relative nobody. Had it been Harvick or Gordon in that car then the call probably would've been in their favor. That win should've gone to Regan.

7:53 was legit BS, he clearly was doing service outside his pit box, ok, so you penalize Dale Jr. in 2009 Daytona 500 for have a front tire outside his pit box, but they let Johnson get away with it, i see how that goes....

yo the last one nascar explained, johnson was allowed to secure the lug nuts outside the pitbox for safety. Did you watch the race?

Mark Schlegel In the race that was just the announcers guess. They didn’t say anything until two days later.

Well 48 was a safety issue... I will say im bias because im a 48 fan but the safety of the drivers is #1, he had great timing, a true champ, he lost 5+ seconds and i think thats penalty enogub

What pisses me off is how often at talladega or daytona they wreck 300 yards from the finish line and nascar throws a caution before the leaders get back to the line. It's 300 freaking yards you are not gonna get safety workers to the crash spot before the leaders take the checkered flag, the cars aren't going to slow to pace speed in that time, let them freaking race back! they stole a win from Brennan Poole last year doing that. It's such bull crap.

I'm not a huge Nascar fan so don't crucify me but I thought it had to be all 4 wheels over the line? The other guy only had 2. If thats the case then Dale did nothing wrong.

That Regan Smith incident still gets me a bit annoyed to this day. Now I'm not glad that fans were hurt, I am glad the 2009 Spring finish happened. It showed NASCAR what happens when you don't want to be black flagged due to bullshit.
