In the scene where Nat and Melina were planning their infiltration, Nat said she would activate her tracker so Ross can find her. In Dreykov's office Nat picked up a vial that didn't explode with the rest. The Jet is called a Quinjet, they also used it in the first Avengers as well as Age of Ultron (where Hulk used it to go into space - supposedly). SHIELD had a lot of them and were eventually adapted for Avengers use in their compound

Regarding their accents, there's something in filmmaking called the Translation Convention where the characters on the screen have a different native language than the audience, so you hear them speaking the audience's language with the understanding that we agree they're really speaking their own language. The way I like to see the use of language and accent in this movie is that I assume they're all speaking Russian, but the fact that Natasha doesn't use a Russian accent means she is now speaking Russian with an American accent due to the years she's been speaking English.
@phr00tpie
@phr00tpie 3 жыл бұрын
I mean i can understand where youre coming from but that doesnt make sense in this film since there are multiple occasions where they are speaking russian and there are subtitles. Going from the horror show that is the rest of the film in terms of attention to detail and storyline I think youre giving too much benefit of the doubt though I admire your generosity towards the director and producers.
@RyanPeterson23
@RyanPeterson23 3 жыл бұрын
@@phr00tpie I know it's not perfect, but, for instance, there's absolutely no reason for them to be speaking English in a Russian prison, so I find it more helpful than the alternative. Truthfully, I don't think they cared one way or the other when they were making the movie. You've got to select a viewpoint and just enjoy the movie, and the one I picked makes more sense than what is actually presented on the screen. It's not benefit of the doubt. It's personal preference.

@charlesiverson1769
@charlesiverson1769 3 жыл бұрын
The whole idea of the transition convention falls apart when you take into account the fact that this is part of a cinematic universe in which they have used subtitles for other languages. In addition, they do use actual Russian many times in this film. I really don’t think it’s a big deal though. When they were a family in America they spoke English, so it makes sense they would still speak English when they come back together. Also, it makes sense that Dreykov would want the widows to use English since it is a more internationally known language than Russian.

14:30 "It has a lot of pockets." In the late 80s and through the 90s, a typical fashion accessory for Marvel's heroes were... just as many pockets as possible. Bandoliers with pockets, vests with pockets, thigh straps with pockets, everything had as many pockets as possible. Yelena, I believe, was created in that same era, and thus her first costume was likely drowning in many over stuffed pockets that never got used.

You have to bear in mind that she’s also recording the whole audio for people to watch along with at home, and pausing frequently complicates things for lining up her commentary with a film. And if you’re thinking “why not edit it?” Well, it’s a lot of audio to comb through and edit which would be a pain in the ass, and even then, it would likely still throw off the synchronization with the film.

Marvel does everything with a plan and never just throws new content out there. This film was to set up her sister as the new Black Widow so she can be in the Hawkeye series and part of the next team of Avengers. The timing for it was perfect. Scarlet did executive produce this film and had a big role in everything during production. She said her main goal was to guide this actress into what it is to play the Widow and she wanted to help make her as cool and badass as possible. As an exec producer, she knew the film had to be more than just being about her and she embraced that. Many people that watched it said Yelena was their favorite part of the film. Goal achieved for Marvel.

@@pkrmkn31 Johansson signed a deal for playing Black Widow for Box Office percentage... Disney+ streams do not count for Box Office earnings and they released the movie simultaneously, so apart from piracy and all, people stayed home and watched the movie instead of going to cinema. That was a loss for her, without movie being a failure. Disney changed the plan for Shang Chi and realized that she was right. People did go more to cinemas, so she proved that she lost income from that streaming move. And that's why she got 40 mil and a new deal for future movies with Disney (not Marvel though)

The others explained everything, but I have to wonder why anyone would read the post and see anything in there that would make them think she wouldn't or couldn't sue the company. I think of the three female-centric superhero movies I have seen (this one, Wonder Woman and Catwoman), this one is the best. The humor is AMAZING and I love the dynamic with the family (especially the two sisters) and how PERFECTLY it fits with Natasha'a character. Throughout her journey, family and loyalty has always been the most important thing to her. In this one, she's immersed in all 3 of her families (the Avengers, her birth mother and her adoptive family.) and we get to see how she deals with that when she doesn't have the "big ones" there to help her. I am really happy they gave her her OWN MOVIE without really using this movie to predict future story arcs. The one in this movie is already done where she rescues the Avengers.

Hello Natalie, I have worked for years as a tour guide in Norway. If you are ok with cool weather and a chance of a lot of rain, then Norway is absolutely stunning. The mountains, fjords, nature, islands, the silence ... It is magical. Generally speaking, the best time to travel, weather wise, is from late June to mid-September. The European holiday season peaks from June to mid-August, so then it can be crowded in many of the most iconic spots, including with cruise ships, though they have been gone now for a while, because of Covid. My personal favorite time of year to travel is from the end of August until mid-September. The weather is often very soft (no guarantees though, that doesn' exist in Norway). The light is beautiful as the Sun gets lower. The business of the Summer season is over. And the nights, though still relatively short, are really dark, with gorgeous stars. I believe in following your own nose in Norway. Like renting a car and driving along the coast. Stopping in small places, booking in small hotels and hostels. And wherever you are outside of the few big cities: go to the outskirts of town (often just a short walk), cross the first hill and you will find yourself in nature, all alone, and everything is quiet. Paradise. Check out the Hurtigruten, the Norwegian coastal ferry system. You can take a car on board (do book in advance, as place for cars is limited). The scenery from Hurtigruten is amazing. The islands, coastline, sea, mountains ... wow. Check a few videos by passengers of Hurtigruten on KZbin to see what I mean. Lastly, think about good clothing. As Norwegians say: there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. A good outdoors breathing, waterproof jacket is a must to have, in case the weather turns. Think Gore-Tex or something like that. Good hiking boots that can withstand the water and have good grip are also great if you go hiking. Not too heavy, not too light, with good support for the ankles, as the trails are often very basic, rocky, with inclines etcetera. For hikes, I swear with Lowa Renegade GTX, to give you an idea of what may be great (though always check whether a certain brand fits your foot). Sneakers work great in the towns and cities of course. Some typical hotspots: the Western Norwegian fjord area, roughly between Bergen and Kristiansund (my personal favorite fjord area is the Nord Fjord area, with Olden and other places around. There, you can also easily hike to some nearby glaciers. Do check out a stave church ifone is nearby. My favorite is the Kvernes Stave Church. And explore some of the quiet islands, for instance the bird island Runde. Further north there is also endless nature, the Lofoten are incredible. And I have a soft spot for the far North, the Finnmark. Wild and endless, all the way up to the North Cape and East to the border with Russia. Norway is not a country for cities. That said, there are a few gorgeous places.My personal favorite is Trondheim, cozy, beautiful and well worth a visit (do explore the cute Baklandet area if you happen to go there). Oslo has some amazing museums and see if you can take a walk along the Akerselva (then just follow your curiosity) or visit one of the amazing little islands in the Fjord, like Hovedoya, easy to reach with the local ferry. Last but not least, take your time when you are there. See where you like it, and stop. I cannot recommend ICELAND enough for your honeymoon. The Missus and I stayed in Rejkyavik for our honeymoon. We saw the Iceland Punk Rock museum, visited Gullfoss, the Geysers, the church (Hallgrim's Kirche) that inspired the architecture on Asgard, drank at Bar Lebowski, had steak at Restaurant Chuck Norris, visited the gift shop at the Phallological Museum (yes, they have a museum dedicated to THAT - we were not mature enough to actually go INTO the museum) and closed off our honeymoon at the hot springs the morning of our flight back to Canada...you'd LOVE it. Also - WE, the audience, know that Barton didn't kill Nat, but the rest of the world does not. The characters, thankfully, are not omniscient. As far as anyone else knows, Barton and Romanov went to get the stone and only one came back and you have to "exchange a soul for a soul"...

It doesn't really start to get good until about episode 13 of Season 1 and it is relentless from that point on. It's done that way by design though. The episodes before episode 13 help build the world around sort of like what The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger did for the movies. It follows the movies to a point and we get to see some familiar faces as well which is cool.

The first clip of them in Ohio takes place in 1995, assuming his primary time as the Red Guardian was before that (as he mentions in cuba wanting to go back on real missions). His primary active time was probably late 80's to early 90's. Honestly, when I watched this movie for the first time, I identified so much with Natasha and everyone in it. Coming from a background with Russian influences, this was perfect. Super accurate, especially Alexei's dialogue but also the entire family dynamic. This was crazy. I had to show it to my family and they also agreed that this is exactly what e.g. talking to my grandpa feels like. There's so many details in this that made me howl with laughter - the fact that Natasha drives a Lada in Norway (why would you choose to drive a car that screams Russia if you want to stay hidden when the world is looking for you and you're in the hinterland of Norway?), the way Alexei insists the fuel is going to last all the way to St.Petersburg, not letting the girls be right, his obsession with Natasha being part of the Avengers but also insisting that the Western powers are evil and cannot be trusted or the way Alexei tells the story of his father peeing on his hand (I swear, I've heard multiple variations of that story from my grandpa). Even the way Natasha and Yelena interact as sisters - it's so perfect. I loved loved loved this movie. It was amazing. I suppose that many people couldn't really pick up on the Russian cultural cues and details but to me, it meant so much to see it all like this. Even though I don't really connect with that part of our family history, I felt really touched by this movie. Also, yes, Siberia has a long history of having prisons and labor camps - not just in the MCU.

I really didn't like how they introduced Taskmaster. He's an entirely different character in the comics, with his own backstory. He's a mercenary for hire and had established several institutes to train criminals, so it would have made more sense in this movie if Dreykov had been Taskmaster. Comic book Taskmaster even has a daughter named Finesse who has the same ability to learn from observing. Olga Kurylenko should have had an actual role with more lines and showing her face. Considering the costume, they could have had her do all her work in two days of filming and just put a stunt double in for the rest of it. Considering how good an actor she is, it was an absolute waste to use her in a role like this one.

For the most part Taskmaster is Andrew Lister, you can tell in most scenes. It would have been funny if Olga had some more speaking lines because she's probably the only one there who can do a convincing Russian accent :)

I agree that Taskmaster felt wasted. With his abilities it would have been way cooler to see him fight more of the Avengers. They could have made a much better secondary villian if they had gone a different direction and made better use of the daughter as a character.

@@thedeepfriar745 what I hope is that they use taskmaster in the future. In a way that the protocol still exists and could’ve been copied so that the actual character can be in the mcu. It wouldnt be aligning with the comics but it would make sense to use it that way🤞🏽

I'm taking Yelena's continued survival in the face of explosions to her face as evidence for my theory that people in the MCU are just overall more resilient than in the real world.

"Are they just f**ing fine? That's crazy." Yeah that was something I didn't like about this one. I know it's the Black Widow movie, but she's not supposed to be indestructible. They treat her like they would treat one of the other more physically powerful characters instead of having her action correspond to her unique talents. The beginning scenes with the family's escape had me riveted because it felt like a human drama, but by the end of the film, I was a little action fatigued instead of engaged like I should have been.

One interesting thing in this movie is in the fight scenes Taskmaster actually does mimic moves from other characters in other movies, such as some moves from Black Panther and Spider-Man and the "Ariana" knife drop-and-catch that Winter Soldier uses. So they really did take some extra time in the fight choreography to go back and try and match characters that Taskmaster could have conceivably studied at some point.

I still can't figure out how Julia's character would've known if Clint may have killed Natasha, even though he didn't. Like did she go meet red skull on vormir or something?

The one thing this movie _needed_ to get right - Yelena - it did. Most characters in fact I think were well handled, if Weisz or Harbour show up in the MCU again I'd be happy to see them... even this Taskmaster _could_ be interesting to see again. But the movie as a movie was far more superhero than spy, more than was good for it I'd say. I know a lot of fans aren't very interested in the grounded, Winter Soldier-type part of the MCU, but if you're going to make a Black Widow movie you kind of have to accept that you're making a spy movie, and that it's going to be pretty dark. They tried to skirt around that, and the movie is lesser for it.

@@KillahMate 100% true your comment. I was just saying that, since you said the Winter Soldier style doesn't cater to the majority, the majority has started to notice how good WS is and now I see everybody listing it in their top 5 so it's not as uncommon as you think, I think

While I enjoyed this film a lot, I do think it suffered from trying to be too many things at once, as well as coming too late in the MCU release schedule. I think most people agree that Natasha should have gotten her first feature much earlier; I'll go a step further and say that she should have gotten two (or a mini-series and a film). One installment could give us the Black Widow spy thriller, the deeper look into Nat's history with the Red Room, maybe Budapest/her early S.H.I.E.L.D. days?, and a few hints/flashbacks re: her make-believe family. In the second, we meet the gang in the flesh as they reunite, team up to take down Dreykov once and for all, and Nat passes the torch to Yelena.
