@@ademozkum2716 Jackie Chan did do acrobatic stuff, but he didn't really do parkour in that way. The guys who so called 'invented' parkour had a certain discipline to what they were doing and always figured out how to run/jump/land etc. to get to places where you usually can't and actually make a thing out of it. If we should credit parkouring to anyone, it'd be Georges Hérbert, basically inventing it in the very early 1900's, although, he saw it as a way to be more effective and mobile in a war.

Casino Royale is almost like a James Bond reboot, starting his journey from the beginning. So he's not drinking his martini yet, he's not driving his famous car yet, or using his famous gun yet. But over the next few Daniel Craig Bond films, he becomes the character we all know. And these four (soon to be five) movies all tie together in a way the other Bond movies don't.
@goofywarriorguy2439

Casino Royale is actually the very first book written about Bond (came out 1953), and so when they decided to finally make it into a movie they basically did the whole 'Origin story' thing where they show James earn his Double O status. So technically he is supposed to be younger in this movie than in all the other Bond movies that came before it since it's his origin story, even though it actually takes place in the modern world. So like Mike Reda said, it's sort of like a Reboot but yet it's not really a reboot. Especially when only a few movies later in Skyfall (still Daniel Craig) they start talking about Bond being a Relic of the old world and past his prime and physically can't pass the Double O requirements anymore cause he's an old fart. So in only 3 movies he went from being the fresh new Double O who's pushing boundaries and inventing himself, to becoming the old geezer who should be retired because he can barely keep up anymore.

@@goofywarriorguy2439 Well it was four years between the release of QoS and Skyfall. If that same amount of time passed in the Bond-Universe then that that is plenty of time for Bond to have other missions to damage hos body. Then in Skyfall he was gone long enough to be declared dead, and all the drinking he likely did in that time (on top of getting shot and falling off a bridge) would have messed him up even more. If the films take place in the same years they release, then Craig's Bond was a 00 for six years by Skyfall. Bond's job and lifestyle would be absolutely torturous on the body.

@@goofywarriorguy2439 the producers of the Bond films didn't even own the rights to Casino Royale for decades. It was originally bought for a live TV drama in the 50s. It starred Barry Nelson as Jimmy Bond. Peter Lorre played LeChiffre. Then when the Bond films took off, the studio that owned Casino Royale new they had something special. They tried to get Connery to play Bond in their film. But he was loyal to the Bond franchise producers. A musical note. This movie was about Bond becoming “James Bond 007”. Normally the Bond theme is played throughout the movie, but in this one you’ll only hear a few bars of the theme when he’s doing something extraordinarily “Bond like”, like when Vesper shocks him back to life. When you think you’re hearing the Bond theme it’s actually the song Chris Cornell wrote for the movie which admittedly takes musical cues from the Bond theme. It isn’t until the end of the movie when James has fully become “James Bond” that they play the full theme song.

Even tells him, “until I know you know who to trust go stick your head in the sand.” At the end he doesn’t kill the Intel source like a blunt instrument. Speaking of replacing white men with black women, I just saw that they now made a black Batwoman, no idea how that went under my radar, I can only assume it's because those kinds of fake Batman spinoffs and replacements are not popular or successful. It's a actually surprisingly faithful adaptation of the book as well. Obviously they've updated certain things (the game being changed from Baccarat to Poker being the main one), but for the most part it closely follows the same story as the novel beat for beat. In fact this was a rare occasion where I read the book before I watched the film, and so I was completely shocked when I got to the part where Le Chiffre captures Bond, and realised that they were actually going to include *that* scene. Likewise, I got quite a thrill at hearing Bond say "the bitch is dead" during his phone call to M, considering that was the very last line of the book, and as later instalments show, he wasn't quite as over Vesper's death as he initially appeared

Okay, 1st of all Bond invented the "Vesper" before meeting her, he just didn't name it. They say so in the movie. Second, The Vesper _is_ a shaken martini. They just abridged it for the original movies because "Martini, shaken not stirred," is more catchy and less of a mouthful than the whole recipe for a "Vesper." But also because, and a lot of people don't get this, martinis are traditionally made _with_ Gin. And not that it matters, but you're not supposed to shake a martini. It makes the ice break down into slush and dilutes the taste of the liquor. Angry Cocktails did a video on the Vesper, for those interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHe3kGmrpaqgZsU

Personally, I feel this isnt the best place to start for Bond. This movie deconstructs the Bond formula rather than embracing it. IMO, a great place to start is Goldeneye. It is a nice blend of Bond cliches and high octane action. Plus it has Sean Bean. @@thomasrichards6245 But, half the point of this film was that it was a re-imagined beginning. So, they set up the "Bond" we know and love for the rest of the actor's run as James Bond OO7. The point with much of this film was to see Bond as he began, before his OO status, before he drank a specially ordered martini, and before his clear cut "no feelings" with the ladies, rules that seem to define the character. It was so that a new generation could grow with him and learn his reasoning for being that man his is. Now we know what he was like before he was the cool and calm agent that he is today and what it took to get there. Now we know that he may order his drink the way he does because it affords him a reason to watch it get made or even remade, so he knows there's no poison in it. And now we know why he is the way he is with women, because he let himself miss the signs as a woman he was willing to change his life for, died in front of him. And depending on how the latter films are (were) made, then we should get to see the agent OO7, James Bond that previous generations came to know and love.

Her dialogue in the dinner scene is fascinating. She says, "You've got a choice, you know. Just because you've done something, it doesn't mean that you have to keep doing it." On the surface, she's talking about Bond being an agent and killing people, but the subtext for her is she's talking about betraying her government and by extension, Bond. She's already in love with him, and she's having to deal with the realities of her situation. It was easy for her to betray her government when it was just a faceless institution, but it's much more difficult for her now that she deeply cares about someone personally victimized by her betrayal. By saying that Bond still has a choice in what he does, she is also saying that she can choose to stop being a traitor. But she can't quite convince herself, which is why she's so adamant that Bond can change; it's not really about whether Bond can change, it's about whether she can. Bond returns with a quip about people who can't take advice being the ones who always give it. This startles Vesper because, like the scene on the train, he can see through her. He can't see completely through her; he doesn't know what she's struggling with, but he can see that she's driven by something. Vesper is so rattled by Bond's insight that she's put on the defensive and answers his question with a question of her own, sidestepping the issue. Bond brings the issue back to the forefront by revealing how much he's able to see through her, and saying that he'll never know what's driving her. This is a perfect opportunity for Vesper to come clean and tell him everything, but the opportunity is lost. She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor, Vesper is kidnapped, then Bond is kidnapped, and then she is forced to make a deal to save Bond's life by giving up the money Bond won in the tournament. After that, it's too late for her. She can't tell him her situation because the people she was working with would kill Bond. So they continue to fall in love, but she knows the relationship is doomed. Her only hope is to die and pay for her sins against Bond. She knows he'll hate her forever, but his hatred is worth it if it keeps him alive. She loves him more than she values her own life.

He may be flawed but he is an amazing spy, a ruthless soldier and a true classy guy. Also, James Bond Theme used to play in a beginning of each film but here it's in the end when he says his iconic "Bond. James Bond" and *becomes* Bond we know. The whole film is a journey to that moment and, overall, a sad f*#&ing story about him, people around him and his job. I hope to see No Time to Die someday. What's important to keep in mind about Bond is that while technically a hero, he's not really a _good guy._ 'Antihero' isn't a good description - more like, an asshole who's on our side. Martin Campbell's first Zorro movie (The Mask of Zorro) is one of the best swashbucklers ever made. Up there with Princess Bride and The Curse of the Black Pearl, imo. _Definitely_ worth a watch.

As a cocktail aficionado, I can tell you that the "shaken or stirred" question relates to the base liquor in your Martini. You shake a vodka Martini in a cocktail shaker with ice, and you stir a gin Martini. Bond favors vodka over gin, so that's why. These reasons have been debated, but that's the best explanation. If you shake a gin Martini, it "bruises" the gin, meaning it becomes cloudy when what you want is a crystal-clear Martini. Bond, like his creator Ian Fleming, is a heavy drinker, and Fleming went into a great deal of detail in the Bond novels over how his cocktails should be prepared. Fleming, through Bond, created the Vesper Martini, just like in the movie.

"I don't understand poker!" Fun fact, in the novel they play baccarat. They changed it to poker to avoid the majority of the audience being in the same boat as you and not having any idea who was winning or why. "He's a terrorist... there's got to be another way to stop him than playing poker!" I mean, yeah... the movie has something of a plothole in that once they all commit their funds, they have to show up to keep playing or forfeit. (Bond barely makes it back to continue.) So really, as soon as the game was underway they could have just drugged/abducted/arrested the guy during a break and even if nothing else happens, as long as he misses the rest of the game he loses all of his money and his chances of paying back the various terrorists and then has to take the deal with MI6. But that's not as interesting of a movie. As for other Bond movies, I suggest watching one from each of the main actors who have played the role. The Pierce Brosnan choice is easy: Goldeneye. His best entry, and also his first as the character, and coincidentally also directed by the same director of Casino Royale.

Lazenby is obviously easy to pick one movie. Dalton is reasonably easy since there are only two and The Living Daylights is far better than License to Kill. The hard part is picking one movie for each of Connery and Moore. I suppose Goldfinger is the archetypal Bond movie especially for Connery, but I prefer From Russia with Love. For Moore, maybe The Man with the Golden Gun, for sake of Christopher Lee if nothing else.

Hey Nat, I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it to you, but the big mythology behind James Bond is that in order to have a double-zero number assigned to you, you have to be an orphan. That's so that if you even get captured or killed, there aren't any sticky entanglements with your family. During one of the Pierce Brosnan James Bond films, there was a rumor that they were going to have Sean Connery make a cameo in the movie as James Bond's father...until someone familiar with James Bond pointed out that that cannot be. And, when you die, they simply promote the next orphan behind you, and give them your old number. That is kind of the hidden meaning behind the beginning scene of this movie. Daniel Craig does not start out as a double-zero agent, but ends up getting promoted to one. It's also used as an explanation on why different actors were used over the decades - it is assumed that that old James Bond simply died and was replaced with the new one (keeping the formal name, too). It was Ian Flemming who invented the character James Bond, but the character was originally based on Ian's own experiences, as he (and several other famous people) were secret agents during WWII, and during the Cold War.

@@chiboy2968 Yes, Pierce was an excellent Bond but some of those movies were tragic. I don't think I can ever forget the helicopter flying slowly forwards at ground level with its blades nearly vertical so as to try to chop Bond up, and all I could think was, you used to do real stunts in Bond films, like barrel roll a car across a river, not fake garbage that ignores physics entirely. Of course, even back then they stretched the friendship with physics a number of times.

There are 24 (with a 25th out soon) Eon Productions (Albert R. Broccoli's company now run by his children) Bond films starring 6 actors (Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig). If you count the non-Eon films, there's three others starring two other actors. The first was the CBS Climax! (television) production of Casino Royale starring Barry Nelson as the *American* agent James Bond made in 1954. In 1967 with Eon having never acquired the rights to Casino Royale a rival studio attempted to lease the rights to Broccoli but failing that decided to make their own spoof Bond film starring David Niven as Bond. Finally in 1983, there was Never Say Never Again made by Kevin McClory (who thanks to litigation over an unfinished movie project with Bond creator Ian Fleming ended up with the film rights to the novel Thunderball and milked it for everything he could) and starring former Bond Sean Connery. That means there are 24 (25 later this year) official Bond films starring 6 actors or 27 (soon to be 28) films featuring a character called James Bond starring a total of 8 actors.
