The reason Vision can pick up Thor's hammer isn't because Thor shocked him. It's because he's 'pure/innocent'. He has no hate, pettiness, selfishness or self-righteousness in him. He's worthy.

"The Vision...how did he get that name?" When Thor came in to keep cradle thing going, he said he had "A Vision", with that stone at the centre of it (Or something like that), I think there's a throw away line where Vision adopts it too, or maybe it was when Vision based his look on Thor? Age of Ultron gets bashed a lot. Yes, Black Widow's subplot is woefully misjudged and Thor doesn't do much except set up sequels, but I really like lots of it. Wanda and Vision are great, the party sequence is great, the dream sequences are cool, I love Hawkeye's development the Hulkbuster, Ulysses Claw. Making Ultron quippy is controversial but I like the groundwork for later conflicts laid here.

Yeah this movie is jam packed with all the ingredients needed to put the MCU on the right track. I think it's okay to just accept that not every movie is going to hit on all levels, and I wonder if they even sort of intentionally knew that they'd have to sacrifice a little bit of coherency to set up the future of the MCU. There's a lot to love in this movie, and it's too easy to focus on the stuff that was awkward. But it set up The 'planet hulk' vibes, it set up the House of M vibes we're getting in Wandavision. It setup the civil war. Lots of love to the fans in here, like you said. Hulkbuster armor made my day when i saw this in theaters, I was cheering. Hawkeye finally got some love. And they really showed how powerful Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are, even if they had to kill off Quicksilver (Damn rights war between Marvel and Fox.) I feel like this movie is a turning point for comic book movies.

Also, after some repeated watchings, I really appreciate what James Spader did with Ultron; he made him creepy in a very honest way, because he behaves like a child or maybe an adolescent. I agree with you here both on the weaknesses and the strengths of the movie. Widow and Banner together is nonsensical and without chemistry and Thor is wasted (and really confusing) but the plot of the movie is solid and there are good action sequences. The introduction of Wanda and Pietro is well done, and Spader's Ultron is a one of the best performances in the MCU.

Age of Ultron has its issues, it's biggest being that it has to set up everything to come in Phase 3, which is why Thor's vision quest is so forced in. But it has a couple of moments I really love: 1) the party at the beginning where they all try to lift the hammer is such a great bit of camaraderie and much needed letting these characters be people together. 2) Spader is fantastic as Ultron, and Bettany is amazing at bringing Jarvis and Vision to life. 3) The conversation at the end between Ultron and Vision is so good--easily one of my favorite moments in the MCU. I know a lot has come out about Whedon being a massive prick on set as a director, but setting that aside for now, it is interesting that after this film he basically retired from directing until he was asked to complete Justice League. He said his experience on this film was awful as he lost a lot of control and had to force a lot of things he didn't want into the story. The only thing he's done of his own since this is an upcoming TV show called the Nevers, which he quite several months ago, pretty much right after production started, because he's still too burnt out.

Yeah The Last I Saw him, Ultron was sitting on him" when Pietro(Quicksilver) was on their side and he ran past and Barton aimed his bow at him, to "The City is Flying, We're Fighting An Army of Robots & I Have A Bow & Arrow, none of this makes sense" when talking to Wanda when she was freaking out, to "You Step out that Door, You Are an Avenger" again talking to Wanda, just some great moments, also love the scene where they are all trying to lift Mjolnir (Thor's Hammer),also the hilarious moment Steve says Language when Tony said sh*t, and then Tony making fun of him for it, also having the vision Wanda took advantage of Tony’s PTSD he had from the New York Battle with him seeing everyone dead and Steve telling him he could have saved them was brilliant

He had an outburst and severed Klau's arm; he kept yelling, petulantly, "leave me ALONE!" whenever anyone tried to stop him. "Oh I didn't mean t-...it's just tha-" (teenager snapping). Also as a teen he thought he knew better than his "fathers" Tony and Bruce, but concluded "ya know, with the benefit of hindsight...", as some teens would do when they get caught AND proven wrong yet don't want to be held accountable for it.
