If I was a victim, I would never do interviews. People will say terrible things. Of course she developed a relationship with her captor. He took her when she was a child. He was the only person she communicated with. People criticizing her because she lacked emotion. Her captor made her that way. He would get angry with her if she cried. This women will never be able to escape what he did to her and he’s dead so she can never tell him how she really feels about what he did to her.

I'd do interviews to raise public awareness. It's all well and good reading these stories and ignoring the message but she was snatched as a child. As a parent I find it scary but helpful.

Many people in Europe don't like her because she doesn't cry and show her deep scars. She is very strong. And it's mind boggling how she was able to rise from this hyper difficult situation as a strong women.

her story shows that whatever you do, haters are going to hate. It's the reason why so many women and men who are survivors of abuse/rape don't come forward. Because if you cause a big scene, cry, get angry, etc. people say "he/she is too much. Tone it down! Stop complaining!" But if you don't show your emotions, people don't believe you or think you're messed up... It's an impossible situation to handle, especially when you're in such a vulnerable position, where you couldn't possibly have the energy to defend yourself.

People always want someone to blame, some way to find fault, and someone to ultimately punish. The kidnapper killed himself and thus denied people an opportunity to dole out that desired punishment, and so a certain subset of paranoid, conspiracy-minded people (Like Il Tenore in this thread) will then turn on the victim and try to find ways to blame and punish them. Multiple investigations have tried to find evidence of other culprits/perpetrators/partners/compatriots, and have turned up jack-fucking-squat. Give. It. A. Rest. Grow the hell up, and let Natascha Kampusch live her life in peace.

I remember a group of journalists one time, debating about the possibility of her having been pregnant while she was captured. She didn't initially open up about having been raped (obviously because it's super hard to talk about this), but people always speculated that it must have happened, because what other reason what someone have to keep a young girl in a cell? Police had found a string of hair (that later turned out to belong to Natascha herself), but at the time people thought it could've been from a baby... So they assumed the baby must have died and debated whether she had a part in killing it.... which is sooo immeasurably offensive! (Even if there had been a child and it had died, she couldn't possibly have been held responsible, since she had no control over her own life, let alone that of another human being). What puzzled me most about this group-tear-down was that it was a woman who did all the victim-blaming and a man defending Natascha. I learned there and then that being female doesn't automatically make you an ally and that it doesn't even necessarily mean you understand her circumstances (oppression, physical and sexual violence, starvation, physical weakness and various kinds of abuse etc.). People are either compassionate, or their not, but it doesn't really have that much to do with gender. However, it was still shocking to witness.

You can see that a lot of what she does now, in order to heal, has to do with a bit of a rebellion against all the rigid rules she had to follow under Priklopil's regime. Being able to move freely in his house, touch whatever she wants to touch, sing loudly and make noises, experience her body in a self-fulfilling way, eat what she likes, etc. She's constantly breaking through the bondaries he set for her, which seems like a great way to compensate for the developmental arrest he caused her. She never got to spend the formative years of her life to actually shape her own self and she's kind of still discovering who she is, beside him. It's a necessary tool to build a strong sense of self to overcome this traumatic past. She needs new, diverse experiences to look back on, in order to not be forced to simply identify with the captivity and obedience that wasn't really part of her, since it was forced upon her and not her choice. I think this is really clever and a lot of people that have gone through traumatic experiences in their childhood could make good use of this. one other thing: reporters really need to stop referring to rape as "sexual approaches or contacts". There is a fundamental difference! If it's not consensual, it's rape. I take personal offense in this ignorance!

Seeing how people reacted to her being strong despite her experience enrages me. Just because she's not in a puddle of tears, people thought she was lying, and was even part of the scheme. Just because she didn't fit the proper mold society thinks a victim should be in, she was judged and humiliated. They are no different from her kidnapper; only in the guise of freedom. I am so inspired by this woman. I only saw her story today, and I am amazed at her inner strength even in such a tender age...and now that she's an adult, I still admire her resilience despite everything that is happening around her and the stigma society has placed on her head. Good job, Natascha.

she learned not to cry, she had to... she said that she wouldn´t be "allowed" to cry while bein captive, you can see in her interview from 2006, 2 weeks after being released, how she sometimes started tearing up but instantly snapped back into her happy face... at some point you´re just conditioned to not cry anymore, it just stops being a natural reaction, you unlearn it... I´m speaking from experience, I can assure you that your brain and body just find other ways to express emotion and those ways are never as relieving as crying...

She's a surviver and this is the whole point. If she wasn't so strong and if she didn't have this ability to be so thoughtful, brave and really really strong she wouldn't have survived all of this! Brave why? She endured what she sadly endured because she had no other option. I hate with a passion this thriving culture that idolizes victims and labels them as survivors, reducing them to a product of the terrible things they happened to live while making them into a sort of role models. It's stigmatizing and it's only a 'positive' disguise for the morbid inclinations of the general public and the sensationalism of the media.

Well think of it this way. Whilst being in the situation, trapped and forced we know, she still stuck through it. She tried to kill herself but never succeeded. And the aftermath shows us she's strong in a sense that she is attempting and trying to cope. She's getting help and trying to get better. That's inspiring and that are sign of a strong person. I don't see where you're coming from with all that, because all in all is the focus on Natascha and the fact that she's still with us here today, getting better by the day, and she's out there making a difference and telling her story. That is someone who is worth having respect for. The persons comment you replied you were also just paying his respect for Natasha, I don't see the purpose on having that comment negatively loaded. Wish you a good day.

How disgusting and disgraceful that her own neighbors, community, country, and government treated her like that! Especially all the fake stories with no proof or evidence whatsoever. Unfortunately some people just want a story to sell regardless of truth or who it damages. You are so strong, amazing, and brave! We are all different, we cope differently and structure ourselves in ways that adapt to our circumstances in order to survive, no one should remotely question the steps she took to survive! That is no one's place. Know that you are loved and supported, even if sometimes all you can see are the negative people.

When a person has been traumatized enough or to a certain point, tears simply can not fall anymore. I experience this. Somehow, experiencing trauma on a consistent, constant basis actually forces you to become stronger than ever imagined because the only other option is unacceptable! Either you're a kind person or you make a choice not to be, it's innate deep within our makeup. When we're under serious pressure, what's really inside comes out, like a tube of toothpaste. People can be cruel, and it's evil! I admire Natascha for so bravely surviving her captivity and her social injustice! ❤️🌹

No one wants to be simply characterized by their traumatic events, when they are SO much more than that. Natascha is amazingly strong AND smart. I was amazed when watching this at how articulate and kind hearted she is. She has been very proactive in moving forward with her life and you can tell how eager to learn she is after being imprisoned from the outside world for so long AND in most of her formative years. how people think she was some how involved in her own assault and kidnapping when she was literally TEN when he took her is beyond me. it’s crazy how when people are falling apart others pray for them to be strong and get better, but when they see someone being strong they criticize you for now showing your emotion…he would ridicule, beat, and STARVE her if she cried or was in a bad mood or didn’t just in general do exactly what he said, so she learned to turn her emotions off. and she doesn’t need to breakdown in front of a camera (not that there’s anything wrong with that) to prove what happened to her.

She didn't want it... The government just gave it to her as they thought it was a "fair compensation". As you saw in the video, it does help her cope to come back to the house every now and then. And I can imagine it would help to actually see the place and know that all those years in captivity was real and not some dream. It gives her closure in a way to see it and know that she beat it.

I'm not saying she wants it,you didn't understand my comment lol. I meant that it's stupid that the goverment would think that giving her tje house of his kidnaper would be a compensation for everything she went through. They could have given her some money or a work or something so she could start over. But if that helped her, I'm happy for her.

So basically, because that suicidal maniac is dead, people have to direct their anger at her? How embarrassing for them.. Is obvious to me that whenever she has to talk about this, she goes into survival mode and when you do that, you automatically appear unaffected. I have had trauma in my life too and whenever someone asks me about it, I know I look and sound like an android and I see the confusion on people's faces. (I believe) She wanted it, so claimed it from his estate. I don't know the story intimately, but to me it makes *some* sense. She could be 100% in control of a place, where before she had 0%. And although unspeakably bad, she has 8 years+ of memories there, so it means something to her. The 'control' of it makes sense (to me) - as part of her own 'self-rehabilitation'.

The public mistreated this woman big time. There was a lot of victim shaming going on and also the people were harsh on her, when she started to put on some weight after her escape. She wasnt the beauty rescued from the beast anymore and people & the media hated that. I mean, she did, but how was she supposed to learn a healthy way of dealing with food when she was in constant fear of hunger from 10 to 18 years old? The same for emotional coüing? How was she supposed to learn a healthy way of handling her emotions when she was locked up in a basement for 10 years and got beat up by a psycho? But thats how the public reacted in the early 2000s. I was a bit too young to understand all of this.

She was kidnapped for 8 years from a young age. Its not like she had a sheltered childhood then suddenly went through some traumatic event and is being interviewed the next day. What happened to her became her life for eight years. It would've become rather normal for her. Why should she be a mess. I'm not downplaying what she went through. It must've been hell for her but all the people thinking she should be in tears don't seem to realize that she's had eight years under him where it probably started to feel normal. Probably even developed some complex bond with her captor and maybe even cared for him somewhat so her memories of those eight years wouldn't all be hell. If she didn't snap and kill herself during those eight years she sure as hell isn't going to be a blubbering mess ten years on. During those ten years her kidnapping is probably all anyone thought about when people met her. She would've told this story a lot over the years to a lot of curious people. She's not going to break down in tears every time she tells it.

These disgusting people all the way up to government. Shameful the way they treated her and the guy who stole her story was yet another exploitation. Brave smart woman. Shame on the rest of them and I hope they carry that guilt of how they treated her. I know she also dealt with alot on social media. I understand completely, why she gave interviews. Like she said: She wanted to tell her story herself. People who thinks they would be ok for years of lies spun around the world about your worst things that happened to you, would think otherwise if it would actually happen to them. It is a matter of self respect and the right to be heard. I salute her. I hope she gets all the money she can have from the deals. He is dead, this is the only way she can have any compensation for the _years_ she was held in captivity.

Shame on the state for not helping her and her family, and giving her the burden of the upkeep of her kidnappers house, that they gifted to her as "compensation". They even made her pay for the filling in of her own prison cell, which they themselves ordered to be done! What on earth were they thinking, for crying out loud? Grant her all the time she needs with that house, but don't make her pay for any of it, and let her be in charge of what happens to it! And shame on people judging her, and accusing her of those horrors. Show some respect and empathy, and admire her for her sheer strength and will to survive. Her coming out of that situation, not only alive, but as an intelligent and incredibly well spoken and well functioning person, is frankly a miracle. Thank god she has her friends and family! dear Natasha , ( this is a free translation of the comment below ) so that more people can read it) you are a truly wonderful human being, so intelligent, pure and sensitive. I love your command of language - nuanced expression. ( i am german but live in an english speaking country and your German is a joy). It is shocking to learn how 'spiritually poor' so called 'normal people' are in a society like Austria - that they chose to fall for all these crazy theories and judge you the very person that has been the victim. It is evident, it's a media ploy to draw as much money as possible out of your ' story' . However, you are working your way out of victimhood and you have done so ever since you were a child & teenager. i wish you the very best for your future - may life become easier for you , may you be surrounded by loving people - ❤️ by the way, your first book is extraordinarily well written and I will read your latest book as well - best wishes S
