The Zelda series was still young when it made the leap from 2D to 3D in 1998. After multiple entries, the team at Nintendo EAD set out to not only translate their iconic series to the third dimension, but craft one of the most important games ever made.

When I was about 9, my brother (then or 15) bought this game with his own money. We were not allowed to play the game until he had completed it, but watching him play it was just as exciting as anything. Apart from the launch game Super Mario 64, this was like nothing we had seen before. Everything was in 3D and more dynamic than ever. Me and our other 2 brothers watched the eldest play through this monster of a game and loved every minute of it, even if we couldn't play it ourselves. We rooted for him all the way and kind of played it together - at least it felt like it. I do remember his final battle against Ganon; we were all in our jammies, watching him tear down the dark lord himself. Guides were not a thing, he had to figure the whole game out himself, which he did. His playthrough is so ingrained in my memory, I don't even remember when I played through it myself for the first time. I do know that, once every so often, I replay the whole game and love it - but it will never hold the magic it did back in 1998. Not ever has a game held the same majestic grip over me. Its story, its characters, its groundbreaking technology for that time, the successful transition of Zelda into 3D, the soundtrack; everythingabout it makes it, rightfully, the best game ever.

These are the stories I love. I have a very similar story... but I was the older brother. I have 2 younger brothers and we all played it together. As you said No internet, no guides, no hints... just ingenuity, teamwork and alot of time. It is up there amongst the most important games of my lifetime.

I remember going over to my cousin's house and playing Ocarina of Time on the N64 back in the day, and then beating it all by myself on the Gamecube Collector's Edition port (which also had Majora's Mask, Zelda 1 and 2, and a demo for Wind Waker) years later. I've also played and beaten it on the 3DS. Such a classic!

Miyamoto isn't gonna be around forever. There is a 40 to 50 year old dev right now working his way up the ranks at Nintendo not realizing they are going to be the next Zelda great hope. Imagine what direction they are going to take the franchise.....toru osawa u talked about was major in kid Icarus and I heard he retired so another one down

My first experience with OoT was through the OoT/MQ disc on GameCube and I remember not liking it initially because Kakariko village just felt too big to me. It intimidated me and I wound up putting the game down for a few months. (For reference, I skipped the PS1, Saturn, N64 console generation only playing 3D games here and there at friend's and/or family's places; I wasn't fully accustomed to 3D games.) But then I picked it up again, entered the Great Deku tree and it was upon getting through it, solving simple puzzles like carrying an on fire Deku stick to light up unlit torches, figuring out how to break the webbed floor which led to another part of the "dungeon", etc that the game sunk its claws into me. And then the lore/backstory sealed the deal for me. It was one of the VERY few times I went online looking up any info I could on other's people take on the game's story. It's deserving of its top-tier gaming status.

My first contact with OOT was on the 3DS although I did own a N64 at the time. Better late than never I guess..

Great video. I was the same as you, I was young and was wandering around the internet, then I discovered whats a Nintendo64. Slowly by slowly , found out about OOT, then decided to play it on an emulator in 2012, finished the game. And now, a super fan of the whole Zelda franchise.

I'm really enjoying the series. Normally I'm a patient person, but I am eagerly looking forward to the next video of this series. You put out the first four parts a week apart, now you have come to a screeching halt and I'm curious as to why. I'm not demanding anything, just curious.

The 3DS version made the final battle lame. The super dark nature was half the power of that fight.

Except for Sony did take them down.🤷🏻‍♂️ I know as a Nintendo fanboy you all may not wanna admit it, but PlayStation won that console war easy. It wasn't even close either, it was a massacre. Just like the next generation console war. I love Zelda, but I hate Nintendo. In fact, if it wasn't for Zelda, I'd never fuck with Nintendo anymore & I grew up in the late '80s early '90s at the height of Nintendo's glory. I loved Nintendo, my generation grew up with Nintendo, but Nintendo refused to grow up with us. They stayed a kiddie gaming console, which is one of the reasons why I can't stand Nintendo. Also because all Nintendo is now, is one big ass gigantic Mario rehash console. Ask yourself this, when's the last time Nintendo released a brand new console selling hit exclusive original IP? You Nintendo fanboys are delusional in the way you all just ignore this fact. If Sony or Microsoft did this, you'd rip the shit out of them & rightfully so. But when it comes to Nintendo you're willfully ignorant & just give them a pass. How would gamers react if there was as many different types of God of War, Ratchet & Clank or Uncharted games as there is Mario? I love these videos you're making, but you should really leave your own biases out of it, because it makes you make stupid statements like earlier. Just some constructive criticism for you.👍🏼😎
