In the late 1980's, the north american video game market was dominated by Nintendo. Many tried to dethrone the king, but only one ever gave it a run for its money: Sega. In part one of this series, we take a look at the origins of the Sega Genesis and how Sega went from a small upstart console manufacturer to Nintendo's biggest rival.

The 90s was the true consoles wars. You had Sega fighting against Nintendo and later Sony jumped in to battle Nintendo as well. I would say it was the golden age of gaming.

It was a classic competition event though I wasn't around to experience the war between Nintendo and Sega. These days it's a lot more complicated between who's fighting who and honestly there's so many games these days that I don't particularly care for either side.

The 16-Bit War between the Super NES and Sega Genesis was as legendary as the Monday Night War between WWF and WCW. There was also a time when both Sega and WCW beat Nintendo and WWF a few times in a row before the latter two makes a successful comeback and eventually won the war.

I always make that comparison as well. WCW during their prime is my favorite time in wrestling. Somehow with all the talent in the world they let the ball slip and WWF started to destroy them in the ratings. The Sega vs Ninteno thing is more complicated because Sony took Sega's target market and then some. I think without the Playstation Sega would have handled Nintendo on the home console front. The Saturn would have had 2 years on the market by it's self. Would have dominated 3rd party sales due to being CD based and Square probably has to move to Sega without Sony. Sega laid the groundwork for how to beat Nintendo and Sony took that blueprint and excecuted a hell of alot better. So it's never been accurate to say Nintendo beat Sega. Heck Playstation destroyed both Sega and Nintendo. The Playstation outsold the N64 4 to 1 and then the PS2 outsold the gamecube 7 to 1. Nintendo realizing they weren't going to be a player in a traditional home console sense. Adjusted and has found a niche with the Wii and now the Switch which have incredible sellers.

Love Sega and the genesis vs Snes was such a great console. Most people tend to forget that the war was between Sega and Nintendo not gamers fighting over who's system was the best. Sega went in on Nintendo do to Nintendo's dirty tactics they used on Sega. Nintendo went as far as to try and keep Sega's master system out of stores and telling 3rd party devs they couldn't port their games to the master system.

The war isn't over! Too many folks still believe the Genesis had way better sport games, but NHL '94 and Madden '94 onward are fine on the SNES. And then there's ISS Deluxe, NCAA Basketball, Ken Griffey, Quarterback Club, Striker, Stanley Cup, Super Tennis...

I'm not sure if you mean the graphics enhancing color-enhancing Blast Processing (which was never used) or simply the higher processor speed (which did help with crowded games). But none of the best Super Nintendo sports games have slowdown: NBA Jam, NBA Live, Ken Griffey, ISS: Deluxe, NHL '94/'96, Madden/Tecmo/Quarterback Club. I won't move on until these untruths are remedied : )

Nobody mentions slowdown or slower frame-rates in the SNES when it comes to those games. Yes NHLPA '93 and Madden 92/93 were smoother on the Genesis, but since '94 things were even. Out of the master system and the Sega megadrive... The Sega megadrive has much better graphics and music. The master system the music sounds really distorted and the graphics look blocky
