One of the nicest experiences I had at a restaurant was at a Cracker Barrel in Bristol, TN My mother was dying and I stopped in after the hospital visit. The waitress was so kind and I sat there and cried and she listened like she was my best friend. It was late so not too busy. When it came time to leave, she said, "Honey, a couple overheard our conversation and paid your bill. You don't owe one thing." I left her a hefty tip and took home a wonderful memory.

7th Grade English teacher here. Nate was curious if he could change the font of anything into the Bionic Reading font. I wanted to let him know that there is font preloaded on his Kindle for those with dyslexia. Go to the settings page, pick out ‘font’, and you will see ‘OpenDyslexic’ on the right-hand side. Students in my class say that it really helps -- even those who don't have dyslexia. Love the podcast. It has saved many a drive home after a stressful day of dealing with middle schoolers. When we saw you at Stand Up live in AZ, my wife noticed he was looking sad sitting all alone at his meet and greet table while Nate’s line was around the corner. She went up to him and bought a CD (even though her car didn’t have a CD drive). Breakfast Ball was so excited he gave her 2 for the price of 1 and took a picture. Interesting tipping strategy employed by a childhood friend’s grandfather: Whenever they got to a restaurant, he would lay down ten $1 bills on the end of the table with no explanation. As the meal went on, if the server made a mistake, was too slow, etc, he would take away a dollar. It was basically a game show that the waiter was a contestant on but they had no idea. And the grand prize was $10. It didn’t matter if his bill was $2 or $200, the max they could win was $10. Love the new addition of Dusty to to the already winning lineup of Nate, Aaron, and Bad luck

What a great show!! My wife and I both had restaurant background. I was a line cook, she was a waitress (server). Dusty's tent story had me crying I was laughing so much. He's such a good addition to the show. Also I'm with him and his view on tipping. I used to have to tip out 2% to the kitchen and 1% to the bartender so when people didn't tip I was literally losing money on that table. And to Brian's question, I thought the most annoying thing to be asked was "what do you recommend?" I have no idea what their taste is like, what they dislike, if they're in the mood for pasta, meat or whatever else... then I give a few recommendations and they choose something completely different. (I was also asked by a creepy guy if I was on birth control and then he proceeded to tell me I should go on his boat sometime... So the creeps were also super annoying.) Anyway, I really loved this episode! It was very relatable.

Thanks for making Wednesdays more fun y’all. Pumped about Dusty!! Lastly, I could be alone in this but tbh-instead of putting the comments up on the screen, I’d rather be able to see your reactions as Nate reads instead of reading the comment on my own (wayyy ahead of Nate, bc dislexia). I'd like both- maybe just have it as a banner at the bottom of the screen. But I bet that would involve too much editing to make it worth their time. :) If it was closed-captioning, it would try to spell out what Nate is saying (which might also be funny) and not the actual comment. I like to see what the person said so I can compare what's coming out of his mouth, haha!

My first job was at a Chilis restaurant as a hostess. We were supposed to check the restrooms every once in a while to make sure they weren’t messy. One night when I went to check the women’s restroom, there was a football-sized chunk of feces sitting in the toilet. Pretty soon a bunch of employees were coming in to see it like it was a circus attraction. There was no way it would flush, so the manager made one of the cooks pick it up and carry it out to the dumpster in a trash bag. All these years later and I still think about that woman who must have suffered some sort of life-long injury that night, and the poor cook who definitely didn’t get paid enough for the cleanup duty.

My first job was at a Chick-fil-a, and I absolutely hated it. Most of the people I worked with at the time went to the same church, and I did not. Because of this I think the managers who were in charge of making the schedules wanted me out, and they slowly widdled my schedule down to one 3-hour shift per week. Needless to say I left very quickly after that, and I refused to go back to that restaurant for years.

The rule of thumb I always go by: If you look down at a menu to order, tip. If you look up at a menu to order, no tip. There may be exceptions, but that’s the general rule.

I grew up in the small town of Georgetown, Kentucky and my Grandma would take me to eat at Fava's, a local diner, every week. They had hand-dipped ice-cream and we once we ordered a cone and I watched the waitress with my own eyes lick the cone to keep it from dripping and then walk to our table and hand it to us.

😵 I worked at Dairy Queen. It was actually my first job, and I was not aquainted with the chocolate dipped cones yet. When I opened the can of dip I tossed the thick layer of wax into the garbage. I thought it was like the wax jams or jellies have on top (olden days). I got yelled at, but they picked the wax out of the garbage and melted it all in the chocolate. It's what makes the coating stiff, but who knows what that wax is made of???? Another job I had I was in the lunchroom talking with co-workers about canned food. One lady said she gave it up when she found a human finger in the can of string beans. 🙄🤧 I guess an episode about restaurant kitchens might be triggering!🎉

I’m sitting at Texas Roadhouse with my wife as I write this. A waitress just handed a man his food at the table across from us and he asked if she would come check on him in 15 minutes. She looked very confused and asked him why and he said “cause this food looks so good I might need you to come check my pulse” we both instantly thought of nateland and how y’all said people always use the same jokes. Have you ever heard this terrible one?

Well I thought about the nurse.... How did he know she wasn't fibbing to #1 gross him out so he'd stop, and then feed other french fry lovers or pets or whatever.... 😂 I mean everyone's doing the same thing? Don't they get dirty salt shakers there?

I wish five year old Aaron would have been brought to my line when I was a gas station cashier in the early 2000s when I used to run two registers and the lotto machine at the same time because our district manager was so cheap he would not let any store managers have more than one employee work each shift. Prior to doing all the registers at the same time lines would be 20+ people long. I personally felt good about it but I never had anybody taken aback like Aaron. At least that I knew about. I can only imagine the satisfaction I would’ve gotten from the crazy reaction of a five year old Aaron witnessing my glory.

The only thing that bothered me was the one table that “stiffed” me on the bill. I chased them down in the parking lot. Management had to chase after me! 🤣🤣

100% agree, tipping is over the top now and I always tip at least 20% even for bad service.

Once you mentioned the new location of the microphones I was definitely distracted by how uncomfortable Aaron looked with the new set up. I am not a sound guy, but it seems like an easy solution to move the microphone and adjust it so they are both great for dexterity purposes and not in the way visibly. Nate, Dusty and Booster Seat all look comfortable while Aaron stumbles through navigating his laptop. What is the over/under on how many sodes it is before he knocks his mug over onto his computer.
