Nathan Fillion talks about the stress and bad coping he went through while shooting Castle.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Nathan Fillion (Castle, The Rookie) returns to the show this week to reflect back on tenured success across multiple serieses like Castle and The Rookie, along with cult adoration in Firefly and Serenity, leading us to discuss what’s next and what the escape plan is once his run in Hollywood is done. Nathan shares his secret for positivity in life and his freedom of being in a position to say no rather than taking roles out of need. We also talk about how adversity brings out one’s true colors, rumors of Firefly reboots, and his experience swimming with sharks.

It's just unfathomable to me that Fillion didn't get to play Nathan Drake in Uncharted. Not only had he been great on that short film, but he conveys the exact energy, wit, and sarcasm needed for the part.

@@dahhous1575 ha! Long winded, maybe, but it certainly sounds like you're basing it on real articles, interviews, etc and not just some knee-jerk fan reaction. I worked on a LOT of television shows. Ended up with just over 300 episodes under my belt before I switched careers. Politics are everywhere and I saw lots of shows fall apart because people couldn't get along. It happens. I can confirm rumors that Nathan and Stana absolutely did not get along, but they were individually great people who treated everyone like family. Super rare for top of the call sheet actors on successful shows. I ended up producing a small thing with Stana around that time and she was wonderful.

That just means he isn't waiting around. All of those actors are on set during all of his scenes. Don't for a moment let them convince you they have a hard job. I grew up in Hollywood and my father was involved in the filmmaking process. Actors are very spoiled and as you can see they think working 5 days a week is tremendously stressful when they get paid insane amounts of money for their time, can stop working and enjoy their lives whenever they want to, and pick and choose projects with downtime in between. Not to mention they have people that can do or get them anything they want even when they're on set. They are very lucky

You could tell about season 5 or 6. I get the impression that Stana had gotten bored with her character. Wellll, I have to disagree. There was obviously some animosity toward the end. The last 3 seasons were not as captivating as the first of the show. Personally, after watching so many multiple season shows, they go on way too long. Far past the ability to write fresh content, tired and bored acting, and disinterested audience. They should end the series while things are still on the up. PS ...the ending of Castle was pathetic. It was an insult to the audience.

You all keep trying to dig for something that Stana nor Nathan wants to talk about. Despite all the rumors it's very possible that they reconciled and made apologies after the show ended and decided not to talk about it in the media. Sometimes you work with people and you don't get along. Adults forgive and move on. They both had plenty of opportunities to bury each other, the showrunners, & the studio but they've chosen to take the high road. Let them take the high road. Everything doesn't need to be exposed especially if it can be worked out behind closed doors. If they can look back fondly on their time on Castle then we as fans just need to move on and stop expecting or demanding that they do otherwise.

There are a lot of stories of the leads of shows having falling outs just from being around each other so often and things getting complicated. The stuff you hear about Castle actually remind me a lot of what you heard from the X-Files. Apparently by the end they couldn't stand even being around each other but have since made up and said that it was nothing either one of them actually did. So I'm not going to judge or make assumptions unless they come out and say something specifically happened.

You're years behind the discussion. I wanted him to do it as well, but Sony was stubborn and kept dragging its feet on the project. When people said Nathan Fillion was too old and then suggested Mark Wahlberg, I laughed and said he was the same age... and look what happened: Mark Wahlberg aged out and end up playing Sully instead (and unfortunately for us, he played Sully like all of his other "tough guy" roles). Nathan Fillion would have at least been able to pull off and provide that sarcastic funny charm to the role of Nathan Drake.

Short version..... be late season 2 he and Stanna were IRL dating and scripts were tight, by season 4 it was over and things were starting to get really bitter between them. In season 5 you can see the writers trying to keep them apart by paring Caste with Ryan and Espo more and more. By 6 it's really bad but scripts are still good enough to paper over a lot of the issues. Season 7 on it all goes to hell and they can't even stand being in the same room together. While Nathan and Stanna are both super nice people the tension was too much especially after the OG writer bailed.

I feel like the last 3 seasons of Castle behind the scenes were slowly becoming almost similar to the stressful/low pay environment on the 1993 Power Rangers show. They had a lot of problems that many people didn't know about The producers of Castle didn't give Stana what she wanted and simply screwed her over (alongside Tamala Jones). Still, Nathan in my view could have done more to salvaged things but again I don't have all the facts to back it up. So like everyone else, I feel both sides played a role that doom the show.

I forgot the catch phrase for describing it but, when you have shows with the two leads that are of opposite sexes, the energy can easily starts out and stay fresh and spontaneous but when they start 'dating', it becomes repetitive and stagnant and border line recyclable, case in point from other shows like Moonlighting, Who's the Boss, Bones, and Weeds. And to know that they tried to have one last season without Becket is like trying to get milk from a cow that you know has been dead for a couple of days ago, yes it's drinkable but it will leave a very bad after taste in your mouth for decades to come.

every job has its exhausting parts. i'm not even an actress and i can almost understand him. i'm a teacher and if i work more than 3 days in a row, i start getting tired, because ,as a teacher you spend most of the time standing up, you speak more than your students, you write a lot on the board, you "tour" the classroom constantly to check on students individually,. It's very theater -like.. and it does get tiresome after a few days.. i imagine it's even more so for actors, because they get very little time off during the day. Every minute of the day is calculated. They rehearse a lot (which means a looooot of talking), sometimes, they work more than 10 hours straight.. so, yeah, i can understand where he comes from. Being a lead actor, working 5 days in a row can get hectic, especially if weeks and weeks in a row with no vacation :/ However, they do get paid a lot, unlike teachers, so to that part, i can't relate lool

@@g.fredsimmons759 and how much per episode did he earn? $100,000? I worked 2 jobs for over 17 years, 6 days a week, 70 hours a week for a hell of a lot less. It's not shade, it's reality for a lot of people.

Not only are those days usually 12-14 hours, but acting is a fairly intense and draining process. You have to be emotionally on, and charged for hours at a time. Most people who work long hours can do it half asleep or with low energy, but acting is different. Not to mention then once you're done for the day or have a rare day off, if you go anywhere in public you've got people following you with cameras and everyone in your face. Sounds beyond tiring to me.

What's with the rumours? Castle ran for 7 seasons, then got renewed for an 8th, with both Fillion and Katic returning. Also, they both got a producers credit. That doesn't really scream trouble, or does it?!

If you recall they announced Stana Katic’s abrupt departure from the show shortly before they announced the show’s cancellation. Nathan put out a whole statement “congratulating” Stana for her contributions to the show. They also fired Tamala Jones, the only POC female actor on the show which is never a good look. You can tell by the sloppy editing of the final scenes of the last episode they rushed to film it because they had little notice when ABC cancelled the show. They thought they were going to be renewed for another season. They were planning to kill off Stana’s character and just continue with Nathan. Thankfully ABC did not let that happen. There was definitely major drama happening behind the scenes but who knows if we’ll ever get the full story.

@@therealmistahjay for the longest time I didn't watch season 8, based on the rumors as well as the fun slipping out of the series. That, and Season 7's last episode felt like a good conclusion to the series. Season 8 wasn't as bad as I feared though. It does veer into being extra silly, and larger than life, but it was fun to watch.
