I can't get enough of the wide angle views the drones provide. 50 years of surfing and I always looked for the wide shots that show the whole shebang. The old shots by Granny from way back by Sharks Cove were always my favorites. Even in the old days the heli shots were too tight. Now we see the NORTH SHORE the way it should be. The sunset shots were the perfect ending.

Man Nate that was a really good vid. I LOVE the outer reef paddle sesh, but I have really been impressed with your (kind of) classical music selections on a number of your vids over the last year or so. I am a music guy and your use of impactful, classical music in your vids has been beyond fantastic and so on point. It adds SO much to the impact of the video(s). You are the best, thank you ! Stay safe brother !

With great respect, Nathan, you have achieved top tier status. And without needing to follow competition schedules and commercial agendas. You will achieve senior status in due time. Between now and then it is your opportunity to achieve wisdom. To do so, it is available to you, and ultimately necessary if you are to realise your unbounded potential to make your public displays selective. Koa Rothman is travelling parallel beside you, the two heirs apparent. If you were to observe, study, observe, plan, observe, decide, observe, adjust plans and decisions as dictated by accumulated understanding, then execute the exact plan from the exact position at the chosen break, on the exact set wave type at the exact optimal tide and swell, you are in the position to ride the wave of the session, at every session, at every premier spot in the world. Wisdom is selectivity. Of course free surf yourself ragged for fun, but your own commercial persona is still a work in progress. It is yours to choose how it develops. Be more selective. Choose and construct your future remarkable achievements. You, and Koa, have that available to you right now, and very few ever do. However you decide, congratulations on your talent, dedication to pushing boundaries and monumental work ethic. The wisdom earned from maturing is the next level. Go hard, wisely, young man. Jb

Skis have changed the game as much as anything I can think of, like the first use of a fin. Waves that were considered unrideable were conquered by guys being towed. That encouraged paddlers to give those waves a go and expand the limits. It opened the whole world of waves. I'm old enough to remember when Waimea Bay was the spot while Jeff Clark had the ultimate one-man secret spot to all to himself, Mavs. Skis took water safety to a whole new level and facilitated the charge. Hat's off to all the Water Safety Angels.

You can learn a lot about the ocean and waves by sitting up on a hill overlooking a coast line that you surf regularly. It's amazing what you can learn by just standing or sitting and simply watching the swell hit the reefs and the way the water moves.

rad :) firstly, proud of you for charging paddle style. skis and tows are for chumps :) just kidding, but seriously, paddling is THE BEST :) also, i agree with Mahina, in that a 'contraption' is probably needed so that no more epic go pro footage is lost. i would guess that the footage you had was amazing and super rare. perhaps its time for you to team up with a successful leash company to develop the Nathan Florence go pro leash, for mouth mount, head mount, and board mount leash options. also, floatation covers for the go pros that even absurd massive wave depth hold downs would eventually let the device rise back to the water surface, and, on board glue / stick on go pro (and anything else you want / need) chips that can be tracked and retrieved with the drone and its special 'go pro' retrieval hook / arm / grasper thingie, full on bat man / bat girl / cat woman team style :) go pro gets pounded off the reef and smashed and cracked from a giant wave wipeout and lost and washed up on the beach or rocks miles down the coast with the tide? (would not happen because the nathan florence leash would keep that affixed to either rider or board (even board halves that are eventually retrieved), but if so, then no prob, a simple 'find my go pro' quick app search state of the art gps situation shows that thing bobbing in a tide pool 1. something something yards / miles away, fire up the drone, and go get it to get the sd card that even if the go pro is toast (less likely with protective buoyant casing, in a selection of colors including easy to see 1980s rad neon, then at least the sd card and footage is salvaged :)
