I will always love the corgis best. My corgi lived 14 years, and she was 100% the best sidekick I've ever had. She was so smart that she basically trained herself by watching me when I said things to figure out what I wanted, she was a great helper when my kid was a baby and was always dropping things, and she was a wonderful nurse with fostered kittens. I now have a corgi mix and a heeler mix. They're great dogs too, and I love them very much, but my corgi set the bar pretty high for any dog I'll ever have again.

German Sheepdog. Sloped back. While this difference may seem mostly aesthetic, it does affect the health of the dog. Most sloped-back dogs are bred for the show ring. Many people are somewhat worried about this “frog-leg” problem in German Shepherds, as it may be linked to some health problems. Furthermore, it doesn’t seem to have many benefits over a straight-back. Instead, it is mostly done to help dogs win competitions. What a shame!
@mavel20382 жыл бұрын
They're one of the only breeds in a 3 point stack, everyone else is in a 2 point. Put ANY dog in a 3 point and their back will slope. GSDs need angulation. They are not sprinters like most herding breeds , they are meant to have a floating floating and low gait. It conserves energy which is what allowed them to be living fences and run a line all day.
@youiswhoyouis33042 жыл бұрын
It's horrific, I agree. No need for their hocks to be on the floor. Does nothing but encourage hip dysplasia, nerve impingements, sores, and connective/ spinal issues. All the long-lasting working dogs are not built like this. Same nonsense they're doing with the brachycephalic dogs...😒🙄
@cindyrissal36282 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The severe slope to the hind quarters is just a stupid fad. It doesn't enhance the original function of the breed at all (mobile fence around the sheep w/ that flying trot). I wish the judges wouldn't pin the dogs w/ the worse crouches. They have the power to change those dumb fads...

Yes, it makes me so sad to see that. They took a great breed and basically intentionally cause lameness, painful lower back and hip problems. It should be banned, its about my favorite dog breed but would be scared to get one because of this. You can see the poor dog can't even run properly. There are a few breeds like this that the AKC should be held accountable for, dachshund, french bull dog, english bull dog, etc. Its borderline if not outright animal cruelty.

@titangamer17902 жыл бұрын
@@pattykake7195 Why they are shown in a three point stack that exaggerates the slope of the back is purely aesthetics/tradition. It’s just how GSDs are shown, but many working line dogs can appear just as sloped/angled as show line dogs when they are stacked the same way. They will typically never be quite as sloped; but there’s not nearly as drastic of a difference when the dogs are standing freely as many think.
@titangamer17902 жыл бұрын
@@pattykake7195 The idea behind the sloped backs in german shepherds is to affect their movement giving them an efficient trotting gait that allows them to move efficiently while spending less energy. There are two different main variations of this slope. The West German Showlines have an actual curved back that is present regardless of how they are standing. The American showlines, their modifications are more so in their leg structure. There the problem is they tend to have weaker hocks allowing them to get the leg structure closer into a right angle while standing stacked (the classic german shepherd 'pose'). However American Showlines when standing normally have a 'straight' back or straight topline, more what you expect when you see a dog.

All conformation shows should have a performance segment, where each dog most show they can actually do the tasks historically associated with their breed. The judges should be breeders of working dogs, and each dog should be given a numerical score depending on how well they can actually do the job they were bred for. Also, a vet who works with mostly randombred dogs should examine them for healthy they are, deducting points for any health problems shown, regardless of whether such problems are "characteristic of the breed" or not. Dogs should receive independent numerical scores in all three segments, with the dog who gets the highest combined score winning. That will do a lot to correct the harmful exaggerations that have crept into many breeds.

@@isabellepanza5679 I thought junior handlers compete only in junior handler shows?

@@isabellepanza5679 she looks to be a juniorhandler, they can be as young as 7-8, up to senior handlers 18

@@usosweethe junior, & senior handlers can show dogs in conformation , & any one can show a dog, often professional handlers may have a conflict , & need someone to show another dog that is in a class at same time,& junior handlers can help out .

I've never watched a herding group judging, and to be perfectly honest, I expected them to do competitive sheep herding or something. Like there'd be 50 sheep or something and the dogs would have to herd them.

I loved the Finnish Lapphund and Beauceron pups. All dogs in the show are beautiful. I love German Shepherds, but this one is low at the back- result of certain selective breeding. They are within the standard and look cool, but AFAIK it causes back problems later in their lives.

Glad to get to see this! The televised version went to a long commercial break just as the Herders started. I was waiting for the Malinois.

I feel like the Malinois always get short shrift at the dog shows, or thanks to to the networks. I can't wait for one to win someday!

German Shepherd dog is really not my first place. Their rear gear looks very low, I’m afraid they has problems with it as they gets older (hip dysplasia, immobilization of the rear gear…)
