I see their presence as a good thing. A lot of other countries don’t have something quite like The National Guard. They just send army regulars in with orders to shoot first and ask questions later. We should be grateful that National Guard units across the country were prepared to mobilize so quickly. When people are protesting police violence and *the police* show up and tell them to leave... that’s a bad situation. From what I can tell, people don’t get aggressive as much towards guardsmen, because the people protesting don’t see them as the problem. They’re doing a fantastic job and hopefully soon they can go home safely and get on with their lives.

They're just better for the job. Protests against police should not be dispersed by police. It's a brazen conflict of interest.

Yeah, I mean that's why Trump brought them in - to intimidate - but the National Guard took an oath to protect the Ameican people, not fight them. The nation is in distress because of the systematic violence against black people. These people are fighting for their rights and the rights of their fellow countrymen. When you have a statement to make, when you have a wrong to right, and it falls on deaf ears, I'm sure you don't just walk away defeated: you make a stand and demand that the situation is dealt with. The National Guard are not against the people. We've had them taking a knee alongside protesters, we've had their leaders speaking out - which is a VERY rare thing - in unwavering support of protesters flexing their 1st Amendment right! The source of the problem is the police force, and they have been mercilessly attacking civilians well before these protests began. I emplore you to take a look at the videos and articles clearly showing the level of aggression and violence the police are using against innocent bystanders and journalists. People are being shot in the face by police with rubber bullets. Many have lost their eyesight: they're shooting deliberately to maime these people. I have held and fired a rifle on many occasions in the past. With the distances these officers are shooting from, the fact these people are taking such grevious injuries is NOT an accident. Cops are taunting, goading, and provoking peaceful protesters. There are people in these crowds, and there are officers on the front lines provoking these riots in a deliberate and vile attempt to make the protesters out to be violent and unruly. That is not the case at all. And again, the National Guard see this. June 1st, National Guard in Nashville laid down their riot shields at the request of protesters. The presence of that National Guard IS helping - I fully agree - but it's not the protesters who they are keeping in check. It was a very different story when people took to the streets of Michigan to protest lock-down, and Neo-Nazis took to the streets of Virginia. There was no such police violence there. Why? Because these people were armed to the teeth. If the BLM protesters were out for blood, then why aren't they all carrying their own weapons? Why aren't we seeing police gunned down by the dozen? They could easily do it, it's their right to bear arms, and that amendement was made precisely for this reason: to fight the tyranny of those who oppress them. Yet the majority are not carrying, the majority are not opening fire on the police, because they're peaceful protesters, not voilent animals that need babysitting by the National Guard.
