Nato pilots train to intercept Russian aircraft in Quick Reaction Alert drills

Romanian Carpathian Vipers, assisted by the RAF's Typhoons FGR4 aircraft, have been taking part in reaction drills to intercept Russian aircraft as part of Nato Baltic Air Policing.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, pilots from Romania, Lithuania and Great Britain have been tasked with intercepting Russian jets that enter Nato airspace.
All pilots are prepared to react to QRAs (Quick Reaction Alert) which is a state of readiness and modus operandi of air defence maintained at all times.

What do you think the use case is for those F16s? I'll give you a tip, it's not Top Gun style dog fight as they will lose those valuable jets very quickly if they go anywhere near Russian jets or SAM sites.

@@meme4onethey will. It‘s the american gun lobby vs russia on ukrainian soil. This couldn‘t be anny better for the us, this is the end boss of american proxy war politics. @@meme4one the Russian Air Force can't even establish air superiority after a year against the Ukrainians. The F-16 is more capable than anything either side are deploying. Factor in the ex RAAF F/A-18s are still on the cards for Ukraine pending RAVN and they're eaily the most potent classic Hornets on the planet. Either is a huge force multiplier for Ukraine and integrates well with their newer weapons systems.

The thing I would worry about in any mid air encounter with Russian combat aircraft is being accidentally rammed by incompetent pilots flying equipment so badly maintained it often falls from the sky. Russia trying to be intimidating at this point is kind of pointless. If it did try and take on NATO forces it would not end well for Russia at all.

I love countries and cultures and I love when the world works together. I loved being in Europe whatever the cost and challenges it brought. The world needs to be a smaller more joined up place and Nato is now where I get my fix of countries coming together to do the right thing.

Nothing new though as since the cold war they had been testing our QRA times as we had done the same to them, trolling their scramble times by flying close to airspaces or if by sea then navigating through waters. Only stink is that Russia have the tendency to turn their equipment off in order to avoid detection...Which doesn't always work for them, especially when they're flying age old stealth aircraft which probably hadn't been upgraded since the cold war. One of these days though a Russian pilot is going to play the idiot card like they did with a drone and stir up a military response...I see them as the 16 year old Golf drivers whom have no care in the world.

Disgusting...those dilapidated F16 hand me downs set us back an insane amount. I remember in 2018 they couldn't event attend the national day parade in Bucharest because of "bad weather" ...funny how the RCAF F18s had no problem attending though

A lot of the RCAF F/A-18s are ex RAAF. The most potent classic Hornets on the planet and pending approval could still be transfered to Ukraine.
