Why exactly are women needed? Just to be more diverse?

"Diversity" is one of the most pointless things imaginable. Who cares about the gender, color, ethnicity or whatever of a soldier, police officer, doctor, firefighter or whatever as long as they're good at their job? We want *the best* people protecting us, helping us, saving us etc. Not the most diverse people. Whenever you start putting up nonsensical requirements like "You must be female" you automatically discriminate against everyone who doesn't meet that requirement, and in the case of looking for females you're discriminating against males. It's especially ridiculous when the job is highly physical as there's just no competition between the genders in that regard. A female firefighter coming in on a quota or lower requirements may result in you dying in a fire because she simply can't carry your ass out of a burning house or whatever. A female soldier likely won't be able to carry/drag a fully loaded male soldier to safety either. Requirements must be the same for everyone regardless of gender, color, ethnicity, sexuality or whatever. The requirements are there for a reason, and we shouldn't allow anyone who can't meet them to get the jobs just because "diversity" has become such a popular buzz word in recent years.

@@gnawershreth Eloquently formulated. A few special jobs require raw physical strength. But not this one. The job in question has very little to do with physical strength. It is all about avoiding and evading. If you have to use your muscle power you have most likely failed horribly at doing your job. And you will need serious help no matter how strong you may be.
