one of the biggest flaws of modern debate is that it is Debate and not Conversation. I think in high schools (at least in America, I can't speak for other places) place way too much emphasis on Winning. I remember part of the learning experience included debating a side you don't necessarily agree with with the goal of winning, even if you didn't believe in it yourself. it's absurd.
@trungduong4040

@@frecklefreckles I completely agree. I personally saw a debate in my university and what I recognised was that the students in the debate tried too hard to win or at least, appear tough and decisive. Instead of achieving knowledge and understanding, they seemed more interested, or they were probably coached to focus on strategies such as finding the flaws of the opponents rather than understanding the different points of view.

Body dysmorphia is a real mental disorder that need to be addressed more. Many people who go through great lengths and countless painful procedures to change their appearance may have it. It may not be a deformity but it is a mental health issue that people rarely talk about. Everyone likes to judge people for getting surgery but no one ever ask why they're that way to begin with.

i wish the conversation could shift from "everyone is beautiful and nobody is born ugly" to "sometimes you're just ugly and that doesn't make you less worthy of love and respect". telling someone who is insecure about their appearance that they're beautiful does absolutely nothing to help them overcome that, because the focus stays on appearance rather than their qualities as a person. if we could just take the power away from our external qualities and shift it towards the internal, i think everyone would be more relaxed. i don't always have to "look my best" i just have to enjoy life. go camping every once in a while with no mirrors anywhere, you'll be surprised to see how much better you think of yourself when you're not constantly reminded of your appearance or the pressure to look a certain way. it's kind of a pipe dream but oh well

Large glutes look good, because the glutes are used in running and everyday tasks, indicating athleticism. A big jaw for males indicates high testosterone. Muscles generally are attractive, but when a male is too muscular, your brain is designed to fear them, as you believe they are stronger than you. I am dark skinned Indian (a country where fair is beautiful for women), i am quite healthy and tall and also curvy, my nose is very big and round, my lips are small and not at all pink, my hair is rough and black... And i have lots of things that do not match this toxic beauty standard . But i love myself. I am just 15 and i have mastered the art of self love and i always propogate this. Many people call me ugly or buffalo everyday but it doesn't matter anymore because i love myself. All that matters is my opinion and i accept myself. I hope that all the people start loving themselves and do not have to go through mental and physical torture to mach themselves with the beauty standard. Thanks for reading. Have a nice day and love yourself!!

Edit: Yes, I do realise that men are judged for their looks and it can often be the opposite for them - they want to wear makeup but will be ridiculed for doing so. The truth is that there are multiple other introspective ways to deal with insecurities. Cosmetic Surgery does not fix the problem, rather the consequence. If you have a tendency to hate parts of your body, you'll likely do it post surgery too. I'm not saying all patients are like this but a good chunk of them are. The only thing that needs to be done is to work on the mind first, then once the mind has been fixed one can truly think about surgery. And I think you'll agree with me insecurities foster more insecurity which is precisely why I'm against surgery as a ready solution, I would rather people use it as a last resort

It's not about "letting people do that they want" , it's about making sure they are in the right mindset for happiness. For some people surgery is just another excuse for happiness just as chasing money fame etc... Sometimes happiness is in simpler things and one needs to be reminded constantly of that.

If only it was that simple. You're forgetting about the people who think they'll be happier after surgery and end up spending the best part of their lives and a lot of money chasing an unattainable dream. The thing however, is that the teachers have no say in changing the school system whatsoever. that’s the school system and state law who can change school itself. So doing this middle ground situation with teachers and students wouldn’t make any sense mainly because most teachers agree that the school system is whacky and bad but are in it because they love teaching and want to educate, alongside the factor of money.

This really shouldn’t be an argument. It’s really just personal choice. If you want surgery, go ahead. Want to look natural? Sure! Yes the industry can exploit people and can be toxic but most industries can. You should accept yourself, but if you want to get plastic surgery to make that acceptance easier then go ahead. We should be working to break down why people feel insecure about themselves to the point where they feel this is necessary if they don’t really want to get surgery. It’s a big thing that we need to look and act and be a certain way, so we should be focusing on that before fighting an industry that allows people to accept themselves (usually), like when they help reconstruct people who were in accidents or to help with confidence.

If your afraid of becoming the “2nd wife” because your wealthy husband might go off and find someone younger or “hotter” than you then I think the issue isn’t trying to get plastic surgery to compete, it’s the relationship...also you should not be competing with young girls when your middle aged. Everyone gets old and aging is beautiful. I’m not against plastic surgery but getting it in order to compete with a group you don’t even belong to doesn’t seem like a good idea at all

The sad truth is that wealthy men have all the options in the world. And if a girl married into that kind of wealth it would be kinda hard to go back imo. I'd likely do whatever I could to keep that position. It's really messed up...but that's kinda just how things are sadly. They could leave and find someone who loved them for who they are. But that person may not be as wealthy or as desirable as the men who have the option to get a new younger wife on a whim.

Striving for perfection doesn't come from a place of self-love. It's the people who never feel good enough who are trying to achieve perfection. A person who truly loves themselves and their body wouldn't risk the medical risks of getting cosmetics surgery, just to look better (temporary). Trust me, when you truly love yourself you don't care about society's beauty standards anymore. That's when you take action you live your best life, being your best self, giving value to society and stop caring about superficial things like beauty or other's opinions.

So true. People can accept the way they are born and others don't. We shouldn't shame people for their type of self love.

I really like how in this debate it’s so even like usually it’s so aggressive and argumentative but this is just so genuine and just a conversation and they understand each other and aren’t just stuck in their own opinions

All guys would react like this we never get compliments. With the work we sometimes put in getting a compliment means the world. When I get a compliment it lasts a month and validates my work.

i’m a guy and in the most objective, non straight perspective, women are more naturally beautiful than men feature and delicately-wise.

Normally there’s at least one person in these types of videos that just get on my nerves but everyone in this one just seemed so nice and genuine. Great Job!

I don't agree. The argument of the one with exaggerated lips was just horrible. Absurd and shitty in general.

@@DjVoldi19 she didnt come off as pretentious though. It's her opinion and that was her side.

I've never felt ugly or needed plastic surgery in my entire 24 years. I feel that I'm so pretty and there are people who'd make fun of me because I feel like that, but I feel so pretty and I love my face and body and I don't care what others say or think
