Natural Nail Care - Gel Polish Application and Removal - Step by Step Tutorial

Hi Everyone,
This is the first time we have ever used a natural nail to do anything on this channel, normally we extend the nail, using tips, acrylic or gel.
Some people are lucky enough to be able to grow natural nails, but even those people run the risk of snapping, By applying Gel polish you can protect your nail.
I am going to show you how to shape and prep your natural nail for gel polish application, but also i am going to show you the easiest way to remove gel polish.

Instructions:
1.Go to the video that you want to contribute closed captions to.

People saying it comes off so quick because it's freshly applied, whereas I think it's the opposite with gels. I find it's SO much harder to remove fresh gels than it is to remove gels that are a few weeks old.

They're most likely tinsel extensions. There are a ton of tutorials and places you can either buy them or get them done. Just look up "tinsel extensions for hair" and you'll see a bunch of listings :)

I can't stand the thought of buffing the Shine off my natural nail, my nails grow paper-thin so if and when I can actually get the free edge to leave the tip of my finger and grow longer I will avoid buffing Any amount off the surface like it's life or death. my nails are the thinnest and the softest you've ever seen, I promise! and they delaminate like a mother fucker! Same >.< My nails are SO weak, I can bend them back... and it hurts like a b... I always had to stack nailpolish.. like 10 layers (seriously) so they wouldn't bend.. Then I bought gel and now I only need like 3 thin layers... v.v Would be nice if they could grow strong on their own..

Izzie Larsson try supplementing with calcium and biotin. also vitamin e. I have brittle nails as well. those things help me. also treat your nails to weekly cuticle oil treatments. it really makes a difference. hope that helps.

Hey Kirsty. I need to find out more about the lamps we’re using. Mine is a 27watt 2 in 1 uv/led lamp with a 60/90 sec. choice buttons. Is that strong enough? Sometimes I pull the colour off when I wipe over with the residue solution. Could we have a video on lamps pls?

Barbara Alcorn I would suggest that your gel isn’t curing correctly. Perhaps your lamp is too weak or needs longer to cure?

Esther Cotter I use a hard gel on my natural nails for strength. It lasts a lot longer for my job too. I work in an organic chemistry lab and I use acetone a lot. Acrylic comes off much easier than the hard gel.

Great video. When I get my gel nails removed, my nails are always after it so sensitive that mostly everything really hearts. Is this normal, or are they doing something wrong? And if not, why does it get so sensitive?

I just spent $670 in urban graffiti gel polish top & base coat, nail prep dehydrator, the works and mine kept coming off in no time so thanks for this I will try again I know it’s user error except for the last person I did she kept putting her fingers in her mouth as soon as I would finish filing in it went, then after I finished buffing in it went so after I finished cleansing I said DONT out your fingernails in your mouth! I went on and was doing the other hand looked over and she was literally chewing on her nails in the previous hand! So I had to go back and cleanse again (I was using pure 100% acetone & 99% iso alcohol which may have been the issue? I will cleanse with your gel residue wipe off soon next time) but I had to go back and cleanse AGAIN when I finished the other hand but she had to taste that on her nail 😝! So I had to literally hold the hand on the nail desk with my hand to keep it out of her mouth then I used nail prep dehydrator and did her base coat had her put her hand in the lamp for 60sec while that was curing I was trying to get the other hand cleaned and dehydrated again because OFCOURSE she had it in her mouth! So as I finished that and base coated it I had her put it in the lamp as I went to grab her 1st cured base coated hand I looked up she had the darn hand in her mouth 😤! Then she said it’s sticky! I was like ofcourse it is it has base coat on it which has to be sticky to give the gel polish something to adhere to! Please do not put your fingers in your mouth again because the gel will not adhere properly! But I don’t think she listened I think every time I wasn’t looking she was chewing and this lady was in her mid 20’s! She called me a week later saying her gel polish was coming off and she had no idea why she had just been doing her regular activities and they all started to chip here and there I thought yeah you chewed it off no doubt! But I apologized to her and told her if she would like to try again I would redo her nails but could not make any guarantees. She said no I think it’s just my nails no one else’s gel has lasted this long she had been to every salon in a 30mile radius and their gels usually only lasted a couple days. I thought to myself and I know why! I wanted to say and have you ever gotten sick after a gel mani? Because you ingest everything I put on your nails twice! It was weird I mean who can lick a that was just nail covered in acetone, alcohol and dehydrator? She had sores around her cuticles she said from the cold but we live in South Georgia, USA it doesn’t get that cold here, she eats the living and nonliving cuticle around every nail it was the worst I have ever seen! I don’t charge to do nails I enjoy it as a hobby and plus I suffer from seizures, chronic migraines and nerve damage from a wreck so I’m not available often this making myself unable to be a reliable nail tech to people I just do family and friends this was a friend of my niece who begged me to help her. But I could only suggest some counseling I can’t make her stop chewing her cuticles I gave her a long talk about the chewing when she came in but she just sat listening chewing on her fingers as I described what could jalapeño if she kept on. Anyone have a client like this? What do y’all suggest?

I use gel polish on my natural nail. I definitely am able to keep my nails because of using the gel. They still break, I was wondering if there's any tips you could give to try to keep nails from breaking.

Hi April! First off be wary of the shape of your nails. I almost always have a hard square shape and shapes with sharp corners like that can snag and catch on things and can rip your nail. Gel overlays definitely do help keep the natural nail "stronger" and resist breaking, but its not 100%. Making sure to fill them in when you need to could help. Also, letting your nails get too long could actually cause them to break because the gel polish could be too heavy and put more stress on the nail. If you were using builder gel and sculpted a nail, then it'd almost be the opposite. And as always, your nails are nails, not tools so just to be very careful with them. Of course, people use their hands differently so what works for me may not work for you and I am not a licensed nail tech (yet). I hope this helps you!

Hi Kirsty - Could you ask the Naio Customer Service to address all the complaints about Stock Issues and Delivery Issues plz..... You do such a wonderful job and they are making you look bad, because they never have stock and are not delivering good Customer Service. Thanks for sharing this video it helped a lot☺... my problem is that my gel polish starts cracking within a few days(i dehydrate, apply a gel coat base, 1-2 layers of polish, use a uvlamp and apply a gel top coat). Is there anything that i can do to make them last longer?

I used to use the foil for removal but then I discovered nail pegs....clip that stuff on your nails with the clips and it's removes gel in under ten mins and they're inky a quid from amazon
