The most recent song (in their catalog) you've listened to is Subdivisions, I think, right? That's 1982. You gotta move into the later catalog. They made music for 40 years. I mean, I know the early classic stuff is great, I love it too. But you gotta get the fuller picture of their career. Something from a more recent Rush album? It's really interesting for comparison to the older, classic stuff. Something from Snakes and Arrows or Clockwork Angels? Far Cry? The Anarchist?

I believe the warble effect you mentioned was meant to simulate a jump into hyperspace. The song lyrics are divided into three sections: I Tidal pools II Hyperspace III Permanent Waves In the Hyperspace section the lyrics begin with "A quantum leap forward In time and in space The universe learned to expand" The timing shifts from standard 4/4 time to 7/8 time after the warble effect, and the music is reflective of the journey through hyperspace. Great reaction video, guys!

If you haven't watched YYZ Live in Rio, that's a must watch. There is a reason that crowd is so amped...1st, people in Rio are huge fans...2nd, they had just witnessed the drum solo. If you search KZbin for "RUSH in Río - Leave That Thing Alone and YYZ", you'll find it. Please do a reaction to the another cool instrumental & a drum solo sometime. Trust me, you'll love it.

Listen to any of the Yes bangers, especially off of “Fragile” and “Close to the Edge”, and you can hear the inspirations for this Rush song - sounds of water and nature, hard driving bass, key changes, excellent drumming, high tenor voice, etc. Give one of these classic Yes songs a listen and you will hear the inspiration for yourself!

A little tidbit of trivia.... that is Alex Lifeson's favorite song to play in concert. And one other recommendation from that album. "Jacob's Ladder". It's one of my all-time favorites from Rush. Very progressive. Very compositional. VERY GRAND! It's almost like a rock version of a piece of classical music. It has alternating time signatures and builds and builds and builds and is just a ton of epic in a single song! Seriously, it's an awesome piece. I'm so glad to see a new generation getting into all these songs that we've loved for years. Oh, and FYI, Neil does write the lyrics, but they go through Geddy for approval. Neil's rewritten a lot of lyrics based on Geddy's sentiments since Geddy is the one who has to sing them. Sometimes they're brilliant, and sometimes they struggle a little.

I've watched all your song reactions to Rush and it's really interesting you haven't delved into their "synth" phase. I think you should dig into something off "Signals" or "Grace Under Pressure" - I can suggest some of the lesser well known stuff like "Countdown" from Signals or "Kid Gloves" from Grace Under Pressure. It would really be interesting to hear your views on something from either of those 2 albums as it definitely took them in a different direction immediately after "Moving Pictures" etc. I loved your reaction vid to Tool not long back too, was really interesting to hear your views on them. Keep up the good work lads, always nice to see my youtube bell with a "red" notification and it's a new one from you guys :-) Peace and keep on Slappin Da Bass

@@nthdegree1269 Yeah, I remember getting Signals for my birthday and thinking "this sounds a fair bit different" - though I did like it a lot - but I liked GUP more, it was darker I think and had a bit more in terms of depth.

Gotta be as missed as any great song ever. Right in the middle of what could be Rush's greatest album, just a slightly different style, and got hugely missed. Not only a great, great song, but a new genre that just went over most heads.

That was fun, guys. Natural Science is one of the Rush greats, for sure, and it gets even better on subsequent listens. You'll hear something new each time. I could see you getting tripped up on the time signature changes. But after 2 or 3 listens, you'll expect them, and then can focus on the words, the bass, the drums or the guitar, each separately spinning off into incredible grooves. There's so much there to hear. Cygnus X1, The Necromancer, Hemispheres, The Camera Eye - all good, long, complex works worth your time. Keep it up!

Limelight was not an opener or an encore for Rush's tours in the 80s (at least). Usually, it was played at the end of shows, (incl shows I went to), and 2112, YYZ, Xanadu, and La Villa Strangiato were encore songs. Still one of my favorite straight melody Rush songs. Rush didn't even play Limelight at all for the Grace Under Pressure tour.

@@andrewgarin2486 It's all good. I'm into setlists of bands and why they arrange like they do. Rush kept to a pretty close assemblage of songs for most tours. That is why, for some unknown reason, they didn't play limelight for the GUP tour. Limelight trails YYZ and Tom Sawyer as all time most played songs off of Moving Pictures.
