God gifts everyone with beautiful talents. We don't all have the same talents, which gives each of us a unique place in God's vineyard. Sometimes, we use the words "gifts", "talents", and "charisms" interchangeably, but... charisms are truly something different. Something supernatural.
Today, Fr. Mark-Mary and Fr. Columba define and unpack the nature of charisms for us, and illuminate the incredible gift that they are to us from the Holy Spirit.

I have Intercessory prayer, I think. Prayed rosaries for two lukewarm people, then months later they became more fervent. I was astonished to say the least.

@@stingingnettle9726 Living chastely…maybe? It’s also my charism, and it doesn’t work on people whose hearts aren’t ready to open up. I have a sense in me that tells me a certain person needs my prayers, I do it, and get results. It feels like a longing. When I pray for someone, I think about them like St. John the Apostle and myself as Jesus on the cross. You might not have Intercessory Prayer. You could have other charisms. It’s like they said at the workshop I was at. If you go to a hospital testing if you have healing and everyone you prayed for gets worse, then you probably don’t have healing.

Me too, I thought everyone has intercessory prayer? After all, doesn't He always give it unless it's really, really bad for you/them?
@jouzelfeather-pelt7686

@@KittyM- It has to be according to His will, yes. Getting people closer to Him will always be His will. God will listen to you and pour grace upon the people you pray for. The problem is, as Father Columba says, people have their umbrellas up. They need to have an open heart. Intercessory Prayer is different in that you are in a sense told who to pray for and then God will tell you when you are finished until someone else pops up in your life that you need to pray for. I think you also get faster results too. Also with charisms, you have to enjoy doing it. It can’t be a chore for you. When I pray for someone, I think about my love for them which makes The Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet exciting. Side note: it is also believed that St. Therese of Lisieux had Intercessory Prayer when she prayed for the man who was going to be executed.

Hi friars i experience the connectedness with music especially when Fr. Gabriel sings. You can see his eyes shine like the stars and his face light up. I remember watching him sing praise and worship songs during lockdown 2020 in Bradford, and it brought tears to my eyes. I have the gift of complaining.🤣 I'm sure it's not what St. Therese meant by her little way.🤣 God bless.🙏🙏

This is very interesting and it manifests in many ways. I minister to people as they are passing away. I recently was with someone and at the end the nurses and doctor were amazed at how I brought peace to the dying as they crossed over. They said I had a gift. I had never thought about it that way. Would that be a Charism?

Is “wanting to know God” a charism? In my college years, I studied theology and it was sooo interesting and now, years after graduating, there are times when I’d be so sick of God like “you keep telling me what to do what not to do” but there would always be this “itch” like ‘hmm what is the philosophical foundation for the trinity?’ then id go back to God Like a child playing in the mud and God calls me and i just reluctantly go “(sigh) okay… im coming”

Not sure what my charism could be. I don’t think anything I’ve done has ever deeply touched or inspired anyone. Maybe I don’t have one (?)

So what do you do if you have an extraordinary charism, such as prophecy?
@jouzelfeather-pelt7686
@jouzelfeather-pelt7686 11 ай бұрын
Prophecy is a tricky one. You can’t experiment with it out in the world because God will tell you something when He wants to. For me, prophecy is good to have, but as St. Paul says, it doesn’t work with unbelievers. When I speak prophecy to those of the faith, they are intrigued and are astonished by what has been revealed to me. If I go out to the secular world I’m probably going to have stuff thrown at me.

Billy Graham had a charism for calling souls to Jesus. Every time he spoke, the Holy Spirit would bring hundreds of people to the front of the auditorium where they would ask Jesus to come into their hearts and lives. If each conversion is a miracle, then he was the instrument for mass miracles on a regular basis. That's what a priest does in the eucharist, right?
