The gift of knowledge also perfects the virtue of hope. Aquinas doesn't state it explicitly, but it can be deduced from the nature of the gift as he describes it and clearly matched with the virtue of hope, given its formal motive. It's listed this way in the works of 20th century Thomists, especially Garrigou-Lagrange. That way, each gift is seen as perfecting one of the virtues.

My personal experience of the Holy Spirit was of energy flowing into my heart and then going through it to my spine and into my brain. When it reached my brain. It replaced all of my negative emotions(sorrow, sadness and despair) and infused my brain with complete positive mindset of God's Confidence and Complete Peace of mind. I was praying for my friends and asking God why they had such difficult lives to live and go through life with such emotional hardships that can't be cured with financial means. I was praying and asking myself am I doing this so they will like me more? Am I doing this because I want them to be better and wanted to know the overall why(of their difficult lives) and get an answer? Yes, and so I stopped praying for them because I wanted something for them and I really started to focus and trust in God. I then in my mind let go of wanting anything from them and letting go of my needs and wants and just simply trust in God. I let go in honest trust of God and I was falling in my mind as I was letting go. I let go completely and then God Caught Me and Infused me with the Holy Spirit. I felt this energy flow into my heart and like I said before it went into my heart and then back into my spine and went up into my brain. I felt the Holy Spirit and its Absolute Confidence and Supreme Positive Energy in my Brain for at least an hour. It is not the shaking with electricity but it is eternal energy flowing into your heart and then electrical brain and giving you the Supreme Positive Mindset and Positive Confidence that God has all of the time. It is internal and you couldn't tell unless the person told you so. I never feared for my friends every again because I knew that God had answered my prayers and gave me the confidence to not worry about them every again. That God was going to take care of them and that was God's answer to me for trusting him. I was relieved and remember the experience so vividly that it's like anchor of a such a deep life experience that I forget it and then think back to it. I think how dumb am I to ever question God, but after 25 years after I still get angry and question God's overall plan and I wish that everyone can receive it and get it Weekly, Monthly and Yearly. It would transform the whole planet and people here on Earth would live a more positive life.

It is plausible that the gift of wisdom is linked to the virtue of charity. King Solomon received his gift of wisdom after asking to be empowered to rule. He had the common good of the Israelite people in mind and not his personal power. The same can be observed in the case of the prophet Daniel, who received the spiritual gift of insight after he had stuck to the Jewish faith and its dietary laws under the threat of death. Even before that, however, he had a natural gift for insight into worldly things. So, it seems to make sense to work at least initially on one's virtues of the soul, which are more controllable than spiritual gifts.

What is the origin of Thomas’ doctrine in the gifts? I know St. Augustine speaks of them in his book about the Sermon on the Mount, but I do not know earlier witnesses to the gifts playing the role Thomas has in mind. I’d appreciate any texts on the topic.
@ThomisticInstitute3 жыл бұрын
St. Thomas was original in how he developed his theology of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Here's a new book on the topic: www.emmausacademic.com/publications/2018/5/18/the-love-of-god-poured-out In STh I-II, q. 68, a. 1 St. Thomas intimates considerable controversy about some basic matters. He cites several texts from St. Augustine among other sources. (One text of Augustine's that he doesn't cite is still quite worth a look: On Christian Doctrine 2, chap. 7, nos. 9-11.) Another important source you could look at is Father Edward O'Connor, C.S.C.,'s appendices on the Gifts in the Gilby edition of the Summa. In that 60-volume Summa, find vol. 24 (on STh I-II, qq. 68-70). Appendix 1: Scriptural Basis (pp. 80-87); Appendix 2: The Fathers of the Church (pp. 88-98); Appendix 3: Scholastic Thought before St. Thomas (pp. 99-109); and Appendix 4: The Evolution of St. Thomas's Thought on the Gifts (pp. 110-130). People can debate Father O'Connor's interpretation, but he gives an important rendering that can be helpful. On p. 130, O'Connor gives a chart of the three stages of Aquinas's teaching on the Gifts (Scriptum on the Sentences, STh I-II, and STh II-II).

Every living creature possess the qualities of it's parents. 1.Jesus was born to Mary, Mary was born to Hannah but God has no parents. 2.The physical make up of Jesus and Mary is flesh and bones, Lord is not. 3. People has seen Jesus and Mary, no-one has seen lord almighty. 4. Mother Mary is dead Jesus will die but Lord almighty is eternal. 5. Jesus and Mary both prayed to lord, The lord almighty is worthy of worship. All these qualities of Jesus makes him a human being ,Jesus the Son of Mary Not Son of God. Read the holy Quran a guidence and light from the lord almighty for those who fear. Know your lord know peace.

Jesus has been existing from eternity together with God the father-from the first monologue in the scripture when God says ''LET US CREATE A MAN IN OUR OWN IMAGE...'' At some point in time, for the sake of salvation of humanity, God saw that it was fitting for His Son should Enter time and space, when He took upon himself the human nature for Mary and become like one of us and died for our sins according to the prophecies. The incarnation and Death of Christ are some of the Mysteries of faith that we Christians profess because God bears witness in them, though they are beyond human mortal intelligence to grasp. According to the sacred scriptures and tradition, any one who is in heaven is considered to be alive and not dead in response to your statement that Mary is dead.

First we do not receive Jesus, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit in us it is only the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is OF Jesus and the Father. It is called Jesus in us, us in Jesus, Spirit. Second grapes on a vine are not immediately there! So it is with Fruits of the Spirit. We don't immediately do works either, but the are expected in our walk. It is possible to die after receiving the Holy Spirit and God the Fathers light ( which connects us to Jesus ) and never do a work. Or fully grow fruit of the Spirit. The Vine and the Branches 15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other. In these verses we find Jesus is the vine with God the Father in him. We are the branches with the Holy Spirit in us. The Light of the Father comes from the Father to the Holy Spirit in us. Through this connection we can talk to Jesus and he can talk to us. The light also flows out of us. ( this little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine). We are to stay in the light and grow. If we fall out of the light we must repent and return. Staying in the light makes the Fruit of the Spirit grow. Gift of the Spirit we can pray for. We may not get all. In the New Testament, it describes the ability to distinguish between spirits as in 1 Corinthians 12:10, and to discern good and evil as in Hebrews 5:14. The Holy Spirit gives the gift of discernment to enable certain Christians to clearly recognize and distinguish between the influence of God, Satan, the world, and the flesh in a given situation.
