In the next installment of the Jurassic World comparison series, we take a look at one of the most interesting and unique entries into the franchise: Therizinosaurus! Therizinosaurus has been one of the most heavily requested animals for me to do this kind of video on and I'm very happy with the final result. After the overwhelmingly positive reception of the last video on Giganotosaurus, I'm very happy to continue this series for all of you guys to enjoy. Let me know which animals featured in this video were your favorites! And like last time, for a chance to win a copy of Prehistoric Kingdom, comment #Therizinosaurus in the comments below. Next up on the list: Dilophosaurus!

Regardless of how accurate the design is, I really did like the depiction of Therizinosaurus as much more vicious and territorial than the other herbivores in the franchise. A much appreciated breath of fresh air if you ask me. Ngl, with its aggressive behaviour, blind eyes and creepy sound design, I actually found it scarier than any of the carnivores. How about a video on T. rex or Pyroraptor next, please?

I’ve been a dinosaur nerd my whole life and when I saw the Therizinosaurus finally on screen, it was really exciting. I also connected that it’s blindness and it’s “if it moves, it’s a threat” kind of behavior reminded me of the anteaters of South America, Jaguars don’t often mess with them as anteaters essentially swing their claws blindly at anything in their territory, they do a splayed stance as a warning and I like to think the Theri’ did this in life as well. Wonderful video! The animation work is beautiful and I can’t wait to see more.

@@Wobkerer Oh? Im curious, what about it did that for you? It’s a dinosaur I didn’t know very well myself so the inaccuracies that stood out in the others wasn’t very prevalent to me. That and I haven’t seen many mainstream depictions of it before JW and series like Prehistoric Planet also brung it to life in a way more accurate way. The Jurassic series to me was what introduced me as a child to dinosaurs, though I learned later it was highly inaccurate, I took it as “Well, these are monsters made in a lab…not real dinosaurs.” And that changed it to being a fun experience to see them as such in context with the movie, given the controversy surrounding Dominion, it was the most notable scene for me as it was pretty much what I entered the theatre to see.

The Therizinosaurus in JWD may not have been the most accurate depiction of the animal, but I won’t lie that it was awesome to see this incredibly bizarre dinosaur appear in the JP franchise, as well as more mainstream recognition. I personally like both the feathered monstrous design from the movie and the accurate reconstruction, at the very least it’s better than the “Joker” monstrosity that was the Giganotosaurus.

It’s still sad that they claimed it was scientifically accurate while looking far from the real animal. Like seriously, all the “accurate” prehistoric animals from JWD have feathers and that’s it, they don’t even look like the most accurate depiction of the animal they represent.

The blindness of the Theri could also contribute to the aggressiveness of it, as the creature cannot see it cannot exactly know what's a threat or not, so everytime it hears something it would either think it's be stalked or something else is going on, which would make it's fight or flight instincts kick in and it would attack whatever the threat is, just a random thought

I like that the movie didn't portray Therizinosaurus as another harmless herbivore, but I think that might be because of its large claws and history of being mistaken for a carnivorous dinosaur. If it didn't have those huge claws, then the movie would've portrayed it like how they portrayed hadrosaurs, which is disappointing.

@@FacuGonz3 I know, I'm just saying the Jurassic franchise tended to show all herbivores as peaceful and gentle, the only herbivores shown being aggressive had obvious weapons like horns, claws, clubs, and spikes. @mattsworld5354

In my opinion, I think the Therizenosaurus blindness could be a result of an infection, the genome being broken while it was being made, or a genetic defect of some sort, with the Echolocation of the animal being it adapting to its blindness. But, the DNA with birds using echolocation is a valid guess, and I could see it work out.

Well we don’t actually have evidence that they couldn’t stab and in my opinion they could. When you think about how they stemmed from raptors, which do use their claws for stabbing. Why would that adaption go away when they could use it for Stabbing and scratching defence and bringing down leafs (maybe impressing mates). Plus the claws may be thin compared to some other claws but they actually aren’t that thin and thin can still be durable and sharp. The main thing that could make that scene not possible is how thick giganotosaurus skin was, not therizinosaurus claws.

I’m writing a story about Therizinosaurus so this should be helpful for that. JW is a double-edged sword for paleontology fans. It’s nice to see lesser known creatures like Giganotosaurus and Therizinosaurus getting screen time, and seeing new creatures in the video games, but the creators are very inconsistent with how accurate the creatures are. Newer ones tend to be not too far off, while the older ones like the raptors and Rexy are still stuck in the 90s.

Maybe not the most accurate iteration, but it was still better than expected, nonetheless! I’m just happy for my favorite dinosaur to FINALLY be getting some love in two mainstream grand productions this year! Love me some #therizinosaurus

Jurassic World's Therizinosaurus is pretty cool despite its inaccuracies. Though Ark (surprisingly) has a more accurate design.

Have yet to see Jurassic World Dominion but, they made Therizinosaurus blind? That seems like a rather odd decision, is it the particular individual in the film or is it the species in general in the Jurassic World universe? Great video btw, almost forgot to say that. Been loving your content for years now, let's go 50k!

It's like blind in one eye, as it can clearly see but is very short sighted like a rhino

It’s most likely just in that individual making it in the entire species would be a weird decision though I’m not 100% sure

#Therizinosaurus is one of my favorite theropods and dinosaurs overall, and as much as JW:D’s wasn’t perfect, I think it fits perfectly in the franchise’s world while also being fairly representative of the core aspects of its real-life counterpart

There are some other inaccuracies with the jurrasic world dominion therizinosaurus. The legs are a bit too long, the tail is a bit too long, the neck is a bit too short, the posture should be more upright and it lacks a pot belly. It seems like the person who designed the therizinosaurus said 'let's get rid of everything that was unique and special about the real therizinosaurus except for its long claws' . Well at least it's better than the horrific monstrosities that are the Jurrasic world/park giganotosaurus, dilophosaurs and velociraptor.

In Jurassic World’s defense, they never suggested that they were scientifically accurate. Dr. Henry Wu said “Nothing in Jurassic World is natural, we have always filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals. And if the genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different.”

6:06 update, a study published on the use of claws in basal maniraptorian coelurosaurs using finite element analysis of the claws of therizinosaurids and alverezsauroids and mapped out their functional space to show their claw functionality in stress bearing tasks. This determined that derived alverezsaurids would have been efficient at digging and more basal therazinosaurids such as fulcarius had arms adapted for piercing and pulling to pull branches to feed on vegetation and all other therizinosaurids showed signs of functional use in scratch digging, piercing and pulling at vegetation, implying a use similar to ground sloths such as megatherium, but therazinosaurus' claws would have been too fragile to undergo any significant stress in forms of combat, foraging or other such uses. It instead argues a use for display both sexual and as intimidation and that it's claws served the same evolutionary role as the antlers of megaloceras, and may have also been sexualy selected for in a similar fashion.

I learnt of this dino from the anime Dino King, yes, I loved it, the "Echolocation" might be a possibility if the Theri has been blind for some time, after all, they tell us that the dinos on biosyn were many times, rescued or trasported from other places, so there is a chance that it was born with sight but lost it

I doubt the claws were that delicate in life; as you’ve pointed out the Theris’ arms are well suited to high stresses, and are powerfully built. So it stands to reason that the claws would be put under the same stresses. Is it possible the claws bear more similarities to a Rhino horn, than cat/dog claws?
