Hello guys, if you do have that $400k cash, just remember to check with the marina if they allow for live-aboard and also the monthly cost to have the yacht there, plus all other fees - which are a usually extremely expensive for a boat that size.

The Foruno is a fish finder and shallow water depth finder, the Wesmar Omnicolor Video Sounder is a deep water sonar that uses color changes to indicate different types of objects and seafloor changes telling you if you are over a rocky formation, a soft muddy ground, underwater objects like trees, boulders, etc and gives indication of fish 🐟 schools and their sizes so you know what is going on under the boat as you are doing deep sea fishing 🎣. BTW, "Poor Richard" (the name of the boat passing by) was Benjamin Franklin and the name he used for his "Poor Richard's Almanac" that he printed.

Thanks for the detail Kevin! I used to be a tech at Wesmar in the mid-70's just off Lake Union in Seattle, WA. That video sounder--very high tech compared with the mono-green sonar of back then. @@kevinfleming9919 I thank you for that information. I'm a bit of a dinosaur I guess because I'm a firm believer that if a manufactured product still performs its intended purpose well and you have a need for the service then keep it! I'm against upgrading equipment purely for the reason of having the latest version of everything. I figure that we already have an enormous e-waste problem so why should we add to it unnecessarily? Besides, we live on a planet of limited resources so why should we assume that said resources will never be scarce? I know, I'm the consumer economy's worst nightmare! 🤣😂

Why would you want 3 strangers living with you in what amounts, square footage wise, to a smallish house? You end up being the de facto guest, and you have to manage what is essentially a small business. I would never own a boat I couldn't handle single handed. The joy, and the peace, of boating come from independence, solitude, and self-reliance. If you want a crew: charter.

Wow. This is a fantastic layout!! Honestly, if someone wanted to upgrade in any way to bring this pretty close to a more modern spec, there is not a whole lot needed to get to a level quite close to perfect. What a beautiful vessel to use as a live aboard!! Love the crows nest controls!! How cool is THAT!!?? This is literally a ready built home that would feel comfortable right on move in, right?? The only things to seriously consider would be the cost of operating this monster. But if you want to live on an actual yacht and not just a cramped boat you could easily save a…..”boat load” of money, lol that would easily cut deeply into the cost of actual purchase of what would be a multi million dollar vessel to get similar accommodation in a newer version. Really nice.
@Bass_attack7755
@Bass_attack7755 2 жыл бұрын
Cost to operate usually is 10 to 15% of cost per year. However that's a new boat estimate. With an over 4k gallon fuel tank you can estimate cost to fuel easy. Maintenance can be a crap shoot. Considering it's got over 2k NM range it's not too bad. Efficiency isn't built in for an old boat. Fuel back then was way cheaper.

If you travel, this area xwill be their home too. This yacht has class. I would love to live aboard this yacht. I could go on and on, after 40 yrs,my wife will testify to that. Love your channel. Your on line tours are thorough and well thought out. You make a fine couple and are great hosts. I have been a subscriber for a long time. This is, by far, my favorite of all the videos you’ve put out so far. Absolutely gorgeous vessel loaded with class and character, and just an overall quality machine. I’d be very curious to understand the maintenance cost of a vessel like this. To buy it is one thing, but to maintain it… well, I suspect that’s what might turn some prospective buyers away. For those of us who are new to the nautical life, it would be extraordinary if you guys could discuss maintenance costs on some of the vessels featured in your “affordable liveaboard” videos. Cheers and best wishes.

This is perfect evidence of how much we value new and shiny things. What would a comparable 90 footer built in the last 5 years cost? You two are a stellar couple by the way. A solid woman and a man who deserves it. If ever one of my friends seems jaded I’ll just tell them to watch you guys. To help restore some faith. If you ever come across more gems like this please let us see it as most of us are probably more able to get something like this and it’s depressing to see the 30 footers with no space sometimes haha. 💙

What an awesome boat. Almost 39 years old, and looks almost new. Love the overall layout, not much would really need changing, mainly just personal preferences etc., but what a steal at $400k. Nice range on it too, great if you ever fancied a longer trip. The next owner is going to enjoy it for sure.

Sure, with a boat like this, with a crew, you have to plan on spending something like $100,000 - $200,000/year. If I understand it correctly, the rule of thumb is 10% of the ORIGINAL purchase price/value per year.
@Chalto
@Chalto 2 жыл бұрын
@@barrysaiff8475 fair enough on the associated costs, but you'd also have similar costs on a new boat, except you'll have paid a few more millions of dollars up front for it, and how many years of ownership & enjoyment of this vessel would one get before they eventually caught up in terms of overall costs, including the considerable loss that almost all new vehicles have the moment they leave the dealership etc? I'd wager it would be at least 8-10 years, likely more, and by then one might be considering one's next boat. Then there's the possibility that whomever buys it, actually wants an older vessel like this, because they prefer it's style etc., much like with older cars & motorcycles. If one has the 'spare' money to do any of this, I hope they enjoy it. Someone might even buy it just as a nice place to live, which again is likely a heck of a lot cheaper than most waterfront properties.

Just seeing the exterior of this thing its seems better thought out and structural quality than a lot of more expensive and modern vessels. That upper control station would give you a great way of threading that vessel through any shallows fish or whale spotting or assessing any low bridges. Apart from the radar and Nav kit theres not a computer anywhere beyond you phone or lap top.. so its fixable without diagnostics software or dealer ties. Just straight mechanics and electrics. This is a ship....and was built to last beyond fashions and be lived in and on by familly and crew or an extended familly crew, both having equitable civilized conditions and good circulation and access. 😎 I wonder how it would have looked pre refit. There is a maxim that says one should never follow fashion too closely... anything thats so ugly that it has to be changed once or twice a year is clearly a mistake, propigated by the misguided or the exploitative.😉 BTW ...was that a flash🤭 back there 😉 playsuits are more practical for dashing around in and still look like a short summer skirt.. but im not complaining😁

@@citetez Maybe but Florida, the IWC and European waters have quite a few that you might have to wait for them to open or pass under. Hence Dutch barges and sailing vessels often have folding masts. High bridge deck vessels are also more effected by windage.

Purchasing a quality used boat is the easy part, finding a place to keep it in my opinion is the challenge. Then the issue of monthly docking charge vs the port you want to be in. Low price can be ghetto marina. A private dock, no marina social life. Don’t even get into diesel prices. Cruising at $2 a gallon is bearable, cruising at $5 a gallon is ouch.

Stephen Grames 1 second ago The first time I've commented, but I've watched quite a few of your videos. You are always so cheerful and entertaining, and you add so much information that most of us who just boat recreationally can learn a thing or two. This boat is tempting as a liveaboard and you can't find a decent house along the gulf coast of Fl for this price. Does it have bow thrusters, or is that a modern invention? I would imagine docking in a cross wind could be tricky. It would really be interesting to have a video about the cost of insurance, maintenance, upkeep, dockage, and variable operating cost per mile. If you've done a video like that and I missed it, reply with a link. How many crew members would it really take to professionally operate it? My guess is that is pretty salty. You guys rock, just love watching, imagining, and your banter is great entertainment. Thank YOU!

I like the ladders on the older boats instead of the staircases most of the time the ladders can be moved creating a larger space where the staircases are just there and I have not seen many with a real great use of space behind and under the staircases and the vintage boats with mohagony or teak ladders just have something special about them that isn't found in stairs.

The crow's nest is great, but that radar is a bit too low for me, I'd move it up about 2 feet higher...all that RF energy so close to my head brings up memories from my submarine days: "Attention, there are men working in the sail, do not rotate or radiate from any mast or antenna, there are men working in the sail!".

Updating any remaining instruments should be relatively easy, as long as you can successfully interface the upgrades with the existing system(s). I’d like to see more navigational aids, particularly if it’s owner-operated. In-shore operation isn’t usually too challenging, it’s off-shore navigation and docking that can trip-up the inexperienced, and/or overly ambitious owner….. I would have liked to see more of the engine room, electrical wiring & the generator(s) & maintenance records. That info. is invaluable & can provide opportunities for further negotiation on price at purchase as well as with your marine insurer.
