People seem to forget, classic Disney rides like Haunted Mansion, and Pirates are the same type of calm ride through style. It's the atmosphere that Disney creates that can't be beat. A lot of new rides are using 3D screen technology, but I love that Disney keeps it real and detailed right down to the tiniest thing. I'm looking forward to this big time.

This is one attraction I would brave the crowds for! When the movie first was released on DVD, I fell hopelessly in love with the visual environment. Living in the dark because of a genetic disorder, the bioluminescence of Pandora's environment blew me away. It seems like this ride really captures the ambience portrayed in the film! Thank you for creating this video! After visiting the Weta Cave and tour in Wellington, NZ, I have to say that Disney did a fantastic job of capturing the Navi in their animatronics. Seeing Neytiri on the Weta tour brought about the same reaction as seeing the "people" in this attraction. Well done, Disney!

I rode this opening day and absolutely loved it. The POV really does not do the ride justice, the media and sets are integrated seamlessly, the ride has an incredible sense of place. Flight of Passage is the Heart of Pandora, while Navi River Journey is the Soul of Pandora. You need both for the land to be successful.

This is kinda cool even though its like a old school dark ride. Really liked the projection of the alien cat. And the practical effects of the smaller creatures above. Kinda underwhelming they didn't have more variety like other dark rides take you to various scenes. Like at least have some of the dragons in there or a daytime of the floating moutains. Really would love to see a bunch of animatronic jelly fish things. However seeing this makes me want a Pocahontas ride in Disneyland.

I could be on that part of the ride the whole time and I would probably never get sick of it. This ride is so perfect for people like me. It has a very calming effect, and all the creatures make it look so beautiful. It’s like going to a landmark, you can’t really touch anything, but you enjoy the views and such. This ride is called Navi River JOURNEY. Imagine canoeing through a beautiful river as an event you can do. There’s not going to be something exciting that’s going to happen like the canoe tips over, it’s just the views that you’re going to enjoy ands that’s what you came for

I love theming and prefer dark rides to roller coasters, but this just seems to be a boat ride through a bunch of audio animatronic plants and projections. Nothing actually happens, there are no scenes except for the shaman at the end which looks incredible. I'm not asking for drops, Pirates is entertaining because every room is different and tells a story. This literally just wades you through a bioluminescent jungle until an animatronic is singing and the ride is over.
@jakklisares7 жыл бұрын
I understand why people are underwhelmed by this ride, but I really enjoy it. Not every ride in Disney needs to have thrills, and I think it's good for Disney to release an attraction every once and a while that isn't an E ticket to sort of help long wait times for the bigger attractions. That is sort of what Animal Kingdom is missing at the moment, so I think this ride fills a need while also fitting the land that it's in very nicely. And you can't argue that it isn't super relaxing and that it doesn't look super cool.

@stevenedmondsonmusic49197 жыл бұрын
I cannot believe these comments. Not every Theme Park has to have a thrill ride. If you want all thrills, go to Busch gardens, but in a theme park, it focuses more on story telling then it does on thrills. Which is something all of you should have learned as many years Disney has been around. Just because it doesn't have drops or doesn't speed up, does not mean it's not a ride. This is probably the most beautiful ride I've ever seen. Why can't you guys look at the quality of the animatronics and scenery that is portrayed on this ride, rather then trying to compare it to a thrill ride. It's a theme park... not an amusement park.
@erinclark37987 жыл бұрын
Take pirates for example, though it has a drop, it's not necessarily a thrill ride and yet it still has way more to look at and be immersed in than this ride.
@stevenedmondsonmusic49197 жыл бұрын
That is actually false. This ride is much more advanced in technology than pirates is.
@erinclark37987 жыл бұрын
I'm not arguing about the difference in technology between the rides, but that actually helps my arguement. Pirates is much older and has not nearly as high tech of animatronics as this ride, but it is longer and makes you want to come back to ride it multiple times. The scenery and animatronics of this ride are incredible, but I think lacks the interaction of a walk-through/dark ride that Pirates has.
@stevenedmondsonmusic49197 жыл бұрын
You actually have a point there. Although, I still think this blows pirates out of the water, it's still a really good ride I think. We don't know of course if this ride is actually good because we've seen just a video of it. Pirates will always have a place in my memories due to the fact that is was so popular when it opened and literally kept me alert the entire time.

The majority of those who start shouting around "what, no thrill ?" , are such annoying adolescents, who do not yet have found an equilibrium in life, but already denying they loved storytelling as smaller kids... :-) The age group is VERY SMALL ! (12-26 ample range, 15-18 narrowed down range :-) ) ... By the way, people, have a look at my comment somewhere higher up, starting with : "Timed, the ride itself, almost exactly 6 minutes. I'm amased......" etc. I'm comparing internationally, there. I believe 99.9% of US Disney lovers, don't know 'Efteling', but just, yes indeed, there is more out there in the world, apart from Disney ! :-)

@NicholasLionRider4 жыл бұрын
It is part zoo, part themepark. You're right. But zoos have animals. Theme parks have rides that tell stories. This has neither. I'm fine with it being a relaxing ride that isn't super intense like Flight of Passage or Everest, but it needs to at least be an engaging ride with stuff to look at beyond plants. There aren't any animatronic animals at all. So a person riding it only is going to see alien plants, which they could've seen outside the ride for free without needing to get into a two hour line.

Hmph. I totally see the beauty in it, but frankly, it didn't mystify me like I was hoping it would. The ride is very convincing when it comes to taking aspects of the movie and bringing them to life such as those twirling fire creatures or the little sprites floating around. The main animatronic is flawless in looks and motions but why is there no recognition of the people passing by? Unfortunately, it seems more like a museum than a ride. A ride reaches out and brings the person into the world. A museum requires a lot of extra effort from someone to deep dive into the experience. In my mind, I see the boat entering this river journey brushing by some plants which then releases the sprites or fire twirling creatures into the air. Having more beautiful animatronics such as the bigger avatar animals hiding in the foliage. Water components such as minor splashes and small dips. Maybe even a few water animals that peek up and down from afar. Vines swaying with the air currents. Droplets falling into the water causing pulsations of light. There just wasn't much change in the bioluminescent forest. Needed more interaction. This was played TOO safe.

For 6 years of planning, I was expecting a lot more. Yeah the animatronic is by far the most advanced they've ever had, but the rest of it was literally just a garden boat tour in the dark. Where was the story? Everything at Disney always has such a story to it, they could have done so much more. They talked about being led down the river by a Na'vi shaman, and instead we just pass her at the end. Even some narration would have helped. I'm glad they're making slow rides still, but it just seemed like they put everything into the animatronic and then realized they have 4 minutes of ride left over.
@Wig46 жыл бұрын
Disney's "it's all about the story, the story, the story"... is PR marketing talk. In reality, MOST attractions with Disney are just visually referring to an existing (hopefully previously already known by the public.. ?) story, not bringing any storytelling from scratch. You need time to TELL a story, and it is NOT what most attractions do ! Attractions who do this are very rare ! For instance Sindbad's stories in TDS. Many attractions are rather delivering "a mood", not a story. Like Small World, like this Na'vi River, like Jungle Cruise, like Storybook land .. etc etc. The mood can be "fancy-jolly", or "dreaming", or "hilarious", or "poetic", or, or... In reality, Disney is NOT all about the story, the story, the story... :-)

Not An Avatar fan and don’t think it belongs in Disneyworld but having said that DisneyWorld is about being immersed into the world of imagination that Walts incredible mind created. It’s not about being jostled around until you almost puke. It’s about being transformed into the world of Disney and leaving reality behind for a while. If you want thrill rides you should be able to find them within a short ride from your house. My biggest criticism of this ride has got to be the lack of a pay off or finale that the ride ends on. To me being on the West Coast, it feels like a plussed, super fancy and extended version of the Pirates Cavern scene from Disneyland, only it doesn't end with an exciting siege of a Spanish Fort. That being said I really applaud them on their attention to detail and the amount of stunning visuals they put it. Tighten up the storyline near the end, perhaps some finale with the Navi AA and the ride would be pretty solid.

this hits the nail on the head. even Jungle Cruise has stories woven through out. the animatronics are active in their roles in each ride and this is... yeah. that's precisely the point of each ride. they bring u in as part of the story and are interactive as much as they can be(pirates shooting AT you! piranhas about to eat you! ghosts sitting next to you!). this is definitely a gorgeous ride and that animatronic is flawless, but i think it would have benefited from maybe more animatronics or, you know, seeing the other side of water or something.

Disney spent too much time and money on scenery rather than an immersive storyline.

love the ride but not to sound rude it needs more than 1 animatronic like add a banshee flying over you,a hexapede hissing at the guests,navi people chanting near the tree in the movie(forgot its name),a direhorse moving its head and neck up and down

I haven't ridden this in person, but it seems like a bit of a let down except for one really cool anamatronic. What ever happened to putting the robots in every scene?! This looks like a bunch of 'pretty' decorations and not much else...

To give them credit where it's due, they got the right idea here... The best Disney attractions are ones that transport you to an alternate time or place, not where you just sit in a cart and watch something happen to somebody else. So this boat ride through Pandora is the right idea... but... For this to be interesting you have to be REALLY into Avatar and recognize the imagery and want to visit that world. Is anybody THAT into Avatar? Does anyone even remember that movie existing? Disney panicked over Harry Potter and just tried to find the biggest IP it could at that moment, and ended up with this dead fish. They would have been much better served by just doing their own thing. I can't help but compare this to something like Journey to the Center of the Earth in Tokyo DisneySea, and how much better that attraction is. They should have just imported Mysterious Island from Tokyo and Mystic Manor from Hong Kong. Those would have been much better choices.
@vune867 жыл бұрын
CoryTheRaven Your right about Disney should have done they're own thing with this land. I think Beastly Kingdom would have been a way better fit. Beastly Kingdom sounded like it could have been a DisneySea level two punch combination of top notch concept and quality.
@jakebateman7 жыл бұрын
CoryTheRaven I would agree but don't forget, they have release dates for 4 more Avatar movies so I don't think it was a bad move on their part.

CoryTheRaven Avatar is literally the highest grossing film ever.
@CoryTheRaven7 жыл бұрын
Second highest grossing after adjusting for inflation. But that doesn't mean as much as one might think... What kind of a foothold does it have in the culture? Does anybody talk about Avatar anymore? How many Avatar cosplays do you see at conventions? Is there really any buzz for the sequels? The second-highest grossing film of all time doesn't mean the sequels will be.

Thank you so much for sharing your ride with me(can't afford to go to disney parks) I am a huge avatar fan and I thought this was a visually amazing and relaxing ride. My question is: Was Queen Moat singing an animation on a screen or an animatronic? Either way, her movements were amazing and so lifelike.

It's not a bad ride. I feel like there was a missed opportunity, it would have been so cute and playful to have an animatronic of a little Navi child looking curiously at the boats, maybe giving a little wave to the riders. It would make the ride connect more with the passengers rather than being purely observers.

This ride actually has a lot of pros and cons first off the pros are 1. Perfect on hot days when you just need a break 2. It's a perfect ride if you have infants or toddlers since there aren't any dips or anything 3. It's just so beautiful. Now the cons 1. Yes it's not a thrill ride but honestly how could you even add thrill to this 2. It's just a boat that goes around in a dark room 3. The wait time is really long. Also for everyone who's so confused why the lines so long it's probably cause this is a brand new attraction that people want to check out. I think this ride is perfect for animal kingdom and that land just in general obviously the park just opened so Disney will probably add onto it and besides animal kingdom doesn't have a lot of thrill rides in general. But of course this my opinion I think I make some pretty good points here so feel free to say anything.

The issue with the ride isn't really that its bad, just that it lacks consistency. The ending animatronic is amazing, but past that the rest of the ride are just tv screens and plants. They easily could have made it a Pandora Jungle Cruise and had animatronic versions of the various animals. Even if they didn't move much, I feel it'd be a leg up from the plants right now. Screens have their place in modern dark rides, but they can't be the full experience. Those who wanted to see a screen based simulation of Pandora went to Flight of Passage. Its just crazy to me that in "Animal Kingdom" one of the things Disney decided to not really create were the animals of Pandora. The plants are cool, but its like if Dinoland USA opened "Dinosaur" with just the carnotaurus at the end and nothing but jungle otherwise. It'd feel cheap.

Y'all are getting on my nerves. Disney imagineers wanted this ride to be 'relaxing' rather than a thriller. For goodness sake, there's a rollercoaster in Asia (Expedition Everest) and there is the Flight of Passage not too far from this ride. I don't know why people are getting butthurt. My mother and I were happy because we're more into the 'relaxing' sort of rides :)!
