I know this has been a few months and I think I commented here sometime before, but coach settings definitely impact this too. The stamina overall, fatigue setting, overall lineup size, bench use, all of that impact how many minutes your star is gonna be playing.

I’m pretty sure its the minutes played by stars that effect their ppg. Joel Embiid will be playing like 32 minutes a game and average 24 when he was averaging 33-34 irl. So sometimes the sim sliders are fine but 2k has the coaches bench utilisation way too high or the 11th man off the bench is playing 12 minutes which just doesn’t happen irl.

I shoulda let u know this before...but this is a really great comment. And this is why I've been BEGGING 2K 2 give us some sliders for this kinda thing!! I understand we can't go and change all kinds of things about our opponent's strategy...but just some global sliders that kind of calibrate the CPU's approach across the league!!!!!

Yeah I mean whenever I was doing sims in 24 I would manually change each teams individual coach’s coaching preferences to have the maximum bench utilisation value that still makes sure that teams star players have at least 36-38 minutes per game. This way you can unselect control over a team or set lineups to auto for all teams, whilst the coach will now play star players the higher mpg averages that real nba stars get. This stops players like Embiid from only playing 30-32 minutes a game and scoring only 24 a game. This also stops you from having to manually change minutes which would be pretty much impossible for every team if you’re playing with injuries on. I normally make the bench utilisation value for every coach like 0-20 unless a team has a key player that usually comes off the bench like monk for the kings or beal on the suns. If that were the case I’d set the value so that those players get a least 30 mpg like they do irl.

So would technically have zero CPU controlled teams in the league then? Like u select to control every team in the league at the start...that'd be the only way to edit that right?

Yeah start off with all controlled teams to edit the changes. Once you made the bench utilisation change you can unselect any team you want and then that coach will always play their stars more minutes even when it’s a cpu controlled team. Or if you’re not doing a rebuild and just a sim, you can still select every team and set everything team related to auto.

Also, the only annoying thing with this is that if a team fires the head coach or gets a new one then the slider change you made will be the new coaches setting. So i prefer to play with all teams selected as a user team but allow for roster changes and lineups to be on auto, so its easy to just flick through every team at the start of every season and make sure the minutes still look right. Obviously more annoying then a simple league round slider to force stars to play more often, but after a year of doing this on 24 i found it doesn’t add on too much time to flick through every team once the changes are made.

Been watching your videos for years man. You make the game playable! Quick question for you: for the last 5-6 2ks, I’ve always ran into one big issue: the opponent CPU team double teaming my players once they get going. I’m a Laker fan, and whether it’s playing with Kobe or LeBron, once they get to 20 points, the CPU will double team every single time they catch the ball - leaving shooters WIDE open over and over. This has made me stop playing the game altogether a few times, and I’ve encountered it again in 2k24. Do you know of ANY way to stop this? Any slider or any setting at all? I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find an answer. Thanks man, and thanks for all the hard work!

I’ve had the exact same issue. It’s gotten to the point where it becomes a strategy when I’m losing. It makes the game far less enjoyable. I would love a fix as well if it exists! Thanks for everything popboy!!!

Man I'm sorry I missed ur comment till now!! That's my bad DAMMIT!!! I do know exactly what u mean tho...it's the doubling that actually just makes it easier smh. I have a couple ridiculous clips I tweeted out a while back of me being completely screwed on a possession...but then the CPU decides to double and all it does is bail me out. The WORST is when they leave the guy by the basket open🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ But since this is a strategy/coaching thing for the CPU, there's literally nothing we can do about it and it sucks. I mean I guess it has gotten better over the years, but they still have work to do on it. I praying 2K25 is better in this regard. They need to double less and double SMARTER!!!! And I've been asking them to give us some sliders for just general CPU team strategy!! Nothing to cheese with and gain an unfair advantage, just broad things. Like a "double team frequency" or a "double team sensitivity" slider!! So u have to REALLY have one guy go off to get doubles. Not just score like 8 in a quarter smh 🤦‍♂️

I’m still playing 2k23 on last gen (because I absolutely hate next gen for this game) but regardless of what year or what console what I noticed is that the CPU *never* challenges calls on the court. Irl, I see a coach challenge to play every other game especially towards post season. I’d like to see 2K incorporate that more.

In terms of the gameplay sliders...if really does depend on how talented my team is/what point in the year I'm in. Usually I'm doing a rebuild, so I'm starting off from near the bottom. I pretty much always start the year on Superstar, and it's hard with a lesser team but not impossible. It's still fun and competitive most of the time, but I'm prolly not gonna end up with a great record. Then as I rebuild, my team gets more workable, and as I get more comfortable with the game, I move up to HOF. Usually I'm on HOF by season 3 in the rebuild. Then it's usually by season 5 of the rebuild that I've moved up to Beyond HOF. It's kind of a feel-out process throughout based on the results of my games but that's how it usually goes. I do 58 game seasons and I sim 15 games every year. I make it so I actually play the other 14 teams in my conference 2X and the 15 in the other conf 1X per reg season. So I get a good sample size while not taking forever just to get thru one season. Sorry that was prolly WAY more info than u wanted! Lol I tend to do that!!

@@ThePopboy Nah, you’re good, bro. It just paves the way for me on how I should do my seasons. I like playing as a player and making my own character that’s not OP. I would start him with no more than 10 badges and put him in the draft. I would put the team settings on automatic so my team does everything, so I can truly feel like I’m a player. I give him no more than 10 bronze badges, usually around 7, and his overall can’t be more than 85. I wish for it to be no more than 81 overall but I don't know i could just be trash because when I’m not around an 85 overall and try to make him like a 78 overall or something, I don’t play that well. I miss a lot and get absolutely locked down when I have the ball. So I tend to need a higher overall player, or I have to adjust my sliders to make it easier. I use your Beyond HOF sliders, and I struggle like crazy lol. amazing sliders btw. It’s definitely as realistic and challenging as you were planning to make it. But anyways, I started to get sidetracked, also think the reason I get locked down is because of what you said about the difficulty. So maybe I just need to start at a lower difficulty and then turn it up as I progress. I also will probably try 58 games instead of 82 because it takes way too long. As much as I want to be as realistic as possible, 58 games takes way too long. So I'll probably try 58 or just simulate some of them. Also, I love the sliders, dude. Seriously, I will use your previous 2K sliders whenever a new 2K comes out because of how bad 2K is at making sliders. But yeah, keep up the good work, man. You are the best slider maker I know. Lol.

Whenever I do a 1980's - present simulation, after rookies' 4 year deals, teams don't resign them. I even looked into each team and what they're doing and they're either not matching contracts or trying to sign a different free agent instead of them. How do I fix that? (This becomes rampant in the 2000's), but sometimes good players are leaving teams here-and-there before that.

Yeah I know what u mean about this...it's one of my biggest complaints with the game in general: I wish CPU teams were more realistic with the way the manage their roster & build their team!! That kinda thing is mostly out of our control for CPU teams, but for this issue, u could raise the CPU re-signing aggressiveness slider even more. I already have it up pretty high but u could go higher for sims like this. What have u had it at so far?

Was this just in 1 single game? Or is it over several games and they're averaging only 86? Cuz that is low, but one game may just be a fluke. If u notice it's a continuing trend that teams aren't averaging enough attempts, I'd raise the shots slider under the possession results. That will make more of the possessions end in a shot attempt!👍

I would say that slider is like medium-high when it comes to how touchy it is. There's also the possessions slider, but that's just gonna give u more overall possessions. If u notice many stats r low like that, then I might raise that one just a couple notches. It's more touchy that the shots slider. But if it's only the FG attempts per game that r low, then I'd just focus on the shots slider👍

That tends to happen a little more when there's a team that has one guy who's WAY better than his team. It's like the game doesn't quite know how to apply the settings and spread the stats out. That's an extreme version tho. 40 is TON! So Do u mean he's 1st in the whole league in steals, rebs and blocks? Or just 1st on his team?

Simple answer is it's messed up. There's a whole push and pull with those sliders where I'm almost just kinda choosing the lesser of different evils. It's why I have the chemistry diff slider up high--to at least help make it a little more challenging to have a high chemistry rating...but no matter what u do with that slider, it's not as realistic as I'd like. That's why I have the chemistry effects slider lower than I'd like in a perfect world--if the chem rating was actually realistic and appropriately challenging, then I'd be okay with it affecting ratings more...but it's not, so I don't. I've been bugging 2K to work on this and I'm not gonna stop!!!!! Or at least give us more sliders for it so I can work on for them lol that'd be great too!!

Some r new & some already have my other sliders, etc. In the future, I'll have a clear system for this to keep everybody on the same page!! For these at this time, u can download all the updated sliders by searching my tag "The_Popboy". Just make sure it's actually from my tag cuz some ppl try to use my name lol. For 2K25 and beyond, update videos like this will be designed to give viewers kind of a "head start". So the very newest updates won't be in the downloadable sets.
