The nba live with Dwight Howard, Mike wang jumped ship and worked for EA. It was the best Live since 05. Then the following year, Mike Wang went back to 2k and live never recovered. Mike wang and 2k pulled a Trojan horse on NBA Live.

I can see that. The new iso motion controls were a game changer alive had something like this in Live 2003 but 2K took it to another level and polished it to that point it worked hand in hand with real player movements, signature styles, etc.

I'm of the mindset, let the isolation players play Park to their hearts content where they can do what they want (within reason, not limitless) and people who want to play that steal fast break style can have their mode. Make Rec more realistic and tone things down so it plays more like basketball. You aren't making anyone happy across the game the way it is (except offline players who seem to love the gameplay every year), give each side a mode for themselves. If they choose to play the other mode, then they know what they step into. To be fair, even the rep/season level so that Park starts to line up with Rec more and maybe have Theater be a mixture of both sliders with a more casual atmosphere.

thanks for speaking on this Brute. This is something I have been expressing for a while now that there is a portion of players that do not approach playing the game as playing basketball but instead as purely a video game. it stands out so much when my 8 year old plays and he points out the bad IQ of the players compared to what he knows and executes in real life on the court! Your reference to street fighter is exactly how I explained it to him. there are people that will cheese/cheat to win at all costs and dont feel bad about winning that way at all! its actually accepted behavior in games like street fighter! old heads like me dont respect the cheat to win mindset. the Ryu/Ken example is spot on, when i was young we called it "patterning", using the same move over and over to get your opponent in a predictable situation to beat them. throwing the fireball the entire round and hitting them with the uppercut when they tried to jump over it was cheese to the 10th power. I only enjoy the 2k when I find a lucky team of like minded ppl that play the game from a basketball perspective. swing the ball, play defense and not sell on purpose! its rare but thats the only time the game is fun is when ppl play the right way and it makes winning sooooo much easier than using any exploit. win or lose I respect the game of basketball and dont want my son to pick up those cheat to win behaviors! thanks again my G! respect!

Limitless was only a problem when people ran baseline and got a dunk everytime, other than that you could make people miss dunks. Shooting wise though, some people can go on a shooting streak and make 12 shots in a row and dont miss. The problem with shooting is that you don’t know if it’s going in or not with 99 3ball, hot zones, and boost. It’s like why put rng in a sports game in the first place??

The reality is REALISIM is FUN. real life basketball and dribbling is explosive and pretty fast. 2k25 resembles none of that. For years 2k has continued to pick and choose what they deem realistic and what they should put in their game. Want to make shooting realistic and have us miss shots but want us moving like snails and every effective dribble move gets removed or nerfed and quickly deemed "cheesy". Jus because a move is effective dont mean its cheesy. Do ppl understand their is more cheesy things besides dribbling??? Since when ppl started feeling like they are the cheesy Gods and only they know what is cheesy or not 😂. 2k should be fun, gameplay should have some type of skill gap especially when it comes to shooting and movement. NBA live was not better until 2010. 2k started being the higher rated game by reviewers with 2k6. It was better from that point forward. Some people were late because it was a hard game but 2k8 looked much more like NBA basketball than Live . ISO motion had a learning curve but if you learned it you had nearly as much control as today to do a variety of moves. Whereas live you hit the shoot button and it was random what animations you got . You couldn’t euro , hop step , spin jumper etc . Some of this was in those early 2ks. The controls were just complex. 😢

Me and my cousin used to run Franchise mode! We would run it until all the "real" NBA players phased out of the game and retired. They'd become coachin candidates and shxt. Team full of college players from user created drafts and AI generated players in drafts. shxt was so fun. We can't even run the mode online like it should be ran. Dreamcast! Many people don't realize this is the mechanics that make the game fun and hard to defend because the mechanics dominate going east to west. 2k never had on-ball defense going east to west and has it more favorable to go north-south for better cut-off animations while shading one-way

I grew up on Bulls vs Lakers. NBA Live 08 to me was the end. It was unplayable. And somehow got worse from there. 08-10 were some bad years in videogame basketball but I wonder what role the recession played in it.

That being said who told them it was ok to isolate half the community by nerfing taller builds , what sense it make giving less attributes to taller guard builds , animations ok but less attributes was a bad idea cause you have to sacrifice so much that it doesn’t make sense to even make it and then all the animations as of today are ridiculously unusable compared to what shorter builds get

People also forget that Mike Wang was the leading developer for EA Sports and was supposed to be making Live (Elite 11 which later became NBA Live 14) He then switched between the the two companies until choosing to stay with 2K for the foreseeable future. Scott OG was also the next target of gameplay development to move over to 2K. Those and gameplay decisions were the beginning downfall of NBA Live

People rather get their 20 vs win even if it takes 20 shots. Most gaurds need help on def making 1 player a liability. If you're all offense and they put a lock on you then you're useless. 2k needs to slow game speed down you can't gaurd the paint and the 3 point line at the same time. If they make players suffer for over helping and fix catch animations and passing speed the game wouldn't be that bad.

2k started being better than live in 2008.. the fluidity in the movement just was better.. Also player models were a big deal back then and Live wasnt good at that.. 2k9 w/ KG on the cover was the 2k that finally put them on top.. They had the good crowd graphics, lighting, court models were good.. just took it advantage of Live being less innovative.. Then when 2k10 came it was gone to the moon (MyPlayer came out that year)..

I'm not about to lie or be bias NBA Live was cooking 2k, it wasn't about the game play or the movement. 2k saw the writing on the wall that they couldn't sell 2k at full price so they dropped it. Parents saw the cheaper game and bought that I remember talking to classmates and they would tell me that they were mad that they didn't get live. We as kids couldn't tell what gameplay differences from each game. When Live dropped 05 with the slam dunk comp everyone loved Live then 2k dropped 11 and everyone was gasing it cause live didn't drop 11 because Mike Wang fucked up the gameplay up with all this stick shooting and dribbling. (he finally got y'all to play that way in 25) live 08 and 10 was the best game that dropped then they skipped 11, 12, 13 that's what what was the down fall of live not having game's to play. When EA started promoting live again was 18 a lot of people came back and was playing it then when people started to get on by making NBA Live videos. Then moved to 2k they just started shitting on Live saying the game was stiff and animations based when you could, clearly make the same argument for 2k but worst at times (y'all can go look this up) then everyone just jumped on they this game ass train and that people who was hating on the game never maxed out their player. Live was the first to put the shammgod in it and the nutmeg in the game. 2k took everything live did better and ran with it and again live thought they was the better game and rook the high road just like when they didn't release games.

Realism we want yes. But not at the cost of losing control. We’re losing control they’re implementing these weird animations that ARE NOT realistic. I feel like they’re forcing us to play the game the way it’s played in the NBA. Forcing us to shoot 3’s by killing slashing and also somewhat nerfing defense. The shooting can be argued but you can’t argue that slashing is dead and defense is not what it once was. I can clamp someone down and then they get passed an Alley, and the animation forces them past me for the easy alley finish How realistic is that? I like 2k25 but it can be waaaaay better

This 2k25 has been more fliud since dropping games on the new gen consoles. I just think they need to upgrade to a new engine. How can 2k say they are pushing realism when I am still putting my hand through the ball when i go for a steal on defense? I thought this was PlayStation 5 not ps1. Big men are still jumping like crazy and kicking the ball out your hands and getting credit for blocks. Big man sitting moving screens on defenders that have gravitational pulls. Those screens pull you out of defensive position when you're not even moving. High playmaking guards get no penalties for bad dribbling and get rewarded with ungardable nutmeg animations. They let high steal defenders foul you to get the ball. Slashers get slapped and pushed out the air with no foul called. You hear the slap sound effect and your players on the ground. Why? How sway? The biggest problem with 2K across the board is player versus player interactions. For example, the best way to get a steal is to be slightly out of the way of the ball handler. Facing the wrong way then reach. If you're lucky you stick your butt out and steal the ball with your butt. Name one NBA player that's known for making steals with his butt. Realism my bump steal. To be honest it's to the point where I don't even want ankle breakers or stuns. If I get an ankle breaker I got to watch out for the defender falling into me and giving me a turnover. Or if I get a stun I'll stun them so early in the dribble move that he'll have time to recover and block it. I rather have the defender just go be lost off the crossover and run out of bounds.
