I too was born in 84 but didn't start playing the game until this year, thanks to MAME! It quickly became one of my favorite games. BTW; did you know, to date, it's the 5th best selling arcade ever and did over 1 billion in sales (in quarters) its first year?

83 for me. I had the Genesis version of this, which translated pretty well onto that console, despite being far from arcade perfect though. The Sega CD port was overall the best of the original NBA Jam games on home systems, even if that one still had it's fair share of flaws and what not however.

I wish Arcade 1up would at least release upgrade packs for the old cabs. So we would buy the upgraded screens with scanlines, a lighted marquee or other upgrades. Great video!

It's a great party cabinet! Having said that the cpu completely changes how it plays if you are winning. They will rush you and snatch the ball no matter what. If you pass it will be picked off. They even snatch the ball while you are throwing elbows!!

I wonder if the code still exists in these versions where Bulls players shots tank at the buzzer if its a close game against the Pistons. Turnbull one of the leads was a major Pistons fan, and he said: "If there was a close game and anyone on the Bulls took a last second shot, we wrote special code in the game so that they would average out to be bricks. There was the big competition back in the day between the Pistons and the Bulls, and since I was always a big Pistons fan, that was my opportunity to level the playing field."
