Exactly. If you got someone dunking and taking 6 foot shots as your main guy making nearly 60% it's a winning combo versus a guy making in low 40%. O'Neal won titles with his teammates shooting poorly. When the guy taking most your shots about 15% more accurately than the other main player it's almost impossible to overcome. It's the smart way to play. It's what Jackson wanted. He understood. Could Shaq beat Iverson in a game of Horse? Nope. But if you got your main player taking easy shots versus difficult shots it's a done game. Iverson could only win if his teammates outplayed Shaqs by a great margin.

Technically not. The problem in a way was him. Sports leagues morph generationally. If a player is not willing to adapt then they have noone but themselves to blame. It does not take anything away from their past greatness but it's just that: past. AI's issue was discipline. The league was transitioning from the "super alpha male that did whatever he wanted" (Jordan smoking cigars before games kinda era. AI and being mad with practice and coaching), to a more play-based coaching style era. This was because of the dominance of the Lakers, the Heat and the Spurs. Hint what did all three have? Coaching and discipline: Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Greg Popovich. It was silly in the face of that dominance by teams that could methodically beat you to continue relying on "the AI show" no matter how great it was. If he didn't adapt, no one really is to blame. Similar thing to say Melo. Or any pos 4's in today's game that hasn't adapted to the "big men should have jump shots and range" era.

The BEST scorer of ALL TIME. Over Jordan and just a bit over Kobe (I only wish Iverson had his longevity).

...why didn't he play for that long?
@jthrillz72884 жыл бұрын
Its no secret he was a big party man. In fact more of a party man than his continuance of practice to win and become even better.. Which leads to a bad combo and could eventually slow your performance (I'm from d.c, I can't tell you how many after parties was promoted in his name on 95.5 wpgc when I was a kid). There's a story, a coach seen Iverson at a restaurant and kept feeding him drinks. When he was finished Iverson walked over and told him. He's still going to drop forty on them...and HE DID.

Iverson would be on a fast faaassst break and then cross anyone in mid stride. The man was MVP and never won a Ring. My favorite of all time. Barkley was not the greatest player who never won a Ring. A.I. was.

AI was awesome hands down I love him, but I disagree that he reached his maximum I think even he would tell u that. The one year he truly bought in he won the MVP and was the driving force that brought them to the championship vs the Lakers with all that said he was the most entertaining player I ever saw...
