Everyone contributed when they needed to, and Pat is a top 3 coach all time, but, make no mistake. 3rd year Dwyane Wade has to pull off an all-time great performance to get it done.

One of the best First Take segments I’ve seen in a long time but Stephen A was wrong about one thing - dwade did carry that 06 miami heat squad primarily in the last 2 rounds the East finals and NBA finals against Detroit and Dallas 2 60 win teams and it was because of wade’s sheer brilliance, talent, athleticism, intestinal fortitude and will to win that took Miami over the edge even with a bunch of veterans who made timely plays but overall contributions weren’t significant

When I see the Heat I think more of a Pat Riley system than an Erik Spoelstra led team for some reason. Coach Spo was super fortunate to have LeBron, D Wade & Bosh when he did. From the bubble to now they've done quite well though

Pat built the foundation and culture so he should get most of the credit. He was the one who handpicked Spo so anything Spo does, Pat should also get credit. Not to mention, he stuck with Spo even when people were telling him not to. Spo made changes to the defensive philosophy that ran counter to Pat's previous teams but Pat stuck with it, never asked Spo to change. If not for Pat, the Heat would have changed coaches multiple times during the Big 3 era up to now. It's not that Spo is head and shoulders above all other coaches in terms of X and Os. Spo is successful because he was given free reign by Pat to do whatever he wants as a coach within the culture that they set. If more organizations were like this, then they'll be successful too. It's similar to a CEO/COO relationship with Andy Elisburg as the CFO.

This is all you need to know about Spo: currently of the 30 NBA Head coaches, only 4 have been with their current team for at least 8 years: Kerr, Snyder, Spo and obviously Pops. 3 of the 4 have multiple NBA championships and Spo is on that list. I don't know what at stake for Spoelstra here, but I know what's at stake in the Finals. If he gets to another Finals and loses, his legacy takes a hit as a guy that can't do it without 3 guys with championship experience and prime Chris Bosh on his roster . If he gets to another Finals and wins, then frankly I think his legacy should be elevated. Most GMs in the NBA did not think Jimmy Butler could be a #1 guy on a chip team, and there is no true #2. They play great team D and really any moment one of 3 or 4 guys could step up and be the #1 or #2 scorer for a game. Why do they spend so much time talking about 2006 when Riley was coaching? What that got to do with Spo?
