In spite of his injury Willis limped unto the floor for warmups jumped center with WILT & even hit a couple shots before going to the bench the rest of the game. The Knicks went on to win the chip. Having had back spasms a couple times in my life, I know how bad a minor back injury can impact you. HOWEVER, the panel is correct - you have to try. Sometimes I wonder if NBA players could do a regular job - the 2nd time I got back spasms and couldn't even walk to my car and drive to work, my work told me I wouldn't be paid if I didn't show up, as they didn't have to let me use sick leave in this state until I had worked there 90 days (I had worked there 88 days). So I put a hot pack on my back, took some ibuprofen, waited an hour to get the back functional and still made it in to work. I guess when you get paid million$ to not show up, there isn't so much motivation..... BUT the TEAM aspect that was brought up was even bigger. And I get it for sports and life. Once was in London for work and had to move an office a specific weekend. But I got severe food poisoning. It didn't matter - I took meds, drank a lot of water, got the job done and then collapsed in the hotel room for 2 days. You do what needs to be done.
@jacquesschrap89322 жыл бұрын
What you said is factual. I work in construction, I have back & hip issues from the nerves to the tendons & to top it off I'm paid by peacework. I have to complete jobs to get paid otherwise I don't get paid at all. Imagine if NBA players got paid their contracts the same way. Set rate for your value skill wise and then if you show up and play your 25 mins minimum you collect your pay if not your pay goes directly towards your rehab cost.

Ben Simmons is making some of the most head scratching decisions I've ever seen from an NBA player. It's like he either has zero self awareness or simply does not care one tiny bit what other people think about him, whether it's fans, coaches, owners or his teammates. Surely he knew exactly what he had done to his reputation leading up to the Brooklyn trade, he had become one of the most despised players since LeBron after The Decision. Most rational thinking people would say 'well, I have to do something to win back those fans' but Simmons has done the complete opposite. Brooklyn fans were very supporting and even defensive of any criticism of him leading up to this announcement but now it seems they have all done a complete 180 and are now bagging him as much as Philly fans have bagged him the last six months. He successfully alienated one fanbase by refusing to play, got traded to a new team in a new city and has now alienated that fanbase in the space of ten weeks. He is either the dumbest player in the history of the league or the most arrogant, there is no inbetween. The guy's career is close to finished after this.

I think it may be finished. If he's quoting mental health as a reason not to play basketball (??) then what can he handle? Everyone has performance pressure. For most people, they don't get million$ to not do something while dealing with it. He's probably just stalling for the $20M he got out of this, and then don't be surprised is he walks away because he is being bullied or some BS like that.

I'd love to see how I can paid for my mental health. I quit my last job because of constant conflict with board of directors, articles in the newspaper, while dealing with COVID and still having to show up every day as we provided critical services. After 18 months of that, I had to walk away for mental health and recharge for the next job. I don't see any checks rolling in..... I guess I should have claimed a back injury on the way out? Thankfully my wife and I got our finances in order first. Maybe he should do the same and start a new career where his back doesn't matter and he is mentally ready to do it... ;-)

That's what the panel was asking as well. And as Kenny said, you could get hurt just being in the workout room. But despite HIPAA, we usually know HOW you got injured as well as that you can't play because of it. I have to wonder if the NBA follows their own rules on disclosure, and they are required to given reasonable info because it affects the betting lines. Him saying I'm going to play!, then not playing at all, could be grounds for an investigation just due to that swaying of Vegas odds.

Kevin Durant in 2019 is a good argument against what they’re saying. But… Ben Simmons has shown absolutely no desire to contribute to the team. Ben isn’t on one leg risking a major injury like KD (at least that’s what we believe). Gary Trent Jr was on fumes in game 2 against Philly. Still showed up, gave it a go, and when he realized he didn’t have it he sat out. But he tried. Ben Simmons isn’t even trying. Instead he’s too focused on his clown outfits on the bench. Even if the Sixers don’t go far in the playoffs, they’re still winners for getting rid of that bum.
