NBC staff announcer Kelvin Keech striking the NBC Chimes (which comprise the notes C-A-F in A=435Hz pitch) on the Deagan 20 dinner chime, then giving the WEAF station ID. Taken from the 1933 Paramount short "Captain Henry's Radio Show". The network cue, chimes, and local station ID would have been given at the very end of the program, but are spliced into the opening of this film.
The chimes used here, the Deagan No. 20 chime, had chime plates in the notes C, F, A, and C. The first, third, and second bars are struck by the announcer, giving the notes C-A-F. The NBC Chimes Machine that was introduced in 1932 used the notes G-E-C, which many believe stand for General Electric Company. However, the Justice Department forced RCA (and NBC) to sever all ties with both General Electric and Westinghouse in 1930, before the three-note NBC chimes were adopted. The notes are based on a harmonic triad similar to that available on dinner chimes.
