Martin - I am giving my own opinion which I know is shared by some others - in my view Fort William is in a stunning setting but the town doesn't match up to it.. But glad you are enjoying my videos - you might like the Ireland series I did last year which is even more dramatic! - check my playlists

Quick comment. bro'. That climb up from Ballachulish Bridge. I did that climb the other way (downhill) on my cycle and hit well over 40mph!! I was lucky enough that as I hit the top of Glen Coe, the piper struck up as if to welcome me. A magical moment indeed. I still cherish the recording on my Dictaphone. Glad you pulled at that car park - fabulous view of the highlands on both sides of Loch Tulla, going on 'for ever'. I view I'll never forget. Shrinking river - the Manifold in Derbyshire quite often just goes underground when the weather is dry. In parts, no river a t all! That new bridge looks like those that REME sometimes build as exercises.

I lived in Argyll (Dunoon) for a while, and no matter where you were, or the weather, Inveraray always looked sunny. Had the best baked salmon there too, in a barn type restaurant, on the day Charles and Di got married; I was on my way back from Mull (I'd had enough of the royal wedding thing and was trying to avoid seeing or hearing any reference to it). Brought back a lot of memories

In the late 70's a friend of mine worked for the water board. Part of his duties included going to remote river monitoring stations for their readings (no computers!). In late December three of us went with him to check the flow at Glen Orchy. We travelled in his Triumph Dolomite Sprint. We drove though absolute blizzard conditions and the ice flows on the river were amazing. Some of the ice was literally standing vertically six feet and more . It was a tremendous day out and I still think about it all these decades later. Oh, we all rode motorcycles too. I still do but don't know about the other guys as we've lost touch.

What an interesting story - you can tell by the jagged rocks in that river that there has been some erosion there over the years. Thanks for your comment and for watching !

I have done this route several times in various sections but you took a few small deviations that I will have to follow in future, Also you missed a treat in Largs, the big white art deco building as you entered town is Nardini's Italian gelato and cafe/pizza restaurant for great ice creams with parking for bikes not a problem down the side.

I t was a nice surprise to see this video in my feed .One of my first bikes was a YB100. I was very fond of it. It was very reliable but I was 18 stone and it would cut out at 40. Then Slick 50 was invented and I could keep a constant 45. I can't remember what happened to it. I passed the street I bought it from a couple of days ago and had been thinking about it on and off. So it's a bit weird because there's just no way KZbin's algorithms could have got a hold of that.

Was on that ferry twice today, live the other side of Dunoon. Had a wee laugh, you must have passed 6 or 7 ice cream cafes in Largs and also Inveraray has a good few coffee shops. Caledonia is such a poignant song for all true scots home or afar.
@RobLittleuk
@RobLittleuk Жыл бұрын
I had to include that song and thats the problem if you monitorise YT - you can't include copyright music like that. As far as the cafes were concerned probably most in the high street - i saw them but need to park the bike near where I am sitting for security and so many cars and vans in that street the bike could be knocked over. Thanks for your comment !!

Wonderful... again. I was guided along the Glen Orchy road only a couple of weeks after you, it was the first time for me and was delightful but I think the river had even less water in it than when you were there. I used the same roads from Inveraray to the ferry but a couple of years ago, my first time on a ferry with a bike, I thought Largs was the Weston-s-Mare (where I live) of Ayrshire, lots of chip shops and candy floss, not sure how you managed to avoid finding ice cream! You have my sympathy on staying in Preston, I rode (slowly) through it on my way home from D&G... I shall not pass that way again....ever! It will be sad to see the end of this series.
@RobLittleuk

Glad you enjoyed the series Neil - still a couple more to go!! Agree Glen Orchy is beautiful and so quiet and Largs is maybe the WSM of scotland - not sure. What were you doing in Preston? But if you enjoyed this trip you really must turn to my tour of Ireland which I did in June last year on the same bike - I have to tell you somewhat more dramatic in peeing rain but with stunning landscapes. @@RobLittleuk I was in Preston in June 2021 on my way home from riding the NC500 plus a bit more... in fact a very similar route to yours. It was a hot Sunday mid morning and I was on my VStrom 650. I don't think I have ever been there before and it was, like any busy urban area over endowed with traffic lights and inattentive car drivers, dreadful, slow and hot. Since then I have endured the M6 on several occasions rather than repeat my 'Preston Experience'.

Looks like another great day, Rob, even though you did indeed look a little tired at the start of it! Whilst Fort William isn't that brilliant as a place, the Pass of Glencoe is very atmospheric; it has a great brooding presence and the views are magnificent. That’s a nice road Rob, as to gold panning Scotland last held the world gold panning championship in 2017 at a river in Moffat, think they had previously held the championship in the 90’s.
