She will run against "senior world class" competition at USATF Outdoor Championships in this same venue on June 23-25 ! !
@annasdad8008
@annasdad8008 2 жыл бұрын
“Senior world class” is a whole different level. This same track will host the US Nationals in a few weeks (June 23-26) then the World Championships July 15-24 (first time ever in the US). To make the US team for Worlds an athlete must be among the top three at Nationals who have met qualifying times. For the women’s distance events on the track they are: 4:05.70 for 1500, 15:13 for 5,000. According to the USATF official listings there are currently 12 women automatically qualified by time for the 1500 meters and 8 women automatically qualified for the 5,000 meters. Tuohy does not have an automatic qualifying time in either distance but is high enough among the non qualifiers so she should get an invitation to Nationals based on ranking (3rd among non qualifiers for 1,500 and 1st among non qualifiers for 5,000). Note that the top 3 women in the 1,500 all have times under 4:00 and the top 4 women in the 5,000 all have times under 14:55 (with the fastest, Elise Cranny, at 14:33.17).

@@annasdad8008 Good analysis. Keep in mind that this was a pretty pedestrian pace for two-thirds of the race. Everyone was keying off Katelyn, who kept cool until Parker's late surge. With an honest pace, KT could have been close to 15:00.

People were bashing Kate at the start of NCAA when she couldn't even place. But I knew she was still recovering from major knee surgery. She was thinking about her future rather than the next win. It takes a full year to recover from knee surgery and that's for normal people not counting D1 distance runners. Katelyn is not only a strong runner she is a smart runner. You have to credit her great coaching. This race proves that she is certainly the real deal and she has a bright future ahead barring any further injuries.

To the producers of this NCAA Championships channel: I've noticed on more than a few of these KZbin videos that the volume is extremely low, so much so that ads running during playback run intolerably loud. Notwithstanding that problem, providing these videos on KZbin is much appreciated, especially for track and field, which doesn't get much coverage on general TV networks.

@MrVvulf 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure she's underrated, especially after this competition. Her improvement this season has been pretty crazy, so it's not like she's been tearing up the tracks and everyone was ignoring her. She's been setting new personal bests back to back. Her PB went from a 15:32 less than a month ago to a 15:29 two weeks ago, and now knocked ANOTHER 9 SECONDS off her PB, posting a 15:20 today. And keep in mind, less than a year ago she posted a 16:54 (cross country). If she's been underrated, it was Parker underrating her own ability, and she's just gaining confidence and conditioning.

Not sure about that. Katelyn seems to get along with everyone. Chmiel was her biggest rival in high school and they are teammates. I guess one thing I noticed is that Valby in two races seemed to make a point of running next to Katelyn and crowding her. It seemed like a crude psyche job attempt, maybe something her coach came up with. But KT has been running these type of races since 7th grade. Valby also did not congratulate KT after the race, but I only sw Roe and KT's teammates doing that so not a big deal. I think Valby thought she would outstrength everyone and was surprised she didn't win.

Sometimes when an elite athlete is forced to take time off it results in a personal best time. Parker Valby was in such a situation. The obsession to keep at the training everyday is almost impossible to stop. It seems that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Winners have a great desire to win. They can’t imagine that their desire to win could be any greater. Katelyn Tuohy also was forced to take time off.

Glorious! After winning the 1500 in 4:06, manages to come within a few seconds of the meet record. That look she gave Valby as she passed her, like "Let's see you keep up with this!" Really taking the Alpha Female wolf role seriously! Looking forward to the rest of her meets!

Love Kaitlyn 👏👏👍. Valby was exceptional ,and with better tactics would of been an even closer race💢

What tactics do you mean? She raced beside her, then tried to take the race by leading. She couldnt shake Katelyn and Katelyn took the race from behind.

@@rasher331 She ran in lane 2 for most of the race adding extra distance. It's allso her first 5000 since coming back from injury having done no running since the heel injury.She did really well all things considered 👍

@@JohnJohn-cu7nk Agreed but dont think changing tactics would've helped her in anyway today. Kaitlyn was casually slowing at the end cause she knew she didnt need to maintain the effort. She could've gone up another gear if needed. It will be great to see Valby back in form and making the races more competitive. It might inspire some records.

Katelyn made her move at 600 meters to go, passing Valby and cruising in the last lap. As the announcer said, she had a lot left in the tank. Her PB is 5:14 I think. Right now, she looks like she can get down to 5:00-5:05. We'll see her in the 2024 Olympics.
