If you've EVER wrestled before (or trained for it), you would know that's not how it works. If anything, the level of conditioning is one giant variable that determines who the better wrestler is. If your guy got tired, that's not "luck", that's on him. He should work harder next time.

@zaynes5094

@@luiscruz5556Jokes on you, he just humbled Mesenbrink a little and now it will make Mesenbrink work on the one major flaw in his wrestling. Getting out of the bottom position and never letting someone ride him out like that again. Tougher test would be Keegan O'Toole because O'toole can match his physical strength. Also, I will say one thing, Keegan was really tired at the end of that match with Carr and more tired than I've seen him before but he was up for most of that match too. If Keegan came back to beat the breaks of Carr I wouldn't be surprised. If Mesenbrink came back as fierce on bottom and getting out of ride-outs as he was on top I wouldn't be surprised. He should've looked to do the same to Carr what Carr did to him. Ride-out and make the riding time a non-factor. Now Mesenbrink will have even more motivation to kill Carr next time they meet. From what I've seen, Mesenbrink is an even better Freestyler than Folk.

@@zaynes5094 jokes on me? your post sounds like a whole lot of shoulda-coulda-woulda. the matches played out as they played out. you don't get a free ticket for gassing out. nor do you get a free ticket for "almost" winning a match that was close simply because of stall calls and escape points. carr shot more, carr hit more takedowns, and carr rode him out. those are the facts, like them or not. They were trying to rob him of this title. Other than the push out, which was a warning all those other stalls were based on the refs preferring messenbrinks style. Care did more than other matches that were stalled for the full first and second period. Carr out wrestled him, messenbrink should’ve been down 4 pts in this match, the frustration from the stall calls allowed messenbrink to score. I don’t care if messenbrink fake shots aren’t stalling.

Mitch shouldn’t feel like he did that much in this match. He really only scored 5 points, 3 by escapes and 3 by one takedown. The other three points were given to him by the refs, only 1 of which was probably warranted. The other 2 were totally unnecessary. Carr deserved to win this match. He had 2 takedowns and over 2 minutes of riding time. That is dominance in my book.

Messinbrink showed up for the finals but Carr kicked his ass since the stalling calls and two points against him were BS. But Messinbrink does have a good future in front of him. Carr won, fairly and with heart. Messnebrink learned something and will be back. Stalling has been a problem for years in wrestling and nearly cost the sport the Olympic event. However, the NCAA stalling rules are strange. Since the takedown is now 3 points, why not add a point for pushouts. It would solve several problems. NCAA and US international wrestling is exciting again!

1st period- Carr takes 2 shots, gets one takedown. 4 mat returns in 1:42 of riding time. 2nd period- Carr gets an escape at the edge and is hit for stalling on an immediate push out because he happened to escape near the edge. Ref stops match on Carr’s shooting at the edge cause he thinks Messenbrink is hurt. Carr hit for stalling as he is literally scoring a takedown. Ref doesn’t call a caution on Messenbrink for trying to lean out before a restart. 3rd period- Carr gets hit for stalling again while trying to mat return Messenbrink. What a god awful job on the ref.

Ironically, if the ref hadn’t given Carr the stalling point, he would have been up by 1 on the scoreboard and Mesenbrink would have gone for the takedown in the end instead of being confused. Great job by Carr. Mesenbrink’s last great challenge.

@@parkerthompson3447 you don’t have to ride the outside to be a boring non aggressive wrestler. Look at Bartlett and Davis. I’ve seen enough to know which school gets calls. Go back and watch Hidlay/Nolf 2019 or Valencia/Hall 2017. All 3 td’s in this match were off Carr shots.

My friend always says minority wrestlers have to do twice as much. Never really paid attention. Carr gets 2 take down gets hit for stalling 4 times. Dating fix runs stalls whole match gets 1 stalling point. Then later hidlay does the same thing, and doesn't hit. Now I'm seeing what you're saying.

I don’t want to start a debate. Yes there is truth to what you have heard. Having had it done to me, and black athletes I’ve coached. How many times have you seen a black athlete celebrate a win and have their sportsmanship questioned. Here is one. How many times have you seen a successful black wrestler described at “he is so athletic” rather than a good smart wrestler.

Officiating is horrible in this match, basically if a PSU wrestler is behind getting taken down it's just automatic stalling on the guy beating them. Then the commentary crew ignoring the champion to heap praise on the officiating aided runner up, really silly stuff. A one team sport isn't healthy for the sport, not sure why anyone covering college wrestling tries to make that a thing so hard.

That second stalling in the 2nd period was bs. I am glad D.C was announcing. They called him for stalling as he was shooting. So was the one at the beginning of the 3rd. Carr was working to ride. For those saying only one because he stalled, what match were you watching. Carr got two takedowns, and controlled him on top. ( I am a fan of good wrestling and Penn State, but those hating on Carr are off base) Two points Mitch should not have gotten for stalling. Oddly enough that last 30 seconds Carr did not get hit for stalling. That is when he was defending the takedown, but stalling would have been warranted. Great match. The was experience over youth.

The stall calls were excessive early in match. All the comments about crazy stalling by car is ridiculous. He used the mat and moved. Mesenbrink pushed but car moved really well and never gave him a good opening for a shot. Car rode him really tough and the attempts were legit to not get stall calls. Great match and big mistake by Penn state in not sprinting in end, not realizing he was down. I have seen way more backing up and backing out not get stall calls. Personally, push out rule would take away more of the subjective and really help USA internationally for the transition.

So far, I am extremely disappointed at the refs in these finals. They suck. They twice favored a guy that lost. If wrestlers want to have a privilege in their matches, they have to wrestle for the conference that have that advantage.

Did anyone else notice how much trouble Carr was having with his headgear? Kept adjusting it during the match and I seemed to even cause him to get called for stalling at one point. I cannot understand how you can make it to the ncaa championships and not have your headgear completely dialed

Looks like the refs still haven't changed with their shall we say "selective" use of the stall call to keep the golden boys in matches. Normally, I would chalk it up to a "bad call", but I've been around too long and seen it happen too much.
