Showing Sakura Sasuke's violent death hits really different after learning Kakashi's backstory. If Sakura didn't have what it takes to keep trying to be a ninja after that she likely wouldn't have survived what happened to him way back. Fun fact the radios they use in this episode only work in a certain radius of the village as they are only really used for beginner missions bc it was such unreliable tech for them, and they were only really used to see if the team had successful communication, that’s why it’s not apart of academy training

I just started watching Naruto a couple months ago and right now, I’m in the huge amount of filler episodes after the Saske retrieval arc, and slowly I’ve been getting the feeling that the show kind of peaked with the whole Zabuza arc. It felt like the Chunin exam thing didn’t deliver as well as it could have, especially in terms of the whole hard work beats talent thing. The land of waves thing did a great job at establishing everyone’s strengths, like how Naruto and Saske push each other to be better, and it also shows Sakura’s hidden potential and chakra control. As I’ve gotten further into the show , it has felt like they have been getting further and further away from that sort of writing. And besides, the whole Zabuza and Haku thing made me feel so much more than any other part of the shoe has so far.

One thing I realized about Naruto is that they kind of set the students up to fail. As far as I understand, they never train their students on actually working as a team, and they throw them into this three-man team system and tell them to just figure it out. I feel there should be a week of them getting to know each other and forming a connection before testing them.

They didn't turn on each other. Ironic given what Sasuke does later. It's not 'how well you work together'. It's 'will you work together' or fail. I'd like to go into more detail, but that would require me writing an entire essay, and I don't want to do that.

To be fair! Even during shippuden, Sasuke's character mostly made sense... Until Taka. Sasuke with Orochimaru didn't actually go as far as kill anyone onscreen. He did a bit of showing off but... Hebi Sasuke prioritized his teammates over himself a good few times, he just had a new team. Bee fight Sasuke did the same. Then the Character Assassination Summit arc happened.
