No one would take the Sailaway category and then pay the $700+ for the UBP. Instead they would step up from the sailaway category and take the UBP as an option. But then the $99/day comes into play. Since NCL charges the gratuities on both the UBP & Dining options when chosen this gives them a larger gratuity they can charge. So they currently charge $20/day gratuity vs the 20% times the $49/day in the past, or $10/day. They don't care if you decide to not take the $99/day, they get their revenue on the gratuity fees

For $19.80 a day in gratuities, the ultimate beverage package is basically FREE, especially with a $15 drink limit and a cocktail or glass of wine for $12 and two $3.75 Diet Pepsi's and you've made the daily cost back. The UBP is good on NCL's other private island Grand Stirrup Caye! Glad you enjoyed your NCL Breakaway cruise. You're both going to love the Bliss. 4000 passengers and you never feel crowded unless it's the muster drill. Alaska is an awesome cruise itinerary. Bon Voyage

Our first cruise we didn’t get a drink package as I didn’t know about it. The last night we had a hefty bill slipped under the door. Talk about sticker shock. The second cruise I made sure we bought the drink package. Def worth it.

we always go and grab coffee in the morning at the speciality coffee shop for a extra charge (of course) and then go next door to the atruim bar and ask for shots of baileys in our coffee. (Free with UBP)

I agree with you about the gratuities as its tips for the staff onboard to top up their wages as their pay is not that high and I would not complain in paying them as the staff onboard work hard and work unsocialable hours and they deserve any extra money they get given by all the passengers

I am going on the NCL Pearl. I have booked the Haven Two-Bedroom Suite. It will be my wife and I, plus our three adult children. My wife and I will upgrade our drink package to the Highest one. The question is, do I have to buy the same drink package for my adult children. Their ages range from 25 to 33. If I do, does it have to be the same category as the one my wife and I purchase??

Agree about the Pepsi! My experience is you can get the ultra premium liquors but do have to pay the difference. So your gold might have caused a five dollar charge or something like that.

Oh a 14 day cruise will be amazing! Just wanted to make sure you know, but the sail away rate does not include the drink package. If you are not a drinker then this is the way to go.

I just got off a 16 day Norwegian cruise so the unlimited package for me would've been $119 X 16 = $1904. The entire cruise only cost me $1100 including all taxes, port fees and service charges. I'd have to be nuts to pay 70% more than my entire cruise cost just to drink. I didn't even want to pay just the $20 a day tip. That's still $320 USD = $425 Canadian just to drink. No thanks. I was already eating more than enough calaries. I didn't need to drink another 2000 to 3000 calories a day on top of that. That's more calories than I should be eating in a day.

We're thinking about doing the NCL Bliss to Alaska next but only having Pepsi may kill it for us. Diet Dr Pepper all the way. I was thrilled to be able to get it on Royal Caribbean. They've spoiled me for other cruise lines.

Brittney Honeycutt yeah we were disappointed in that! I read somewhere that is has to do with the deal NCL made with Belize. They have to hire locals and sell local products on the island.

hi Jason and Lisa have you thought about or been on any of the TUI ships they are a British company they were first known as Thomson cruises and Thomson holidays and they do all inclusive land based holidays and they also do all inclusive on all of their ships and you dont have to book any drinks packages as they are included in one price as they already add it in the cost of cruise and they serve international and local brands

Im a tequila drinker. Most of the tequilas fall on the list. Except my Don Julio 1942. The ultimate bev pkg covers up to $15.00 of that brand you just pay the overage. They let you know its not on the pkg when you order so you're prepared for the charge but only about $5 or so over so definitely worth it!!

Dr. Pepper is an independent company so it is manufactured by both Coke and Pepsi. I worked for Coke for a few years. In my state up North Coke made it, down south Pepsi made.

Great video on the drink package! I recently booked with NCL and got the drink package. After I booked, I thought it might be nice to get the specialty restaurant and excursion credit that is an option. How difficult is it to have these included. These were optional for the cabin that we booked. We aren't sailing until September 2020...Alaska with Bliss.

Okay, so this is the first video that has made sense to me. So THANKS a lot. So, I can pretty much get any alcohol I want (within reason of that list) for the gratuity charge of $19.80 a day. Simples. What I don't understand, which you may be able to help with, if I don't really drink alcohol is it worth it? What I have trouble understanding is what things look like if you don't have it? Do you literally get charged for every soda? It sounds like it may still be worth it if I mix in a cocktail a day - which I don't overly mind - and then soda's which I guess are $3-4? Are drinks at meals considered different or under this as well. Note I'd also have it for £99 for 7 days with Free at Sea.

Unless you drink A LOT, a drink package is a waste of money. I was just on an NCL cruise a couple weeks ago and got the drink package as one of my free bonuses. Well, my free package ended up costing me over $200 because I still had to pay the gratuities. I didn't drink anywhere near $200 on the trip. The drink packages are there for the cruise line to make money. Before you buy one, think about how much you actually drink. A drink on a ship will cost you between 8 and 10 bucks. Soda is less. It may very well be cheaper for you to just charge it as you go. They sound like a great option, but they're really not.

There really is no difference. It used to be called ultimate and they changed the name to unlimited but didn't retro to existing bookings.

Dougie Sakurai you pay for it at reservation for the whole cruise. So 7 days is around $140.
