'what other songs in this style are there that i should react to?' - the rest of their discography :)

Yeah, pretty much only NeO has done such a dedicated effort to extreme prog metal with a violin. Or at least I don't know of anyone else.
@paradisefound4123 жыл бұрын
@@Growlizing Check out Dominia for more prog metal featuring violin.
@chrismacandrew96922 жыл бұрын
Late to the party here, but Persefone are also a great prog metal band.
@Christian-vq8rd4 жыл бұрын
Singer and screamer- perhaps the biggest distinctive of NeO is the contrast between the "angelic" Tim Charles and the "demonic" Xen (Marc Campbell). Most of their songs interweave dark, black metal inspired themes with beautiful classical lines- a classic black and white contrast band.

So glad you did this. This song is phenomenal. Its taught at the Sydney Conservatorium of music because its a masterpiece
@danntheman8654 жыл бұрын
Im shocked no one has mentioned Wintersun, especially since they toured with neo obliv towards the end of last year. They both have very similar approaches to music. Listen to anything live at sonic pump, you wont regret it.

Having seen them twice, I can vouch they sound this awesome live.

Caligula's Horse mate, you gotta dive into the aussie prog metal scene with these guys. You gotta go for Graves, another compositional masterpiece.
@Faffx4 жыл бұрын
you could check out ebonivory for more aussie prog, and plini if you're down for some instrumentals

I know I'm a bit late to this but yes very please. Graves is an all time favorite. ^^
@peterkarargiris41104 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this band take 'beauty & the beast' vocals to a whole new level, or in this case 'good angel, evil angel' vocals. I reiterate everything I said about them in my last comment, they are awesome !

I enjoyed your review of Neo. For another Melbourne Metal Band have a look at "The Smoke of Many Fires" official lyric video by Be'lakor.

Painters of the tempest is another great one from Neo
@digitalspecter4 жыл бұрын
Another great Aussie band is Be'lakor. They have pretty much climbed to the top place for me during the last couple of years. It's a shame they don't have many music videos on KZbin. Anyway it'd be great to hear your take on their songs like "A Natural Apostasy" or "From Scythe to Sceptre"
@felix562914 жыл бұрын
I recommend Painters of the tempest or Devour me, Colossus

Try Be'lakor. They're also from Melbourne. I think they have a similar feel to Ne'O.

If you want to hear some really out there Prog may I suggest the live performance of Celestial Elixir by Haken. There’s heavy parts, beautiful parts, and they even break into what can best be described as circus music. It’s nuts.

You need to do a lot more opeth if the only song you know is "when the curtain falls" cause that's their only song I've never heard:) Also some other bands Dream Theater, Haken, Leprous, Enslaved, Periphery, Jinjer.

Great vid man! If you haven't heard of Jon bellion you should react to him he's very talented and not that well known if you do react to him I'd recommend listening to the song "Blu" 1st to really see what he's about.

People who like Ne Obliviscaris should check out the band Vintersea. Their music is also progressive extreme metal, but with a female vocalist (her growls are VERY impressive) and the music isn't quite as technical as Ne Obliviscaris. I would recommend the songs Old Ones or Befallen from their latest album. Xen from Ne Obliviscaris actually designed the album cover for their latest album.

Since you are a bass player I think you would enjoy checking out some Mudvayne. Their bass player is insane. Something like the song Death Blooms, but anything off of the album LD50 would be a good showcase. Just make sure it is not a censored version.

Check out some Deafheaven. Progressive black metal/shoegaze. Canary Yellow or Honeycomb (the Audiotree Far Out version is amazing even if the bass is too loud!) are good places to start.

you should react to painters of the tempest part 2 triptych lux, it's their longest song but also by far my favorite song ever (it was also the first song I've heard by them but that doesn't really contribute to why it's my favorite) it's just the biggest ride of a song you can ever experience

In this style you should be giving Opeth a proper go (the live Ghost of Perdition at Red Rocks, Colorado (20) OPETH - Ghost of Perdition (LIVE AT RED ROCKS AMPHITHEATRE) - KZbin is amazing) However, not in this style....I think you'll appreciate the bass in Necrophagist - Stabwound. Or in Beyond Creation - Coexistence. But seriously, more Opeth!!! Their bassist Martin Mendez is awesome
