I had high hopes for the Neato D8. Its D-shaped design and wide brush roll are excellent design elements that make this robot intriguing.
But this robot disappointed me with its sub-par navigation, which is its biggest flaw.

One thing Neato seems to have, is build quality. I bought my D85 used, and had to bring it out of the closet because of my Deebot 930 wheel died. It has been falling to pieces part by part. The first one i bought was also broken on arrival. Used offcourse, like all my bots. But it says something about Deebots. While D85 is still going strong with no issues, and it was released in 2015.

D8 - firmware 1.7.0-2933/app ver 1.5 ---The map works perfectly. The robot will not get stuck and will find its way back to the charging base. The only problem is the side brush. Only works on hard floors. It turns off on carpet, but does not turn on again when leaving it

Neatos are good if you like playing Hide-and-Seek with your robot. Mine stops or gets stuck under the middle of our king bed, in a corner of the bathroom, in the kitchen, in living room. Pretty much every room.

Absolutely correct, the navigation is terrible. I bought mine yesterday and it never goes in a straight line. It’s like it’s drunk or something. But one good thing is their customer service support.

I had a D5 several years ago. It worked well until it started not completing passes throughout the house. Then it just wouldn't run beyond backing out of the charging station.

Just bought this model. Does it need to load 24/7 or can u just load it until fully Charged and then turn it off until ur to use it?

i have the neato d8 its lidar navagation is so bad and i will answer why neato is not having self empty bin because the charging contacts are on the back. i did not like the d8 so i went with the roborock s7 so good

If they really wanted to make an auto-empty version, there will be a workaround or they'll move the charging pins.

Beato might not have impressive specs or a lot o features but damn, this thing really tries to be a legit vacuum cleaner in the first place. And it is compared to other fancy brands that can't pick up so much dust!

Just ran my D9 for the first time. This is to compliment an Eufy C30 (random nav) that I run every 2-3 days. I run in max power and amazed at what it picks up since it is only my wife and I. Also we take off our shoes in the foyer when coming into the house. I really like the slim height that can get under most furniture. My biggest complaint is that it misses a lot of fir needles that gets tracked in. So setting up the D9 it performed an automatic software update after WiFi connectivity established. I left it in it’s dock over night. This morning ran it in Eco mode to establish it’s first map. It took 1 hr 55 min, 522 sq ft, with 56% of the battery left. It did have some issues with our couch skirt that it got under as well as some corners. But in every case it resolved them itself. After it completed the app asked if I wanted to setup no zones and room zones. I liked the boxes that surrounds the No zone and will see how they work next time. I did not check the noise level but it was not intrusive. One consideration for the D9 over the 8 was the mesh screen over the filter. I think that is a must or the filter will get clogged quickly. Friends say we keep a clean house but when I went to empty the D9 bin my thought is that it manufactures the debris, the bin was full and most of all it got the fir needles. It actually did a great job in creating a map (den, foyer, guest room, hall, kitchen, dining and living room) as well. So all in all happy with the D9 purchase.

Just bought a Neato D8. I was confused about what to do once I took the vac out of the box, most specifically the images on the bottom of the D8, pointing to the orange piece on the roller. There were no instructions in the user manual either.

Return the device. The company is going out of business. So the app will no longer work.

I’ll continue to stick with my Deebot 901 which I’ve had for several years. Neato is dying on the vine with no new innovation.

What i like about the Neato is that it will vaccuum in straight lines compare to the roomba, which goes all over the place (zig zag lines).

They use to be really good, but support and quality seems gone way down. I bought D8 it was defective they wanted me to clean it and mail it back to them for repairs. I did as they ask and got the bot vac still broken!!! So now asking me to mail it back again!!! While they providing the shipping its bit absurd to be waiting 3 weeks at a time. Compare it to a competitor IHOME they mailed me a bot and told me to do whatever with the bad one :O.
