Clean the sensor and it will resume the GREEN working mode. When RED like that it is often an indicator the sensor is blocked and it can't tell if it is close to an actual edge or not. I found surfaces which were mostly carpeted or mixed carpet'rugs and hardwood floors, it would clog/obscure the sensor which when cleaned would resume its normal cleaning job. Plus you're using 2x4's as your room outline. The 3.25" height of the 2x4 is just below the limit of the Lidar scan range so it can't map the room properly. The best reviewers maps room dividers using 2x6's and it mapped them perfectly. But all who cheaped out and used 2x4 it couldn't map it properly.

Hi all, I think the N8 was not working properly because the barrier was too low for the LIDAR and I guess he was working only by the contact and lateral sensors instead of using its 3D sensor. I’m a N8 owner and I faced the same issue in some zones at home; for sure the algorithm must to be reviewed since the robot works in a random sequence.

Mine (older version) behaves like that when it gets lost, for too much legos leftover on the ground or whatever… To me, your unit is registering its boundaries outside the white borders with its laser, and bumping on them at the same time, confusing it like crazy. Hallo! Don't You think that Neato have laser sensor higher than bar made by You? Neato see space over bar and think that there is extra space, but on other hand push sensor should recognize it. I have D7 and I am satisfied. Only problem i have is place where cabinet is hanged and it is over laser sensor but below casing of laser so it always try to enter under cabinet. Anyway it clean house so so good - especially that I have two Golden Retriever Dogs and all ground floor carpet type of floor. Every time bin is full. Even I clean all by standard vacyme cleaner Philips Performer Pro 2000W with turbo brush - it is very strong vacyme. Neato always get full bin. It is amazing. I am fully satisfied.

Had a Neato D4. I wanted to like it but it ruined a map for no reason by rotating it 45 degrees, then failed to operate completely with a "wheels suspended" error, even though it was on level ground, that made it unusable. Returned it and eventually got a Roborock S6 and Roborock E20. Never been disappointed in either. Hopefully your Neato is just a dud and they'll send you a replacement.
@grabberfox_5.03 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but this new neato is a complete failure and a complete ripoff. First of all it is definitely the exact same robot as the D7. I can't see any differences other than the looks and the new app. I used to have a D7. It has the same suction motor and same navigation, but only clearly much more flawed navigation. I am fully convinced this is the exact same vacuum as the D7 etc. but with more issues. Thank you for reviewing. I have heard nothing but bad things about this bot. I will definitely be staying away from this one. That's why I love your videos. You are completely honest with these.
@MR_Garage3 жыл бұрын
Just adding, it has zero similarity internally than the D7. Totally different hardware down to the lidar, main board and even side brush motor. Totally different app and software platform. They clearly have some bugs to work out of the new platform. My d8 is doing OK but not great. Just waiting for the next update.
@MrBlueCreeper3 жыл бұрын
@@MR_Garage Neato has become a ghost town. They are not always active and don't usually promise regular updates. The D7 was released in 2017, and it took them 3-4 years for Neato to make a crappy product. I'm really disappointed in Neato, especially when they were the first to offer LiDAR back then. You're better off with a Roborock because they always update like every month and are always active, making new products. Roborock launches at least 3 new products a year, whereas Roomba and Shark take 1 year, and Neato takes an abysmal 4 years to launch a new product. If you check Roborock's Facebook and Twitter, they are always active there. So yeah, it's too bad that Neato can't beat Chinese knock-offs. I would go with the Eufy 25c over this D8 anytime.

Or maybe even a 1 hour ‘robot vacuum cleaner sound’ to help people fall asleep. Just don’t use the D8 or the Shark IQ, because it takes more than 30 secs. to fall sleep. Either a defect or The Lidar is mounted high on this bot. The 2×4 you are using for baseboards/walls are not as tall, it picks up the paneling behind the 2x4s on some side of the room, but other sides are open, which could be affecting navigation? The replacement unit should tell you; the good thing is Neato has excellent support, which is overlooked with these robots. Most important to me is the app, support their hardware. The software seems to be the biggest challenge with these things; apple level support is the difference. If I were starting a robot company, customer success would be my #1 investment. The Chinese companies DO NOT get that at all.

if the vacuums can effectively manage where to go, the robot can have many advantages compared to random navigation robots like no go zones, knowing when it has done cleaning and knowing where it has already cleaned which is particularly useful for big homes. I've owned several Neato vacuums dating back to when they first came out. This d8 vacuum is the worst one they ever built. You are better off buying an older one. The replacement batteries art insanely priced. And if you need a new charging station, forget it you're better off buying a new vacuum. The vacuum does not work with any of the older charging stations that you can buy for $19 on eBay or any of the batteries for the older versions that are less than $15 on eBay. This thing cannot work if you don't have internet access. So if the internet goes out you will not be able to clean your house. This is a very new vacuum and it is already a useless paperweight. It does not turn on, it does not charge and it isn't certainly not worth buying a new battery or charging station just to find out the the main board maybe dead. You can't even sell it for parts because none of the parts work with any of the other vacuums from Neto.

The Neato D8 doesn't make If-Then statements and gets stuck in the most awkward places for no reason. If you return this... then that's Red flags for 3 out of the 4 Major US Robot Vacuum companies! The only Robot Vacuum company that is good in the US is iRobot. Shark, Bissell, and Neato will have at least one product with a red flag. So that's why I more trust those major Chinese Robot Vacuum companies. They somehow don't bring as many red flags as US Companies do.
