I've searched for a cover of this song off and on for many years and now you bless us with this. This is the first tech death song I ever heard, it's very sentimental to me.
@KevinHeiderich2 жыл бұрын
Same here! A nostalgic tech death song for me and I was also always bummed about the lack of good covers and tab. Hell, there's not a single live video of that song, but I do think they played it at one time (think I saw a setlist somewhere with that song, but I could be wrong).
@janiron18992 жыл бұрын
My goodness, to nail that solo in its "normal" speed is already bananas, but to pull it off this clean, while also playing it faster, is truly something else. This is just astonishing, respect.

@KevinHeiderich2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the sound was actually the reason it took me so long to get this video out. I already recorded this over a week ago haha. I thought my recording tone was good enough with only minor tweaking necessary for the mix, but of course, I was wrong lol. Took me a lot of reamping to be satisfied with something and I wanted to come close to the original guitar tone, because that one is legendary for me :) Well, I still have that cover of Scorched on my channel ;-) Other than that, Eve of Contempt was always a song I wanted to record, but it's not really a priority for me right now. Next up are two classical pieces, actually one is from the baroque era and the other one from the romantic era. And another Gorod song, but for a technique demonstration and potential tutorial, because that song taught me that specific technique!

Well, that description was necessary. I actually would've needed another one for all the stuff I wanted to list from the tab. All the stuff that might be different from the record and all my thoughts about it. Because you might play from the tab and notice something sounding slightly different. But there's probably a reason why I tabbed it that way. Though all the single note stuff should be pretty accurate. It's just some of the palm muted chords where I couldn't decide 100% and the time signatures of the solo that still need fixing :)

My man looking like Joe Rogan lol! On a real note, thanks for your hard work and dedication, and of course for sharing with us! I first picked up guitar after listening to Necrophagist for the first time over 10 years ago and used to feel it was impossible to play their music without years and years of experience. Even experienced players could have trouble with this style of playing. Imagine my thoughts when I started seeing your covers not only spot on, note for note, but even sped up! Sheer ridiculousness, but a fantastic display of your hard work. I still play guitar off and on and periodically view your content for inspiration. I hope you are well and healthy and if dreams come true I would love to hear some original content! I remember a solo of your own and it was awesome, sounded unique and like the work of a mad scientist haha. Thanks again for sharing your work and being a source of inspiration for myself and others
@KevinHeiderich2 жыл бұрын
Well, as long as you don't compare my opinions to Joe Rogans, everything is fine haha Hehe thanks, btw I am glad I didn't listen to Necrophagist yet when I started with the guitar. I see way too many guitarists these days trying to play those tech death songs way too soon. Build your regular metal chops first before starting with tech death. I mean, it's called technical for a reason. It builds upon the foundations of death metal, and that itself on the foundations of metal. So that should be the roadmap. Also on another note, I've noticed that tech death lost it's kind of forward thinking attitude, as well as the progressive component. If you listen to Blotted Science or Spawn Of Possession, they are not just hard to play. They also have a progressive structure and play with rhythms and odd time signatures. Nowadays tech death is just regular metal with a few flashy parts in it. (First Fragment is an exception of course!)
@UndeadBed2 жыл бұрын
@@KevinHeiderich Couldn't agree more about building chops before attempting tech death, my problem was I'd only listen to tech death and had this elitist attitude that all other forms of music was inferior. I've since grown out of that mindset thankfully haha. Nowadays I like to try to learn some parts by ear and practice basic triads and their inversions to familiarize myself with the fretboard, trying to undo years of tab reliance... I also agree with the lack of progression in tech death, prime example for me is many bands on Artisan Era; to be clear I think many of those bands are talented and indeed play technically difficult music, but they seem boring or lack brutality that I got from Spawn of Possession, Beneath the Massacre, Origin, etc (definitely don't mean ALL of their bands, I personally like Dark Matter Secret and Aethereus). Maybe I'm just getting old and don't know where to look haha

@KevinHeiderich2 жыл бұрын
This was a bit backwards. Most of the time the final take is one of the last ones I recorded. Here it was the other way around. I think I played through the song twice in front of the camera without actually recording and this was the first take with the camera running. I still spent an hour more trying to get a smoother one but was not really successful haha. If you're wondering why I have some practice runs in front of the camera without recording them: I always do that because I usually play in a different position than my recording position, and those camera "practice" runs really make a difference and it also saves some battery, because the first playthroughs usually suck anyway :D

Unfortunately there is no really good cover of this song on youtube. Only you could handle it. But i wish it was regularly with all parts.
@pieflies2 жыл бұрын
I’m curious as to what it is that you want to get out of watching a person cover a song? If you just want to listen to the regular song you could listen to the actual album. If you want something that assists in learning the song I think this is great regardless of tempo. If you want to see someone else’s interpretation of a song, personalised in some way to their own style of playing, then this is exactly that.
@KevinHeiderich2 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry! Though I do play through all the parts on regular tempo once because the second half of the song is basically just the first half repeated, so there are no new parts in the faster half. I already covered the solo years ago which is still on my channel, and that's why I decided to do it this way, starting at the solo section. To be honest, some of the early Necrophagist songwriting is a bit drawn out and this makes playing through it a bit more interesting for me. Also, according to the KZbin analytics, most people only watch half a song and/or the solo most of the time, so this might engage them more, and if not then nothings lost anyway (current average of this song is just 2:17 minutes). I think it's a good compromise, you get the regular half and another half which bumps up the technique, since it's technical death metal after all. A lot of my viewers are interested in demonstrations of advanced techniques and this definitely features some of them. Anyway, I do understand your issue with it, and it's something I'm always thinking about when I prepare a song for KZbin. On one hand I also like pure playthroughs and videos, with no fluff or distractions, on the other hand, it can be quite boring, depending on the song. My KZbin channel was always more of a "songs that challenge me" kind of thing and not a "new cover every week". The footage was actually meant for auditions because that's what I wanted to do, play for bands. That's how I usually select songs, based on difficulty and to show "hey, that's what I can do, in case you want me to play in your band". I did record some "regular" songs that were just fun to play, but I don't really see the point in me doing that constantly here on KZbin. And the last reason: I wanted to finish the tab and I only recorded a video to share the tab here :)

WHY fast up the solo?
@-ritual-5939 Жыл бұрын
it's very easy to play over the original song, because mistakes and bad execution are not noticed. There are several notes that are taping and you don't play them, because the original backing music plays and makes your cover sound decent. I recorded a cover without music behind, maybe that would be a good job. bye
