I too worked in a jail for 2.5 years and gave it up for the same reason as this officer, I always showed respect to the Inmates and never tried to cross any lines professionally and when I left several Inmates expressed how sad it was I was leaving. But my Philosophy was "despite the crime they're all humans and deserve respect"
@Arminsaf23 жыл бұрын
Most CO’s were pretty cool that I was around. They knew the program. Occasionally you’d get the few that ran a tighter program and were kinda dicks but weren’t that bad. But I did run into one who really didn’t get that he was pissing people plot to a different degree. Most CO’s were chill unlike the majority of cops I’ve been around.
@tazzhardwick13163 жыл бұрын
Same here man I worked in it for 3 years and on occasion I will run into an inmate on the street and it's all respect because I never did them dirty.

I’m curious would you show rapist and child molesters respect? I know I can never show these type of prisoners respect as a father myself I’m curious to hear your response
@sylviasylvia85513 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to say...that I do not agree with respecting a person who has 'messed with' on any level and child (female or male). What respect?? Respect for raping, killing an innocent child? How is that okay? How does that become part of a sentence when the word 'RESPECT' is in it???? Wrong-way of thinking...that is why many do what they do...because people look at it differently (and they will serve some kind of sentence and not be executed by the system). I guess it is very different when it is your 'daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother or mother'...the thinking flips!!!!

Thats the truth I was a CO and the inmates respected me. I didn't sugar coat things I was honest with them hell the couldn't wait till I came to work. I encouraged may of them to do better the main thing I did was to make them think outside of what they were doing. I didn't pass judgment on them either that wasn't my job you're a man and I'm a man lets respect each other while I'm here and it worked. Plus I didn't get in there business either unless it called for me to do my job. One thing CO'S don't understand you will see most of these ppl in public so beware of what you do to them.

I seen three type of inmates: first" the rehabber", one who's trying to learn a skill in hope of a brighter future, second," the mind my own business inmate" who wants to enjoy tv or whatever activity of prison enjoyment thats present, this dude whats to chill out but will fight to protect his own or his homies, third is the worst, "the opportunist or the predator," the one who take advantage of whoever they can, be it staff or another inmate or inmates for self gratification no matter whats the consequence. The opportunist is the sneak thief, booty bandit or sex attacker, gang banger, extortionist, lying manipulator, womanizer, thug, drug dealer, con artist, etc., whatever carnal pleasure they can get, they go after it. Thirty years of work, I found most inmates do their time the right way, but some inmates are straight up bad. Black communities and Black people must realize that some Black folks in our communities are enemies of the Black race, far worst than the KKK. We have to distinguish between the two and not just accept all incarcerated Blacks as law abiding citizens. Now New York prison stories, I could write for days, I have better stories than this video.

Thanks for this video and interview from a C.O. perspective. Former Lafayette Parish Deputy. I was told that I was too friendly with the inmates. Respect goes both ways. And the local jail is full of the same people you will see up close in the streets. I didn’t have the rank but the inmates called me Sarge.

This sit down & kicking it was the realist talk not only just about jailing, but life that I've had the pleasure to listen to.Thank you brah Peace!

The last 3 min was absolute gold. This brotha gets it. It’s deep and he just glossed over it but this is something a lot of brothas/sistas deal with working at jobs where they are a minority. We are already at a disadvantage in society, look out for your own as much as you can without putting yourself into jeopardy.
